to comment on any of the above works or perhaps present your own for discussion. Mr Green mention Bosch's 'Garden of Earthly Delights' in another thread, and Michelangelo's 'David' got our blood pumping too. Does anyone have any other favourites they'd like to share?

My first art teacher was incredible... she was actually the first woman I ever had a crush on. Tall, long (and I mean very long) dark hair, gorgeous face, incredible legs and strong soft hands. Also she used to wear cotton body suits and a flip skirt that sometimes didn't cover her properly when she bent over or squatted to pick something up. I loved art class, and not just for the art. As a guy just on the cusp of starting puberty I lost a LOT of sleep over her. My second art teacher was a cow... suffice I try never to think of her because she ruined my appreciation of art for a few years for a few reasons. The last art teacher I had at school was incredible... he changed the way most of the kids in my school looked at art by making it fun, relate-able and instilling in some the ability to see things through others eyes so as to not judge but to see things for what the artist intended. This helped immensely when walking the 'Sculpture by the Sea' Exhibition that runs annually on the walk from Bronte to Bondi... my co-worker asked me along and I spent most of the time explaining to her how some of the art work could be interpreted (even gained a few tag along's as they were interested in the concept of "beach side microcosms" and "reflections of a man's best friend"). Got a giggle when I Google'd the Willendorf Woman (Venus of Willendorf) above and in the images gallery there was a Playboy magazine cover that someone had made which just goes to show one of the great aspects of art appreciation... the imitation and alteration with respect and interest to produce something new from something old that will generate interest by others. I love art even though am not good at it... gets you thinking and can stir the soul. The Louvre is on the bucket list. . . but will have to start with the MCA and work on up from there. SG

Did you know that it was hung in the same Salon exhibition as Manet's 'Olympia'? What a contrast! I used to use both works in a comparative study on sexuality with my students.

I will always have fond memories of Ms Gerber, my art teacher from year 8 to year 11. I was much more into sculpture than paintings though. But I was very impressed with how she handled the teenage boys when we had to study nudes and had to draw one in the final exam.

I'm not sure if I'm turned on by his paintings or disturbed by them ... but I guess that's the idea.

Our French teacher at school used to handle some of the teenage boys... was quite a scandal in such a small town... especially when her husband found out and didn't care. SG
