AFL game in Sydney

June 30 2018

We are planning to go to an AFL game in Sydney. Relax Melbourne's, we would go to a game there, too, but we aren't there on a Saturday and there aren't any Thursday games that week, either. We checked. In Sydney, do we need to buy tickets early to get in or can we wait until a few days before or even the day of the game to buy our tickets? TIA for the guidance. - Posted from rhpmobile

On who's playing. To be safe, buy well before to get good seats. Best would be 1st or 2nd tier on the wing(center)

I went to the Collingwood v. Swans match last year that was a total sell out way prior to the game.

If the Dockers are on the card, the only time they play four good quarters in a row is in two separate games.

21 July at SCG. Will this game sell out? And I was expecting the "go see rugby instead" response. We will try to see a rugby match while there, too. - Posted from rhpmobile

Yeah, better to see Aussie Rules I think. It's not like they play it anywhere else in the world. You might want to brush up on the basics of the game beforehand...it does looks a little confusing.

But stranger things have happened. Suns are a newer Qld team so not a huge interstate supporter base. Swans have a fair size supporter base and doing ok so far this year but l wouldn't think it would be a sellout.

No chance it's a sellout with Gold Coast Suns, so no issue with tix. Just depends where you were looking to sit. Certain sections might be sold out. - Posted from rhpmobile

Rugby League has been simplified to the point of boredom, five tackles and an obligatory kick. Union has rucks, mauls, scrums, lineouts and tactics. Sounds complicated and I guess it is, incidentally the USA was the last country to win an Olympic Gold Medal for Rugby,up until the seven a side at Rio.

Thanks for the clarification, everyone. We hope to see both sports live while we are there. We are big sports fans here and enjoy attending events. - Posted from rhpmobile

I guess you won't have much trouble understanding League. You've got Buckley's chance of understanding AFL, it's even more complicated than Rugby Union 😋 LOL RHP'ers, did you see what I did there😇

I will go online to watch some videos/highlights to try to help me understand the AFL. Any particularly good resources anyone can share? Also, we are mostly there to drink beer and enjoy the atmosphere, so fully understanding isnt a requirement. - Posted from rhpmobile

I tried to buy tickets via the Swans' website. It says I need a membership number. Any idea what that's about? - Posted from rhpmobile
