I absolutely love Asian food . I went over to Thailand , Laos & Cambodia a couple of years ago & only ate Street Food . I consider myself a good cook , having spent many years working in restaurants & Asian is my preferred style . I cook Asian style food at least 3 times a week . I buy many cookbooks so my repertoire is only getting larger . I wouldn't want to choose what is the better food , it's all good . South East Asian food particularly suits me because it is more appropriate for the climate I live in. I could go on & on , extolling the virtues of Asian Cuisine , don't get me started ;) GG♒- Posted from rhpmobile

Love the freshness of Thai and Vietnamese, especially the basil/coriander/mint based dishes.Rice paper roles are a winner in this house the kids just love them and they are healthy. Nori rolls are a close second. And getting the kids to make their own is fun, everyone gets a laugh.Sorry not a fan of dumplings, it's just too stodgy for me, and Chinese cuisine in general is not a fave, it's something about the texture, I'm sure there are dishes I would like but I just find Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Singaporean more appealing.

I love and adore any anything that is Asian inspired.I am pretty fortunate, I work within one of Brisbane's largest Asian communities.Every time I visit the local shopping center I buy these home made steamed dim sims. They are to die for!!I buy all my Asian spices, sauces, noodles etc from there as well. The best Nasi Goreng I have ever had was in this little cafe just outside Phuket.. :)I actually attended Asian cooking school when I was in Bangkok - That was fun!!My home is also decorated with a lot of Asian Pieces, ranging from furniture, hanging lanterns in my out door area, statues, framed pictures etc etc.Not that long ago I had a friend cook me this Asian noodle soup (can't remember the name?).Was full of so many fresh indigents and the broth was cooked from scratch and took all day to make. Was one of the nicest meals I have ever had cooked for me. :)Foxy

Vietnamese food rules,A hot bowl of pho (pronounced 'fer') steaming, dark, eerie and mysterious, with rice noodles, beef, and spices that might have been designed by the magicians of Hogwarts. Pho cures everything, cheers the sad, warms the cold, stiiffens those parts that need stiffening..Or the meal I was shouted by a client in John St Cabramatta one night, including salads with 6 or 7 different types of mint, a daube of beef cooked long and slow and artfully perfumed with star anise, and a number of other courses. The exuberance of Asia coupled with the art of the French occupation (where else did the baguettes come from?).

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on Asian cuisine. I am always touched to learn that Asian food are greatly liked and appreciated by non-Asian race :-) I basically LOVE eating and enjoy most types of cuisines (Asian and non-Asian). Therefore, I started learning how to cook since I was a teenager. Nowadays cooking is one of my methods for making a living. 😊 Foxy, the noodle soup you had could be Pho (beef noodle soup, like what MisterGreen has guessed), but it might also be Bun Rieu (shrimp & tomato paste noodle soup), or Ban Canh Cua (crab meat noodle soup) which both require a long cooking time. Hmmmmm.......cooking and eating, don't get me started lol- Posted from rhpmobile

Both my parents are Chinese. I was born in Vietnam but raised in multicultural Australia. Guess I got the best of all worlds. But to answer Sweetgem's questions, 1) Which types of Asian cuisine have you tried and liked most? Have tried Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai. Would never touch Indian though, but I have had Indian... just not their food. Oops, got a little sidetracked I like Thai foods for their spiciness - I love anything spicy. Red hot raw Birds eye chilli in anything for me. I like Japanese too, anything with sashimi. But Vietnamese food will always remain my favourite and it's healthier (and tastier). 2) How often do you consume Asian food? Weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly? We have rice everyday. Always served with one meat dish and one vegetable dish - stir fried, in soup or steamed. That's very typical Chinese. But occassionally we have a special Vietnamese dish made - pho, other noodle soups, broken rice, fried rice, spring rolls, cold rolls. The list is endless. Home-made is so much nicer as you can add your own ingredients to your taste. Oh and I make a mean roast pork belly - juicy, succulent with an even layer of mouth-watering crackling 3) Surely some (if not most) of you have had the different kind of dumplings before (ones you get at yum cha and those you eat at Ding Tai Fong in Sydney), which type do you like better? I like any seafood ones. Most popular are Har Gow and Siu Mai. Prefer the steamed dishes over the deep fried ones. 4) Have you tried the Vietnamese rice paper rolls before? (This food is becoming popular and well known among the non-Asian consumers these days). Yes and one of my favourites. Love it especially with cooked prawns. 5) For those who have tried both the dumplings and Vietnamese rice paper rolls, which one of these two delicacies do you prefer most? Dumplings are more of a special occassion food but I could have Vietnamese cold rolls everyday!

Love the shrimp paste (Mam Ruoc), but I don't know that many non-Asians like the smell or taste of it lol My most favourite noodle soup is Bun Nuoc Leo (better known as Bun Mam Soc Trang). Whenever my sister cooks a pot, I'd have it for every meal and I can have it for days and not get sick of it lol

Food that isHaving worked and lived in Indo, Vietnam, Laos and spending a lot of time in Thai they all have their own take an many popular dishes and the taste chances from province to province, but by far the best food is on the street or in the little Warungs or villages. The best hangover cure ever found is Khao Tom (thai) or Laotain (laos) rice soup in the morning mmm yummmoooooo and defiantly clears the head and gets the blood flowing again. As for consuming Asian food usually every day of the week either I make a big pot of Rendang, a curry, or rice dish on the weekend and that's my meals for the week or do a quick and easy Mi Goreng or Kai phat for something different,I picked up some good cooking tips when I was O/S

I'm a foodie and have the most amazing kitchen, built to my exact specifications 4 years ago. I doubled it in size and lost my dining room. So we just eat in the kitchen. My favourite place in the house! Vietnamese is my favourite due to its subtleties, Japanese a close second, then give me anything hot after that. Does anyone need some chilli's? I've got 6 plants going gangbusters and I've run out of victims. I'd say I'd eat Asian style dishes 3 times a week, Moroccan another favoured cuisine followed by Lebanese (I worked with a Lebanese lady for 4 years and she trained me up, it's all about the lemon juice) Now you've made me hungry.

Balinese street food....when in Bali I always eat with the locals.... or buy from a cart ,for me that is fine dining...the chatter, the sharing and the smell of fish and duck and chicken and chilli and lemongrass and goodness know what else....the smokiness....kretek cigarettes, gasoline all combine into an amazing overwhelming cocktail of Bali...the REAL Bali not the ghastliness of Kuta....yes I am definitely a food snob Sweetgem.

Chinese bbq pork, those sesame seed dumplings with plum paste, green tea and fortune cookies. And some ingredients for the Steamboat stock, for one of the most social types of meal we have had. Mado

Yes and no to your question about my ethnic background. I am lucky to be a genuine mix with only half Vietnamese blood :-) but I love eating and fond of eating most Asian food + Italian, so I know my food well enough for me to talk about them. 😎- Posted from rhpmobile

Is the best and most authentic flavour you can get. Like all posters, I love eating street food too when I travel to other countries. It's the best food you can get and doesn't cost a fortune! I always look so sad whenever I get taken out to dine at a proper sit down restaurant in overseas. 😏 However, I tend to get a bit picky in what I eat when I'm staying put at home (in Australia that is), and enjoy fine dining here because I am in the right environment for it. Therefore, I need to strive extra hard to make a luxury living lol.- Posted from rhpmobile

Sweetgem - If I replied freely I would completely go off tangent so I'm working on your questions here:1) Which types of Asian cuisine have you tried and liked most? I've tried Japanese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, and Chinese. Chinese is a bit different as you've got slightly different cuisines for different regions; Northern China is more known for their wheat products (noodles, dumplings, etc), while Southern China is warmer and so rice products (congee, etc) are more popular. Cantonese food is very plentiful as Hong Kong has always been a popular trading port and so they do a lot of banquet-style foods such as yum cha and lots of seafood.I probably mostly eat Japanese food. Nothing better than a plate of fresh salmon sashimi and a bowl of hot sushi rice with a bit of seaweed salad on the side, with a small bowl of miso soup.Although I do LOVE BBQ duck. Love. Love. Love.2) How often do you consume Asian food? Weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly? Couple of times a week, easily.3) Surely some (if not most) of you have had the different kind of dumplings before (ones you get at yum cha and those you eat at Ding Tai Fong in Sydney), which type do you like better? Sometimes I'm in the mood for the Chinese pork & chive dumplings which you can eat a lot of. I find the yum cha dim sum richer in flavour and while I do get cravings for yum cha (I also just love the atmosphere) you find you can't eat too much of the one thing. If you're in Sydney, give New Shanghai a go.4) Have you tried the Vietnamese rice paper rolls before? (This food is becoming popular and well known among the non-Asian consumers these days). I would love to eat them as they're such a healthy and cheap lunch option but unfortunately everywhere I've gone they're pre-made and they all have coriander in it! And I hate coriander with a passion!!5) For those who have tried both the dumplings and Vietnamese rice paper rolls, which one of these two delicacies do you prefer most? Dumplings, without a doubt!
