Breakfasts?

May 13 2013

Over the last two weeks I've had a dear Bakery buddy camping in the spare room while she's between rentals. Thanks to decades of poor public housing policy in WA, finding a rental is like trying to kiss a whale. Like many of us, although she's in pretty good shape, she'd like to loose a few kgs.But here's the catch. She's and awesome cook! Eating well in the evenings has almost become a required culinary ceremony. To be celebrated at length. While she's been here I've put on 3-4 kg!! The new me of last year, has become decidedly a little blobular. I also notice I've lost my breakfast appetite.Breaky is almost a religion for me. If it had a God I'd be tempted to do a little dance to it each day. But I've been waking up with next to no appetite of late. No doubt because of my new evening eating habits. So here's my question. Do you/would you like to loose a few kgs and if so do you wake up wanting a good breakfast? What do I mean by a good breakfast? More than 2 slices of toast and a coffee. At least fruit and cereal. Possibly something cooked. Please comment below.

is usually 250 ml water, tablespoon plain yoghurt,1 tablespoon flaxseed oil, 1 serve of vanilla protein powder and a handful of frozen raspberries all mixed with a little stick mixer. Quick, easy and filling.

Im fine with my physique... Ive never carried much bodyfat.... and I DO enjoy exercise.I eat 6 meals a day so am seemingly always eating and always hungry for the next meal after a few hours.Breakfast is mandatory within 30 minutes of waking, or I begin to feel sick to my stomach.... and usually consists of either protein shake over cereal with fruit..... or a chicken breast, avocado and tortilla bread.DG

I guess you'll just have to find a way to transfer that nightly ritual into a morning ritual. The same level of love for food can be indulged in when you break your fast, without that impact on your routine or health. Nutritionally speaking, one should breakfast like a king, lunch lunch like a prince, and dine like a pauper. This way, your body burns that morning boost rather than storing the bulk of your daily intake into "reserves" ;) whilst you sleep. You can still indulge your camping buddy in her love for an extended evening repast, if if you go degustation, or tapas style. Small courses, light on carbs, high on flavour but preferably low on kilo joules, and you're both happy ;) Also beware the "good food deserves good wine" trap. Alcohol is easy to consume in pleasant company with good food but contains a whole lot of sugar (taking into consideration that the alcohol not self breaks down into sugars as the body processes it). Good luck!

I'm lucky if I get to finish my coffee before lunch. Though when a friend stays over I like to make toasted muffins with smoked salmon, cream cheese and rocket.

...one should breakfast like a king, lunch lunch like a prince, and dine like a pauper.I love that. What a cool idea.Morning is pretty much the favorite part of my day so the idea of some sort of banquet to go with it appeals to me.@sim114 that sounds quite yummy too. I love raspberries..@Ms_D Yum!! I'd come just for the food.. ~laughs~

I love hot cooked buffet breakfast than the continental breakfast (only cereal and toast), because everything is put on the table and so I can have a bit of everything starting from hot to cold food :-) so, a good breakfast to me means I can eat as much as I desire with good mixed of proteins and vitamins to boost my energy level for the day. Of course, it would be ideal/superb if I could have 2 different breakfasts every day 😜

I love breakfasts, especially when shared with good company after a morning walk. However, I find I often get judged by Mr Otori over the amount of food I eat at breakfast. Usually, I don't eat much for lunch and don't snack through the day so I figure, big breaky gives me my energy and carries me through most of the day. He's content with one of those god-awful shakes that claim to help with weight loss or muscle building or some such trollop and a small bowl of cereals. I love the french toast, yoghurt, fruit, tomatoes etc. The tastier the better. A good breakie equals a good start to the day. - Ms Otori

And still a valid one :) Breakfast is where the bulk of your energy should be coming from. Although DG's more-smaller-meals approach is also good (metabolically speaking). And remember, protein is better for you than carbs, and twice as filling ;)

and toast with vegimite though some days I skip as I find if I eat then I start to get hungry, if I dont then i can go till lunch time   but small for dinner   when I travel its terrible, all those pastrythings are my undoing still trying to work of the ten kilo I put on from last tirp , i need to stop driving past my gym and actually GO in there!
