Calm Seas

July 13 2013

About 6 years ago I buried some treasure on an Island in Moreton Bay. Not real treasure of course, simply a small chest filled with pirate things, imitation jewels and trinkets. A friend and I then made a treasure map leading to the exact spot (marked X) with all the usual adaptations and pirate expressions ("hangmans rock", "shipwreck cove" and the like). We My point sealed the map in a bottle with wax (as you do) and cast it adrift. Then we had a lot of wine (or was that before?) and had a lot of sex. For about a year I checked the spot X every now and again to see if the treasure had been found, but it hadn't, so I forgot about it. Last week however, I was out on my boat (the "Amorous Porpoise") and remembered, so I went and checked again. And the treasure had gone! It couldn't possibly have been found without the map and I wonder who found it. I hope it was a family with yong childern who had heaps of fun following the map. I wonder if they were excited, and if the parents played along. but I will never know. And that's OK too. My point is we get so caught up with life, we forget to live. Sometimes we should take a step back and view the World through a child's eyes (if just for a little while).   Obi1 (otherwise known as "Captain No Beard")

The Dutch found Australia without it being on a map, didn't they? = Pirate with two eye patches, a real tough guy.

Perhaps we could organise an adult oriented treasure hunt with a part of a map in RHP & clues along the way.   And the prize would be???

But yes I agree, sometimes it's nice to remember and enjoy childlike moments. I have 4 girlfriends I went to school with, we get together every 4-6yrs and spend a weekend doing girly shite together, going out, harassing and stirring men, eating our favourite things ;) and we always watch "Anne of Green Gables" stop laughing!!! I'm serious, it's OUR special thing. Because bosom friends are always together in spirit. I think we get old when we forget to play and stop laughing at ourselves. When we lose ourselves in work and life's stressors and not in each other and the fun moments we share or create for ourselves. I think today each of us should go and DO ONE THING that you absolutely loved doing when you could. Me, I'm at my cousins place; they're away at Paradise Lagoons Australian Campdrafting Comp and I've already put the horses in the yard. So, I'm saddling up today and going for a ride to the pub, have a beer or three with the local crew, then head out and see what else I can find. I love the smell of horses and leather and going for a gallop today with the wind in my hair and the sun kissing my face seems exactly what I need. Giddy up girl.

I think you had as much fun making the map and filling the treasure chest then hiding it as whoever found it did.   That's thinking outside the box....love it!       SFxx

I'd love to have found it! What an adventure for the kids.   On my daughter's 18th we held an amazing race day. It Started with kidnapping my daughter at my daughters place of work, then they had to find 6 purple balls in the childrens ball pit of 5000 balls, each had a clue in it. each clue had to be solved to go to the next destination. 6 teams of 5 then set off to 7 Hills train station and then to Luna Park. At each destination they had to find clues, check in at the checkpoint, complete an activity or quiz, have a photo taken etc etc. along the way they had to complete a treasure hunt and have photos taken with their team mascot, a garden gnome. this went on for 8 hours across 7 destinations around the city and then back out to the Hills district for a BBQ dinner.   Planning that day took months and the detail was amazing. I remember it as the best fun i had had in years. My daughter and her friends enjoyed it too.

Those stories were great. Thanks so much for sharing! These are the kind of posts I love to read. They put a smile on my face. It's worth waiting through some of the not so nice or interesting posts for this magic that some people do. A little fantasy now and again makes life worth living, especially for adults :) Guitar81

Looking at the comments above, it would seem that the spirit of adventure and imagination is not lost within the RHP community. But then again, if it were the case, there probably wouldn't be a RHP community in the first place!her Great to hear your comments, and awsome to see the "hidden spark" is alive and well !   Obi1
