*** Camera Shy ***

March 14 2014

I am so, not part of the 'selfies' generation. . It's been fun for me to add pics to RHP over the years he 'n' me've been on here, so not so camera shy there. . But I really hate having 'face' pics taken. The photographer calls out, "say cheeese", and we all say, "cheeeeeese" for what seems like an eternity, and then we stay there with a fixed smile on our face for what seems like another eternity... and then they make us go through it all again... just in case. . Am I the only one who hates the whole picture taking drama? . Am I the only one who wants to run when they see photographers setting up camera?? . Or do you love the camera? Maybe it loves you? Do tell... please???

I don't really like shots that are set up (i.e. the 'say cheese' type of shots the op mentions). I have an interest in photography but always prefer taking more natural shots of people just doing what they do naturally and interacting with those around them. Some of the most natural shots are taken when I just 'shoot from the hip', so people don't even realise I'm taking a photo as I don't have the camera up to my face trying to get a perfectly framed shot. Framing can be done whilst editing the photo and you don't annoy people so much that way.

I love having my picture taken but the cheesy staged photos I always feel awkward in. The natural ones do seem to come out better too. I did a photoshoot recently where 550+ photos were taken and my favourite image and the stand-out was the very first photo - taken while the photographer was adjusting lighting and it was me laughing reacting to some very cold water. Selfies are a different matter though - I love taking them as I can control the angles and don't feel so self-conscious about smiling and ending up looking a chipmunk cause I can just hit delete and take another! I can't help but be overly critical in face pics - I never seem to look like they do in magazines dammit! Oh wait, that's because I don't photoshop myself. Buuuuut, I look like what I look like and there's no escaping it! I love family selfies - snuggled up with my boys and feeling happy but otherwise nah, I just pick holes and that's never a happy thing. I used to dabble in portraiture and agree that natural is best. I hate having my photo taken, but I LOVE taking photos myself. I am the unofficial family photographer at all family events (christmas, birthdays, any kind of get-together) and I especially love taking photos of my daughter and all my nieces. But try and take a pic of me, and I just cringe! I am SO not photogenic!

I love being on both sides of the camera. Most of all though I think it's more than the pic itself. Choosing a sexy outfit and a couple of drinks all make it fun. Kristy xx - Posted from rhpmobile

I have a face pic online for once. It's difficult being a dentist.... it's more difficult doing a selfie like mine. Hugs Gazpacho - Posted from rhpmobile

I have done candid photography, mostly weddings, and there are a fair percentage of people who are camera shy so a bit of stealth was required...My trick was to get near my mark but stand with my back to them talking whoever was in the right spot I would guess the distance to the mark set the focus then turn around and take the picture only the most paranoid of camera shy people would be onto me often I caught them totally unawares and got a good shot. I copped a bit of flak but Id point out I was working for their host and hostess and that it was just my job...aah the good old Nuremburg defense Selfies are often not the best as they're taken at arms length and with a wide angle lens, the best portraits are taken with a longer focal length lens, from 85-135 mm for a 35 mm camera...

& I was very uncomfortable too being squeezed into a mate's helmet. Rob (RIP) painted it himself and wore it out out on the bike,\.He told it brought out the worst in people Once he played up to it by getting off the bike and stabbing at a car window at the traffic lights... It got back to him via the net...but that's another story.

MsElle72 Re: 'Snap Happy' I'm afraid I have to disagree with YOU, You are an extremely beautiful woman, and, in My Opinion, the photos of YOU in your profile prove YOU are very Photogenic, do not ever conceal YOUR beauty.

Selfies can be fun and sometimes having my pic taken is fun also. Takes heaps of photos to get one great shot! I used to be so self conscious about my body and face, I disliked having my pic taken at ALL! As I am gaining more confidence I am accepting pics taken. The other week before heading out with girlfriends going down the elevator, I took some selfies. We were all dressed up and I thought WE all looked smokin Hot and fabulous! I said as we left the elevator, "that's enough of me being a bit narcissistic and loving myself" LOL I don't think I took any great shots tho, when I looked back at them. Not worth sharing. So does that make me a narcissist cause I don't mind taking fun selfies every now and again?? LOL I am sure plenty of people out there do like/enjoy taking fun selfies?? Foxy

I have an Iphone and when ever I turn the camera around (so I can see what pic I am taking of selfie), it 's not the same sharpness and focus pic I get when the camera is the right way around? Hope that makes sense?? I can't work that out on my phone. Foxy

SuperFoxxxy - that's because the front/back iPhone cameras are different, the front facing one has a lower resolution. I love taking selfies. Just not from my camera phone. Lights, timer, camera.I take stacks of photos, quite good at it (no e-brag....), there's a bit of an art to it, taking portrait photos is 90% psychology 10% talent. The first hour usually never have the best photos in them. Google 'peter hurley jaw' and watch that youtube... BAM instant improvement in selfies.
