I have heard people say the KIK app is very good.

Personally I don't go near anything like that - you have to pay for it, and continue to pay from what I see. I am also a little wary as the language used on the website is confusing and misleading. Buyer beware I think. I would recommend getting a prepaid phone and use that. Leave it at work so you're not tempted to use it during family time. Get Kik on that phone and you are good to go :)

Is ideal. Not much you can't do with kik... I love it allows any size video to be sent - Posted from rhpmobile

Blackberry Messenger (also available for Android, not sure about iOS) works well too - encrypted, you get a BBM ID to tell people (so they don't need your phone number), and being based outside of the USA it's (marginally) harder for the NSA to get your info. Though if you're using Android or iOS they have it all via the manufacturer anyway... :-)

Please educate a 43yo technology dunce.... ... after you've established communication and then met someone (from RHP, as you said).... .....why would you need messenger services if you can simply ask for their phone number?

Because they could still be a fruit loop. I've spent the last 6 months having fake Facebook pages made, my number put up on websites and all sorts of crap from a couple I met on here ! I told them I didn't want to take things further. I feel sad for them that they have nothing better to do. I guess though you have got to be pretty cool to have a stalker lol! Now they have resorted to texting me from a prepaid Telstra sim pretending to be a pissed off wife! All this childish behavior from a couple in their 40's!!! (Btw if anyone in the Canberra or Queanbeyan region has had this happen I would like to hear from you as I have the feeling there's more men and women this has happened too) They found my Facebook page by using my phone number that was linked. I only use kik now and give my number out to people that are special.

Because married people have to be careful that they don't inadvertently end up with a bunny boiler or so they can poke and run and the person can never find them again.

Well OP - if you were open and honest - you wouldn't need an APP. Thanks for informing some on here of a secret hidden (poke an run) APP used on mobiles. LMAO! I wonder how many now will be snooping/checking their partners phones for that APP??? Foxy

But it's contextual for me... If I meet them - and the meeting goes well - then I'm happy for them to have my number. However.... I don't see anything wrong with the RHP mobile app. You get notifications within 30mins of the message being sent - no different to kik or one of those. Although currently the push notifications still aren't working after nearly 6 months if not longer .... Yes that's a Hint hint RHP techs. And in the words of blackboard from the kids show Mr Squiggle.....mmmmm hurry up!!!! - Posted from rhpmobile

I messaged someone here once and apparently their partner saw the rhp message banner on the phone... I didn't know, and it proved a tipping point in her relationship at the time, so I guess that's why rhp neutered the app... NEEDLESSLY !! The app already has the ability to switch on/off push notifications... SO WHY RHP CANT WE BLOODY USE IT ?!! The (almost instant) message notification feature was THE best feature of the app... Hp xo💋 Because you're worth it...

Like DG, ralf, foxy and stir, I also don't require a "clandestine app" if someone wants to stalk me, my number is 300mm high on the side of the happy van... In fact I wish more women would use it when they like the look of that tradie at the traffic lights... ;) Hp xo💋 Because you're worth it...

Even though I am a single guy I have a monkey business phone because I my business phone is for business, not monkey business :-) Happy enough to give out the number when it becomes appropriate in the conversation but I recognise that the lady or couple may have different circumstances so also use Kik. By the way a play partner mentioned that Viber is one that pops up the message over a phone's lock screen so not ideal if you want to keep it away the kids eyes. Play safe and have fun Brad

Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' Well OP - if you were open and honest - you wouldn't need an APP. Thanks for informing some on here of a secret hidden (poke an run) APP used on mobiles. I think it's got to do with dishonest necessarily. I wouldn't usually give out my number before meeting someone, as I like to know people are what they say they are first. After that, I'm more than happy to. Your use of the word "clandestine" wasn't promising though, OP.A quick Google search instantly came up with some messaging apps that require a password to view any messages (both sent and received) for anyone cheating on their partner or perhaps with curious kids.

If you used your mobile number when setting up your Facebook account and your privacy settings there aren't ironclad, people can easily find out more about you than you bargained for.

They put vulgar stuff up and friend requested my friends :-( Luckily it didn't really do any damage as they seemed to pick my friends that are naughty!

I found I already had it on my phone (serial app tryer-out-erer) but didn't end up using it since the only people I ever saw saying they had kik were spambot lovely girls from russia who were so happy to meet me :p

The wife uses Kik for her sexting escapades, and I use it to keep in contact with her while away, but it seems I have a bugged version as its constantly letting me down by not connecting. The previous version I had worked a treat though. Cheaper than texting.

Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' Has anyone tried Viber??? What was it like?? Foxy Viber is great, I use it all the time when overseas (or to overseas people) but it is phone number based, so you can't just give out a username and maintain some anonymity - you have to give a phone number. It does have block lists in it now, so if you had someone pestering you, you could block them - but they could just ring/sms.

Quoting 'S_OnTheLoose'Viber is great, I use it all the time when overseas (or to overseas people) but it is phone number based, What's the difference between Viber and Whatsapp?

"Send free messages and make free calls to any device that has Viber, on any network, from your Android. Viber lets you make free phone calls and send text, sticker, photo, voice and video messages for free to anyone who also has the application installed." Free calls? That does sound great. But I guess you could use Skype on your phone for that, which requires a username and is more anonymous.

Yes my daughter uses Viber and says "everyone uses it"...she told me to install. I have WhatsApp but rarely use it. I think I am happier using the good ol text and phone calls and face-to-face conversations tho. So can I install on I-phone? Foxy

Hi guys ;) I've been quiet lately... I've used kik and Viber. The problem with kik is that there's no voice or video, so how can you be sure there's definitely a woman involved and not just a single guy?
