Country Race Days

September 05 2018

Having now committed myself to attending the undoubtably internationally famous Thangool Cup Race Day this weekend, I was hoping to brush up on some appropriate vocabulary for the said event. I am planning to don the required country attire (including pants) and wander about quaffing fine champagne (as I'm told one does at such events) but, not being a race goer, I have no idea the correct terminology one is required to use to "fit in". I was thinking of various exclamations such as "I must say, I like your frock!", along with "jolly good show old horse" and perhaps even the odd "Rhubarb Rhubarb", but am not sure. Does anyone out there have any other suggestions or advice as to the appropriate racing terms one should use? As usual, any advice is more than welcomed. Xx Obi1

Punt- willingly giving away lots of cash to seedy dudes wearing fedoras. Punter- such person that hands over quantities of cash to the fedora wearers. Odds- random numbers meant to indicate ratio of return on your punt if get a winner. Nag- a horse you punted on that’s not even good enough for the glue factory. Jockey- little person with a helium voice that whips the horses ass as it runs in its big circle. Scratched- a horse that was withheld from a race, likely due to it being on dope. Favourite- the horse that has the best media backing and shortest odds. It’s a real gamble to punt $500 to win $5 on the favourite. Roughy- the naggy looking horse with big odds, guaranteed to be a retirement fund punt if it wins. Hints, -don’t dress as a cop and stand near flower beds. -ensure your win is actually a win before you spend the winnings before actually collecting it. -beware of all the drunk people on the ground, OH&S trip hazards. -don’t bet on a horse called My Face. Nothing more perturbing than watching a drunk person waving wads of cash around screaming “come on My Face! Go you good thing!” I’d offer more, but generally country races offer limited memory retention after the event.

"Bravo, bravo..!!" is an acceptable filler when you haven't got an idea, I think.

Fraser who decided for SOME weird fucking reason to visit Meekatharra... and they got fucking stranded there during an election campaign.. Anyway.. Tamie looks the fuck on the town, and joins the multitudes who have before and since and said "God Fuck me DEAD... this fucking place IS the END OF THE FUCKING WORLD Isn't it Malcolm?"But Malcolm's fucking microphone was on... and the 56 locals on hand, the 342 dogs hanging around AND the fucking camel looking over the back fence ALL heard what she said...Well: Tamie is no slouch, and she didn't care WHO heard her say what she felt..HENCE.. Meekatharra started "The end of the world CUP"They DID in fact, invite Tamie back to present the very first "Cup"And, her being the Darling she is/was/whatever... she did it.. in beautiful fucking style and humour.."IF you have never attended the "End-of-the-World-Cup" at Meeka, you have not been to a country race meeting..

Mea, thanks for the footwear tip! 😊. Apparently the Thangool Cup Day is a pretty big event on the social calendar up here. Any advice on the appropriate garb for a discerning gentleman like me? (Take in mind that it MAY rain). Xx Obi1

I agree! I believe the odd "bravo" when exclaimed at the correct time would go down well. Sort of old school, and nicely understated. I like that, and will file it away in my Race day repertoire! 👍 Ibi1

No mate, it's definitely the Thangool Cup. The "Thongool Cup" is held out the back of Mullumbimby (semi-nude event apparently!) 😂 Obi1
