I won't comment on the ladies, but for the gents, IMO people are forgetting its athletic APPEARANCE, not whether you're athletic in what exercise / sport / training you do. If you run 20 km five times a week, but are slim, then you should be putting in slim as the body type. Athletic should be only for guys if you've visible abs. Which would cut out 80-90% of those listing it. - Posted from rhpmobile

I agree- hubby put me as athletic initially as I have a muscular physique in certain areas, but I changed to average as I'm not athletic all over. I would rather undersell and over deliver, even if it means less come through. They can see in the profile pic that I'm not huge. Mrs Becks - Posted from rhpmobile

And you say this without displaying yourself 😏 whether I'm viewed as being athletic or not, 50 pictures is enough for them to see me clearly and makeup their own mind. I agree many fudge the truth but I get equally annoyed with no pictures, just sayin 😇

I say athletic would mean muscle definition but someone can be fit but not have clear definition and in life you want a partner who will do and experience things with you so give me a fit person - Posted from rhpmobile

It can be pretty subjective. Heavy weightlifters and long distance runners look very different, but they both have athletic body types. I suppose when most people think of athletic, they think of someone pretty lean with at least a bit of muscle definition. Yes I've seen people describe their body type as athletic and from the photos they have up I don't necessarily agree, but fact is you have to take everything in profiles with a grain of salt. Part of the online dating / hooking up game. Should also be remembered that someone's body type doesn't necessarily reflect their lifestyle or health status.

when people post forums like this Its all very subjective and open to individual interpretation. things like attractiveness, body shape and cock size can be endlessly debated on these sites. ultimately I learnt (missb here) to use my own eyes and ears to determine if I found someone attractive regardless of what their profile said. Until you actually lay your eyes on someone you never really know. To me athletic is muscles. Like the Mrd

Have to agree a bit with LD there. Lots of young guys are naturally active, and lots are lean and tight, some might have sex as their only sport 😀 and never set foot in a gym, but I see them as athletic, regardless of whether they have a defined 6 pack, that's how I see them, so all about perception, absolutely. There is also a bit of a gap between average and athletic, I probably fall in that gap but displaying athletic, at least for me, indicates I'm not a couch potato, I work to tighten muscle, exercise, it is important for me now to do that, I enjoy it and it is a part of the whole package. But average, me? Never 😂😂😂 Also add that men of all ages might be into particular sports, and women, and might be extremely fit and quite tight, but again not have the bulging muscles. Athletic is used a bit too freely granted, but so long as there is vision to go by, we can then decide if that body shape is for us or not. I'm personally attracted to the defined/developed muscle, essential in older men through my eyes, but cyclists for example, although not my thing, would be worthy of calling themselves athletic, or a hockey player, any sport where they keep in shape IMO

To me means someone who is of an Athletic nature or built. Who in their real life does some sort of sports or physical, activities IE: regularly goes to gym, outdoor physical activities etc. They also have stemina, drive and the mental and physical attributes, which they can demonstrate. Ie: well toned body/arms/abbs Ms Foxy PS even tho I train regularly at the gym and do some all sorts of physical activities, I've put "slim" down rather than athletic, as I feel that suits me better.

Definition from the Urban Dictionary ' Athletic - Body type characterized by a lean, sinewy, muscular physique (NOT scrawny, but not muscle-bound like a bodybuilders' or obese). Despite the name, many non athletes have athletically shaped bodies due simply to a healthy lifestyle' I agree that many people (both men and women) on here and many other online sites have a distorted view of their body shape and 'embellish' their profiles. However I also believe that we are all attracted to different things and find different things sexy and a turn on. I like tall, strong, well built men. They certainly don't have to have a six pack, but definitely someone who respects their body and takes care of themselves and makes me feel feminine and sexy. IMO sexiness is not a size, it's an attitude, and at the end of the day that elusive physical chemistry/sexual attraction is either there when you meet or not. But it would be nice if people didn't 'false advertise' so often 🤣 - Posted from rhpmobile

Cameras don't lie! Profile is just a self assessment of ones self and we use the profile description to screen and filter in a broad sense who we would consider swinging with. Regardless of how one describes themselves in their profile we make our decisions on the nature and maturity of the the conversation and the photo self describes a persons body shape regardless of what they think.

I'm not sure what options women have on RHP for body type, but it's kind of limited for men. Our choices are thin, slim, athletic, average, a little extra padding and large. Of all those options athletic fits me the best, even though I don't nor will I ever have a six pack lol. I'd like to think that for my age I'm definitely not an average build, so I'm basically left with athletic. Maybe don't be *too* caught up in what a woman looks like, but more about how she feels in her body and owns whatever size she may be, you might be pleasantly surprised OP.

Personally I would rather undersell than be accused of false advertising. But again that's subjective as I don't consider myself large so think a little extra padding suits me, but others would call me obese. Its really no big deal. Ultimately you have to make your own decisions on what you find attractive and not focus on the words used. Missb

As far as I'm concerned, athletic means "like an athlete" ie inclined to sporting and physical pursuits, being fit, coping with exercise. You can be thin and very unfit i.e. unathletic. But then again, while athlete typically refers to success at sports, sumo wrestling is a sport :)

The term athletic is not defined by how many abs you can see or how ripped and defined a person is. To state that it does is ignorance and an insult to some of the athletes out there who dont conform to your definition such as professional gridiron players. 6'11" 320pounds can run 60m in 7 seconds, squat 400kg, bench 300kg and dead lift 450kg. Tell me thats not an athlete. - Posted from rhpmobile

After seeing some of the descriptions people put in their profiles and then see the photos... some are obviously wearing rose coloured glasses. But then peoples definitions of an 'athletic' build can vary. Athletes with highly defined ab muscles etc would be described as athletic but then Serena Williams, with her solid build would also be called athletic. Skinny long distance runners could also be called athletic. Its a very subjective description. Personally for me, photos say it all. I take whats written with a grain of salt and make up my own mind (this is all coming from an 'average' guy).

There is a stark difference between being "active" and "athletic" body type. You can be active and still have a plump body. In the strictness definition, an "athletic" body for a female is lean with a little muscle definition i.e. professional female soccer player. For me? I love fitness models! Long, lean, slightly muscular legs, arms, and round butt, with just a hint of a 6 pack. THAT IS HEAVEN! Anything else, is just fit/gym body OR Average. I think females over estimate them selves on web profiles.

This made me laugh, yeah well once upon a time l used to be athletic, swam 100 laps of the Olympic Pool each and every day, then l grew up, got busy working, etc etc now lm just fat..yep still exercise swimming, walking, going to concerts jumping in mosh pit and eat only half of what l use too and you guessed it l dont lose an ounce, so please someone invent a magic potion that just removes my unwanted whale light layers. But just to set the records straight l can be athletic still in bed, legs still can go places l didn't think possible, of course these days have to also watch my crook back...lol..yep l definitely would not be described as athletic but l guess if that's what guys are looking for, then l suggest they ask any prospective mate for pictures in swim suits lol. Gee l think the world is becoming just one where we all have to have instant gratification for all our desires and needs and let's face it if your only looking for a quick fuck then of course your partner has to match your ideal look, forget about the intelligence or whether you may get treated nicer by gawd forbid someone less than perfect. Me l'm not gonna change to fit someone else's image of perfection, so my advice is, if your in bed with me and grab a handful of my stomach fat, you'll just have to imagine I've got boobs in the wrong places... Mwaaaah. Sometimes curves also soften the ride.. LOL remembering back to my skinnier days always wondered why l had sore hips after sex, now l know why, had no protection of fat lol. Arh well each to there own l guess. - Posted from rhpmobile

I would agree that athletic is an aesthetic rather than just how often someone does a physical activity. I would describe myself as both athletic in looks and in physical activity. For me athletic gives you the reaction that when looking at the person you think "that guy/gal definitely trains consistently and is consistent with proper nutrition". - Posted from rhpmobile

From my experience and having a couple of Olympic and Common wealth game athlete friends i all to well know the athletic aesthetic verys immensely...are also running rings around me in any kind of physical activity...?? Well hmmm not everywhere lol...but any way what I'm probably trying to say is yay! to positive body image and beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder and there are just far too many variants...so keep it simple and just love what ur working with....poice!!! 😝 - Posted from rhpmobile

If we're talking about RedHotPie, the section where you select 'athletic' is called 'Body Type.' It's not 'lifestyle.' You can have an athletic LIFESTYLE but not have an athletic BODY TYPE. Like myself - I go to the gym 4-5 times a week but didn't put down athletic because I don't have much muscle definition. I'm slim. An athletic body type is a healthy fat percentage and some muscle definition. I think the problem isn't with people not knowing the different but with some people market themselves dishonestly. I agree with I_touch_myself. What is the go with no pics. Words are subjective, a picture is a much better way to get an idea if there is an attraction. I'm in the boat of not skinny and not a really athletic body by looking at it. However, I wrestle 3/4 times a week for two hours (there's not many people doing that) and run (which sux) and this is what I've got. I go up and down a few kilos depending on my commitment levels. Quoting 'JillyK' Bring in the category of BMI instead, & must show a body photo from ankles to neck. That'll sort it all out. - Posted from rhpmobile Dear god no to BMI. By BMI almost every AFL player would be overweight. It's fine for anyone without any muscle, but it's weight, it tells zero if that's someone at 6 foot, 80 kg and ripped or 6 foot, 80 kg and a pot belly. As long as people have up photo's (whether public or private) you'll see whether they are bullshitting or not soon enough. All fudging (at best) does is red flag to me what else is someone going to bullshit on. It's why I prefer to put down my looks as average and leave it to those who do see my face photo's to decide if that's accurate or I'm underselling. Although whether you should be able to put in any subjective body ones (appearance, attractiveness) if you have no photos is another matter.

possibly another classification between average and athletic would fix the grey area?Take the two of us as example; I would not call us average but there are no 'visible abs;' working either and we say so in our profile bio. we aren't super lean but we have definition and are far from fat. so what to do? rightly or wrongly we kinda took the approach of body build, as in athletic "frame", shoulders, arms, legs.

Slim, you can be very fit etc but your general torso is SLIM. Slim long distance cyclists, slim, long distance runners say fall in this category. I won't necessarily go for a slim, fit guy per say. That's just me! I like my men athletic and with muscle definition. Their shoulders are wider and taper right down to a waistline. They have muscle defined upper arms, pecs, abs., strapping, well built, brawny, thicker on side profile. - Posted from rhpmobile

Manufactured muscles and abs are in no way a sign of fitness most gym manufactured men cannot maintain stamina and usually loose wind after a quick sprint. Fitness is cardio and weight resistance strength training. And being athletic is a term for someone who is focus on levels of distance and timing. if your athletic, abs and chunky Muscles don't prove a thing. My daughter could outrun any body builder ab packing gym junkie, so in my opinion a man can have a beer belly but still have an athlertic appearance.. David Boon is a great example.

This is actually a pretty good thread and we have ascertained 'athletic' is a bit nebulous. When I joined rhp I was definitely slim, but as I have been working out at some point I would cross over to being classed as athletic, and would be curious to know as to where that point is and wonder whether I have already reached it. Given most people's penchants for exaggerating perhaps I should tick that boxIt's a shame you can't tick two boxes, i.e. slim/athletic.
