Does anyone know why? Was it lack of patrons or a council issue??

from what we hear. Council was apparently unrelenting in their demands for extortionist size fees for what is in reality a social club. Also for us, after experiencing Sydney clubs the people who gathered at Utopia really did so for social gathering rather than play and getting to play there was at times difficult in terms of breaking the clique. We have been there on Friday and Saturday nights at times and there have beenless than half a dozen couples. Sad because Renee and Geoff really put a lot of work into the venue.

We had the same problem in brisbane when "Mikes place" closed (rezoning). We'd just started to get into the scene, then ...BOOM...gone But after going to a few private partys we found there was plenty of variety. And surprise surprise they wernt scarey or seedy...lol Some are more social, some full on , and everything in between. I guess find the style you seek or have your own..as there IS a big need for them now as the clubs are closed.. Have fun Bernie

Quoting 'tyandeb' from what we hear. Council was apparently unrelenting in their demands for extortionist size fees for what is in reality a social club. Sad because Renee and Geoff really put a lot of work into the venue.Unfortunately its not just swingers clubs that are being affected. The general population really needs to stand up here and be herd about council's ridiculous demands on business for infrastructure charges etc............it is killing all forms of business in this state and unfortunately if a business cant open reasonably efficiently we will all end up suffering from higher unemployment and a lower standard of living.....there ismy rant against the establishment for the day..........

for the very reason, that most if not all that go are there to play, there are no pretensions, and you get a pretty good selection as well. Some parties are no more than a social gathering and some are full on play and you grab a drink when you can. We have only been to one party venue that was negative, while many played it was held by a closet Nazi who treated all the ladies in attendance as 'my girls' and we pretty promptly gave that the flick, but all in all we haven't been to an unsuccessful party, YET, we also hold our own invitation only events on occasions in up market penthouses or homes on the Gold Coast (hi to all our party friends). We do also like the Sydney style of clubs which are more for group play and maybe any person intending to re establish a GC club might take it on board as that style certainly is popular.

I think CI would cover your bases in terms of being both a great place to socialise with like-minded people and also play (there is always something sexy going on everytime that i've been there!). The theme nights draw really good crowds and are always very fun (even the Bondage night which I went to last year, although a smaller crowd perhaps due to the fact that it targeted a more specific group, was a hell of a lot of fun!). I used to be a member as part of a couple and really hope to get back there more often as a single girl. The people there tend to be very friendly and approachable and the owners are lovely too, even though i've not had more than a little chat in passing with them. Although I tend to be a little below the average age bracket (which translates to rhp and such as well) it has a good mix of ages and people too.

We moved to the coast from Sydney 17 years ago and haven't looked back. There are all types though and it takes a special person to like Sydney - there are some wonderful people there just too damned many of them spread over a way too big an area. Anyway, the coast we love, the sex we can get anywhere.

I think the only real solution is to create your own fun by hosting drinks/meet and greet nights and private parties. We didnt get to experience the club scene on the Coast before it all closed down (was on our list just never got around to it) so i guess it is a bit hard to comment on what we are missing but it does seem sad to me that the councils make it so darn hard for these types of business to operate, i guess they have to be scene to be supporting the muggles lolMrs GC

Parties are definitely the best way to go!! Clubs can be good, Mike's Place was definitely the best club if you actually wanted to meet people & play until that rezoning glitch put an end to it. The advantages of the private party scene is (if it's run right), everyone is introduced so there's none of that Mexican Stand off stuff happening, more relaxed and more suited to people who actually want to play, and generally much cheaper (if not free) than clubs. If you just want to chat & suss people out..there are meet n greet (non play) nights for that. When we first got into the scene we used to hear about these "Parties" in Hotel Suites & Penthouses or at private homes but it was all kind of underground back then and hard to find out about, but now they are on almost every weekend somewhere.... Happy partying!!

We have met you at a couple of parties now and your attitude is great - as well as the bods by the way. We agree the parties are the way to go as they are far more relaxed and you do actually get toplay most times. While the demise of Utopia is sad we won't particularly miss it overall.
