I find it interesting that guys around my age seem to either look really young or a lot older, I suppose you could say the same about women too, but I am not usually looking at them, lol. I think things such as smoking, drinking, general health, diet, weight, sun exposure and genetics all have a say in how well you age. I think some men age very well but I think beards and baldness sometimes age men but not all the time. Bald is very sexy on some men, not a fan of beards though.

I think it depend on your DNA firstly....then harsh living conditions and live.....happiness and mental care. And we are speaking about a natural aging process not with BOTOX or Plastic surgery, is this right? Men and women age equally.

At my 20 yr school reunion I would say that 90% of the women looked great. Most had retained their figures, and sure there were a few wrinkles but they all still looked similar to their teenage selves. However, most of the blokes appeared years older than the women. One guy Was unrecognizable and looked in his 60s! Lots of blokes were balding and grey. I don't know, to me all the women looked fabulous at 40 yet a lot of the men looked old and dowdy. Not all, but a lot. Women make a lot of effort with their appearance I think. Fashionable clothes, make up, good haircuts and dye jobs, facials, the daily use of moisturizers, waxing, etc.

Make up, if you know the tricks can take years off your face. Give you wider eyes for example. Having your eyebrows shaped gives you bigger eyes. Eye drops can brighten your eyes and make them whiter as well. Whitening your teeth also makes you look younger. Hair dye is an obvious one.... Although I love men with greying hair and always have. They are so sexy! Making sure your skin is moisturized, a bit of oil Can give you a health glow. Etc etc. Those things are quite simple to do and are inexpensive (relatively) as well.

And we are speaking about a natural aging process not with BOTOX or Plastic surgery, is this right? Men and women age equally. I believe that our DNA has quite a lot to do with it, then as you mentioned, then the environmental factors kick in as well. However, women can resort to all sorts of make-up routines that may help with keeping one's looks in tow, whereas most men generally have little to no fallback in that regard. As Ralf mentioned, facial hair usually doesn't do many favours for a guy regarding looking his age (or younger), and many people (ladies too) start to get grey at some point which doesn't do much for one's appearance either. Most men will just go with the flow, some will try to superficially keep up. Tall

I would say women age better when in their 40s and 50s However men then age better in their 60s to become more statesman refined while women start to struggle. - Posted from rhpmobile

How do you think they stacked up looks wise the morning after sans makeup and "I'll look better than those bitches" hairdos?

it's at least partly because women have much more societal pressure on them to try and stay looking younger for as long as they can, which is both fed into and taken advantage of by companies selling all of the products that are supposed to help us achieve that. Yes I know it's a generalisation and that not all women feel that pressure, and in the last few years there has been more advertising and media attention on men as well but it's still nowhere near the extent it is for women. Many women - yes including me I fully admit it - will say that regardless of external pressure we like to take care of ourselves and look nice and I'm sure it's true to an extent, but nobody can really say they are completely separate from their social environment and conditioning so I wonder where the line is now between the 'innate' sense of wanting to look good vs the feeling of 'needing' to look a certain way to meet certain social standards.

I actually think that men age better than women especially post 40, the exception is Asian women who seem to be very very lucky. A guy can just shave his hair - problem solved and his body usually doesn't change that much compared to women who have been through some big changes both hormonal and physical in the case of those who've had children. My male perception here though.I travel around Aus a bit for my work and I also see big changes depending on where you live, up north the sun certainly seems to take its toll but there diets seem to be better sort of the reverse of Sydney LOL

When it comes to aging ... men generally tend to accept the inevitable whereas women tend to prolong the inevitable.

At your reunion what % of males and females turned up? Perhaps men care less about their appearances and the women who didn't think they looked good didn't turn up. I'm just putting the argument up for consideration, I'm not saying I believe it's the case. I often wonder if at reunions the successful are more inclined to turn up. For example the overweight, unemployed divorcee may be less inclined than the model looks, successful business, perfect family man/woman. - Posted from rhpmobile

Having spent alot of time with people over the age of 70 i would say that women come out on top in regards to ageing. Ignoring cosmetic issues, mentally women seem to be more switched on and active for longer than their male counter parts. I have seen alot of women this age having to care for their partners of similar age who have deteriorated alot faster than themselves. Which is ironic since traditionally it was the done thing to do for women to marry men older than themselves. There is alot to be said for woman finding someone a little bit younger than themselves :)

the first time I went to Bali I looked at an Indonesian women's magazine.. the same cosmetic companies that advertise tanning bronzing products in Australian magazines were advertising products to bleach the skin.

I think it's genetics, I'm lucky enough to have good skin and I think I'm aging quite well, but I think it comes down to genetics, rather than a male/female thing. Also the way you treat yourself, what you are putting into body, how well you look after yourself as a whole. Age old saying, "you get out of life, what you put in" applies to lots of things...... 💋

is a major aging factor. Woman give it out, men take it (plus make-up)

up away. We are not talking about what we look like when we are made up for going out. I think its equal. Ok women live longer, but do they always look younger as men I don't know.

people in general are aging better now then ever. We are educated about good nutrition, have good fresh whole foods readily available year round, we are educated about sun safety (threw a bottle of reef oil at a friends teenage daughter whilst educating her about the dangers of sun exposure whilst killing Orangutans habitats) We know the importance of excercise and value the increased health benefits, energy and mobility that active people enjoy. We have access to health services. We also have lotions, potions, vitamins, foundation wear and if one chooses cosmetic surgery.

Has anyone watched those YouTube videos where women can change their entire face, even the shape of their face just with make up. They can look like Angelina, or give themselves a slimmer face, or smaller nose. It's quite amazing.

Are we talking naked and natural? If so then I'd say the sexes are pretty much even. Skin sags, wrinkles form, hair greys. Women as a general rule just spend more time hiding their flaws from suspecting eyes, and using other enhancement techniques to hide whats really happening to their body (push up bras etc). Will be interesting to see the results of women joining the workforce in higher numbers to see if the pressures of the workforce have a whole lot of effect on the aging process(stress, manual labours effect on the body etc).

I don't think so...I know its how you feel about yourself Treat your body with respect, mind, body and soul, and believe in yourself, I feel more confident with who I am than I have in years and its taken half my life time to realise this, don't waste your time contemplating, get out there and enjoy all that life has to give As for aging men, there is some very sexy men out there with grey hair, don't change a thing unless ts your attitude on life Don't wait for everything to be perfect, before you decide to enjoy your life

That gets me its identifying what age the person is in, as I age disgracefully or trying to, the age groups that are hard to distinguish are the mid to late 20s to mid 40s. I have been astonished by how young some of the mid 40s look and saddened by how old some of the mid 20s look because of lifestyle choice, and anything in between is a potential nightmare trying to identify. Most of the ladies on here look far younger than their real age.hmm the comment of no make up, not noice matey.

I'm. Not sure who much perception comes into it but when I look at most people my age, I wonder what makes them look older than me. I'll go with genetics and no kids.
