Festival Follies

August 25 2018

Ah yes! The Moura "Coal 'n Cattle" festival is on again! Yee-har! Giddy-up! And so, as the Cap'n and I are in town (painting the Council swimming pool), we thought we might mosey on down to partake of said festivities. Trouble was, having consumed a fair bit of the Cap'ns home made spicy rum at our accommodation beforehand, when we arrived at the show grounds I simply fell out of the passenger side door of the work truck. Luckily it was onto a large patch of soft, comfy warm sand, whereupon I decided that was where I was going to spend the night and just listen to the music. I woke up at 2am with the temp being minus 1 and a horse nibbling my ear. That was my night, and I was, for some reason, left feeling somewhat unsatisfied with the whole experience (attractive as the horse may have well been!) Has anyone had a festival experience that was either brilliant or somewhat flat that they would like to share? Xx Obi1

Pip, Lucky you! I have wanted to go to Meredith for ages! Heard most excellent things about it. Gotta love the "No Dickhead Rule"! 👍 Obi1

As you may know Meredith and Golden Plains is run by a ballot system so you can’t just buy tickets, I’m not sure why they do it that way but it’s been like that since time began. I guess due to limited tickets and overwhelming interest each year I have a inside contact so I go each year. I’m very lucky It’s the best festival ever and I’ve seen some awesome acts there, too many to list, great amphitheatre, I love how everyone brings a lounge to sit on the hill, well organised with plenty of portaloos , showers, food trucks, no dickhead policy and the mega popular cleanup song. Many hands make light work . Sunday morning masterclass Tai Chi is a riot followed by the traditional all nude Meredith Gift But even though held in the first weekend of December each year, it is always fucking freezing and I mean fucking freezing so everyone in Melbourne knows you don’t pack your uggies, scarves, beanies, gloves away till after Meredith Also NOONE goes to work on the Monday after Meredith , even if they have good intentions and work the night shift at Triple R, Meredith becomes a 4 dayer 28 years and still going strong and limited to 10, 500 tickets and this works Best weekend ever Boobs, Meredith is run by Aunty Meredith The website is well worth reading, lots of chuckles there and explains what goes down apart from the music www.aunty.mmf.com.au Bit of musical tenting goes on if you’re game to take your 7 layers of clothing off

"One does not simply but a ticket to Meredith" Had friends that got lucky with the ballot. They said it was a blast! You are lucky!! (I might have to start a "Snorkus Festival" up in the hill behind Mullumbimby instead!) 😎

I'll grab an Uncle Tom's pie plus a Wild Turkey n Coke on my way then I'll be there!

Yep. Mullum's still a pretty cool place! Has changed a lot though from when I did my HSC there. Talking about festivals, back then old Nola pretty much started at Mullum what has morphed into what is now the Byron Blues Festival (and what a festival THAT now is!). For years, friends of mine have wanted me to start a private annual gig up at Wilson's Creek (up in the hills behind Mullum). Seriously now thinking it would be a great potential RHP event venue!

Everything MOFO is wonderful and well worth the trip and threat of frostbite. I never get to Tassie in Winter but have enjoyed the January festivities in previous years. The Karidale Circus festival is one of those anything ‘could and does happen’ OP. I wish I got there more often but I’m always in Tassie when it’s on! 😁 Learning to lapdance in an empty water tank, from a very tongue and cheek transvestite rings a bell. 👌🏼 Brilliant. - L_D 😊👍🏼 - Posted from rhpmobile

I used to frequent a lot of outdoor doof partys back in the day. Being dragged from the dancefloor to a tent was always something to look forward to ;)

It's one of the most beautiful parts of Oz. My connection is that Dad went to high school in Kyogle and has a brother living in Mullum so most of my rels live up that way. Brunswick Heads is one of my all time fave beaches.
