Food For Thought

February 26 2016

So......after eating my own body weight in pizza rolls, potato chips and pods (true story) I thought I would ask the question....... What is it about food that has us running for the comfort Ben and Jerrys, freshly baked bread, cheese etc? What is your drug of choice? And what food do you love eating when sharing a meal with someone? What meal reminds you of home?

Blue cheese, Brie, Cheddar, Boursin, Feta, Halloumi....add some crackers, olives and chilli relish and Im like a pig at the trough. I could give up chocolate but not cheese. Likewise with friends or a guy, I like cheese, crackers and savoury finger foods, no cooking to do so you can spend more time "socialising." Washed down with some bubbles, and theres my favourite scenario

I had to look it up! Yummo! I love savoury food also. I feel sick after eating all of that earlier 😞 I love cheese but can't eat too much of it because I'm lactose intolerant. And I love some beautiful white wine vinegar, a French stick and dukkah! At home I tend to be lazy and open a pack of Smiths lol! Summer - you are so right about those things being seen as rewards. I hate food rewards in general for kids because they grow up and "reward" themselves with the same crap. But instead of having one they have a bag (speaking from personal experience) Potato bake and casseroles remind me of home. And baking biscuits. My husband is half Sri Lankan and they have the best curries! Like you it's hard to get a good mix - and quite frankly I can't be bothered grinding 20 spices and roasting them to make one. So we get a Ceylon powder from the international food store. And they make the best curry rolls which I have to learn. It's a curried meat usually with some vegetables, rolled in a pancake, crumbed and fried.mwe always fight over them when his mother brings them over!

... because they have the Japanese burger chain, Mos Burger there. I love their Teriyaki Beef Burger washed down with Pink Guava Juice. The umami is so satisfying! Otherwise, a good burger with melted cheese will suffice. Or a gourmet sausage roll dunked in my favouite Lingham's Chilli Sauce. In winter, it'll be Campbell's Country Kitchen Cream of Chicken soup - with leftover shredded Coles' Roast Chix, Goji Berries, Flaxseed Oil, Garlic infused Olive Oil, Chia Seeds and Dried Parsley Flakes added. And sssshhhh... Spam fries on the rare occasion. They aren't food from home, but they are my comfort food.

I love the share platters from Kong's, a Korean Fusion restaurant along Chapel Street. It is much cheaper to get similar food from any Korean restaurant though. I also think the Large / Jumbo plates of Half-and-Half chicken from the new South Korean chicken joint popping up all over Melbourne - NeNe Chicken is awesome for sharing. I love the Swicy (Sweet and Spicy) and the Bulgolgi Fried Chicken. I also love to share the appetisers you get from Japanese Izakaya's (Pubs) like the famous Maedaya along Bridge Road. Pizzas are also great for sharing. So are American BBQ Platters from Big Boy BBQ. The only thing is, I am a slow eater and often, when sharing, I lose out because everyone else wolves down the food. I look up, and it's all gone! :(

My vote goes for cheese, (of almost any type)......and to go with that, dry bikies and bubbles sounds fine! PS Koko if that bum is the result of cheese eating , don't you dare give it up, because its working very well.

Of food (fresh and perfectly cooked) will have me running for the food that I love eating, in general. I am a huge seafood lover and can't live without them! I can eat seafood at any time, but I don't like sharing them much lol in fact, I am not a big fan of sharing meals with other people, nor do I like to share people's food ether. The only food that I can share are pizza and seafood platter, any other types of food, I have the sense of entitlement to myself 😛 Although, living in Australia is very convenient where you can get almost any type of Asian dishes as long as you have money, I still miss eating Cambodian curry every time I have a curry dish, which I cannot yet find in Australia and it reminds me of home. - Posted from rhpmobile

Only a little chocolate? My kids used to watch me devour a whole big block every day, I still probably go close to that every day, love the stuff Obviously I love my HJ's, large whopper meal deal does it for me almost better than sex, no who am I kidding, good though. A meal that reminds me of home is soup. My mum made and still makes the best soup. I made a big pot of chicken soup this week, use pumpkin and pearl barley to thicken it, but it has a Thai or Asian flavour, lots of fresh ginger, chili, bean sprouts, spinach, loads of other vegies and chicken breast but I leave that in large pieces so it doesn't dry out, eventually breaks up, goes all stringy and becomes part of the soup. Delivered a few containers to my neighbours, froze some for me and still had enough left for about 3 days. And yep, it was best on the third day, soup always gets better when it's been in the fridge for a few days. My kids loved this soup, even when they were young. I'd be happy just to eat that every day, and chocolate of course
