Foot In Mouth

August 05 2018

Being new to speaking my mind I quite often feel like I’m putting my foot in my mouth. I don’t mean to, honeslty, I think the freedom of speech struggles to convey from mind to pen (or in this case keyboard) but I know I’ve potnetially stuffed up a few good things. Is foot in mouth controllable or I’m I done for and just need locking away in the cupboard never to be brought out again? Lol - Posted from rhpmobile

Are you talking about miscommunication in person or in writing (all forms)? Obviously writing can be misconstrued, misinterpreted, etc. People will make unnecessary assumptions, based on their own personal space they are in at the time, while in person, you can be eloquent, there is body language, any thoughts or questions can be dealt with or explained immediately. HOWEVER even in person, many of us don't have the 100% communication capability we really want, we may think of a better way to have said something AFTERWARDS. We may know most of the english vocabulary, but struggle to find the right word/s at the right time/s. Sometimes we try to express something too simply, and it appears blunt and thoughtless, we try to express something more complex, then we are accused of overthinking. Sometimes it does feel we can never get it right. So yes, I completely understand where you are coming from.

Yep what those two other guys said, I don't have the learnt good wordsmith thing, so foot in mouth happens. Worst when your training large group and the cupboard seems miles away. Don't allow a few stumbles to upset your forward motion, u always regain stability, even if at times it's not pretty.

I invoke a sort of theory of relativity here I feel I have a pretty decent grasp of effective communication, should I choose to. But there will always be someone better at conveying a thought than me, if they should choose to do so That doesn’t always mean either they or I will fully understand the point being made, but, at the very least we get enough to understand the principles. The advantage of written opinion, is that it affords the author the luxury of time to research, edit and thus support their comment..... if they so choose Hence..... it’s all relative. But if anyone wants to engage in discussion and appear competent, relevant and intelligent on a public forum.... I’d suggest people choose to use the time factor to their benefit 👍 - Posted from rhpmobile

Write what you want to write, then before posting or sending, leave it for half an hour or more. Reread it after this pause and see if it still says what you want it to say. Often you will rewrite it to make something clearer that you did not see earlier. Or you might decide to hit cancel because what you wrote adds nothing to the debate. Then ask yourself: no matter how well written, did what I write attack someone? Is it insulting or demeaning? Does it rubbish someone's opinion just for the sake of it? Is it simply adding to the negative energy in the world? Then maybe best to cancel it. - Posted from rhpmobile

I own it. I speak before thinking on a daily basis and regularly put my foot in it. But if I've been rude, wrong or misundstood a situation, I'll own it and appologise. In word form...here, FB or texting, I'll take my time to form a reply or response, sometimes thinking it over in my head for half the day before responding. - Posted from rhpmobile

People will remember how you make them feel and less about what you say. If you come from a point of warmth and communicate that, none of it really matters. Regardless, there's no one who's thinking more about what you say than you. No one's thinking about you. If they are, it's not for very long and they're probably thinking about lunch. Or what they'll say next. Or the fact they farted in that corner and hope no one noticed. So just enjoy the people you spend time with because that's what matters. - Posted from rhpmobile

I don't have foot in mouth. I just dont suffer fools lightly and tend to say whatever else is thinking. Although l did always think that open forums were for everyone whether people agreed or not. Just my thoughts. - Posted from rhpmobile

Be prepared to take it. Simple. Male or female, 2 guys with their little insinuations take a look at yourselves... I’m a bitch and I own it and you want to give and make yourselves feel big - go for it... but I guarantee you think your gods gift and you aren’t... when you keep coming up against people who don’t respond favourably to you would it not make you stop and have a look at yourself? - Posted from rhpmobile
