Free Hugs Free Hugs!!

April 07 2013

In July is the FREE HUGS day....a day where plenty of people around the world go to a busy town centre and hold signs saying FREE HUGS.....it is an act of unconditional kindness ;-) How many here have done it or have hugged a person holding one of the signs? How many would hug a person holding one of the signs and if not why not? I will be doing it in Perth in July......so if you want a hug ill be there with maybe one or two others...!! A good hug can change someone's day!!

Am I right in recalling that it was an Aussie guy who started the Free Hug movement? I think it's a lovely thing to do - spreading joy in simple, genuine, very human ways, is so undervalued these days. It reminds me of the Dalai Lama's commitment to offering warm, genuine smiles, because people are moved by them and it's a gift he wants to give.   You're right that a hug can make an enormous difference to someone's day. So many people live without the joy of regular human touch. So many people are walking around with sadness in their hearts, and don't feel they can share it with people close to them. And then there are the fun, crazy people who just like to share the love :) Anything that spreads happiness and connection gets my vote.   People can see it as a gimmick. I prefer to see it as humanity reaching out to humanity.   Good on you for being part of it xxx

I know it has been done since 2006! Juan Mann (pseudonym) was the first to do it and record it...75 million hits on you tube. I think it is an awesome thing to make a stranger feel good by hugging them.. It is a selfless act that creates a snowball effect...

I've always been a sucker for hugs though there have been times in the last few years I've just not been up to it... but I'm sure if I'm in the city come July I'll be the frst to reach out and hug someone offering a hug... That sense of contact has to be the most generous offer... but in my experience, on RHP people will more often bitch than contemplate a simple hug. Hugs...

Would totally run up to you for a hug, PP... Sure, I've seen them holding up signs around the city before and I'm always happy to oblige - as well as doing a sneaky feel-up if they're cute ;)

A hug can make all of the difference in the world. Well done you! To answer your question, I've never seen someone offering free hugs but if I did I'd take them up on it. If it was you... Definitely!

Quoting 'Mischeviouslad' Again? I might need to kneel down this time. DG You'd have to climb off that high horse first. Wait, did I say that out loud? I meant white! White horse!

I can never have too many. Though with the current chest infection bed bug epidemics amongst my patients... Maybe I'll just wave.

This is an entirely self-serving request, but do you think maybe you could dress as a firey or tradie to hand out free hugs? I would possibly fly to WA for that :D
