From your secret admirer

February 04 2014

Yep, it's almost Valentine's Day again. It's easy to pooh pooh the day as nothing more than a profit-maker for Hallmark, but I prefer to ignore all that cynicism. As with Christmas, birthdays, summertime and any other time that has some tradition attached to it, I like to take another opportunity (along with all the other days of the year) to make people feel good. This year I think I'll send some anonymous flowers to a few single women I know, because they're great and Valentine's Day is a lovely day to feel appreciated. Are you planning something special for someone this VDay? Do you have a crush on someone and are you thinking of letting them know? Are there people around you who could do with a little lift to tier spirits when it comes to love and being desired? I say embrace the day as a chance to spread good vibes :D - Posted from rhpmobile

I do however love accepting gifts, flirts and unsolicited, unexpected messages of friendship, love, caring and affection! :).... Oh, and random acts of sexual gratification. It's commercial, it has hallmark written all over it but surely there's worse things to spend your money on? I used to splurge on my ex every year. And now I wait with baited breath every year for a little card, pressie, message, anything .... but each year I get the same thing. SFA.

Thank you. I love getting little snippets of love, affection and appreciation too :) It's not about the money, but the gesture. Yes, value them just as much on all the other days of the year. I think dismissing Valentine's Day and deliberately NOT celebrating love just because of the commercial aspect is a bit silly. I reckon celebrate love of all types whenever you can :) - Posted from rhpmobile

My facebook status on Valentines day last year sums up my feelings on this: Today has to be one of my favourite days of the year simply because it celebrates the best thing in the world, our reason for being alive... Love. That beautiful warm selfless emotion that drives everything good in this world. Every one of us has love in our lives in one form or another, love of a pet, of a child, of our friends, of a partner, even of an inanimate object (CHOCOLATE!!@#!$) and ultimately, of ourselves. If I could have a Valentines wish come true today it'd be that everyone recognises and appreciates the love in their lives and cherishes their own ability to love others. Love actively, not passively, and not just today, everyday! I LOVE YOU ALL

Has noone heard of "Steak and Blowjob Day"? Last year my boyfriend at the time "didn't do" Valentines day. He never asked me how I felt about it (which was CRUSHED), but I made sure to remind him when March 14th came around that I was disappointed not to be able to reciprocate with S&BJ Day (I think I withheld BJs for a good month as a result), needless to say, he was crushed. Sucked in, or not.

I do not have too follow the crowd and you are correct I defiantly do not support Halloween. Even a bigger crock of shit. Last I looked at my postal address I lived in Australia. Where do you get off on telling me I am deliberately not celebrating love because I think V day is a crock of shit. OOps sorry you thought it was silly..... same same too me Oh PLEASE!

How beautiful we have a special day to celebrate love each year. A day for those with long withheld assertions of love to come sneaking out and declare their love. All kinds of wonderful things happen. But I'm a romantic. I don't like the consumerism thats encouraged. . Cards and flowers can very well be free though, right up there with cuddles and kisses... hehe . I love the idea of spreading good vibes on the day, that's beautiful. xxx

My post wasn't a specific response to yours. It's just a general view I have that celebrating love on Valentine's Day is as good as celebrating it on any other day, and deliberately not celebrating it seems silly to me. You and others here, as well as many people everywhere, don't share my view. No problems, everyone has the right to their opinion :) - Posted from rhpmobile

A generalisation is a generalisation wouldn't you think whether specific or not. Personally I love too love and even love some, tho I do not need to be reminded on ONE day of the year. If I had a partner who only spoiled me on the one day of the year then I would not be with him. Valentines day is merely an expectation and I do not do expectations.

I'm meh on V day (always was even when I was partnered up), but I love Halloween!! Given that Australia is such a young country, there is very little here that did not at least partly originate from the culture or customs of another country. And Halloween is celebrated in various forms in a number of countries, not just the U.S. So I have no problem with it gaining momentum here as well, even if it has become over-commercialised similar to V day.

But one year I an enormous bunch of red roses was delivered to my work. The card simply read "All my love, J". It took me several days to figure out who it was, as the florist wouldn't tell me. (I did find out it was over 200.-) It turned out to be one of our new patients, who was delusional (a bit more than we realised) and thought I was his wife. No joke. He was transferred elsewhere that week. My partner was actually quite offended that I decided to keep the flowers. Hey, it wasn't their fault, so I put them on display. They lasted for ages. Anyone else?

I've done this a couple of times, play ninja St Valentine and send a secret admirer on someone who might need cheering up or who's just deserving of having something nice done anonymously. Only problem is this year the only place I can send anything to the candidate is her work, and I'm one of those people who thinks that kind of stuff should be left out of somebody's work. But yeah, nice to hear other people do this!

I think She's Gorgeous, Inside and Out. Having a Meal with her is a One Handed thing because one of my hands is always holding hers. Driving's not much better. Walking anywhere with her, Street, Restaurant, Movie, Shopping Centre, I want to hold her hand, I want to put my arm around her. Doing the dishes, Sitting on the lounge, It's still the same. I want her to know that I'm in Love, In Lust, with Her. In Public, In Private. I want Couples (and Singles) to look at Us and think "Where can we buy what they drink?"

Has its roots back in Roman times, then celtic... Not American. It's just more highly "advertised" as American because it features in so many movies. The Yankees take to a whole other level. The holiday itself is celebrated in different ways world wide.

I think it's really romantic and beautiful when a woman gets flowers/gifts of love at work. It does get her a lot of attention though, not all positive, so probably not a good idea to do it for someone who's shy. If you want to be the subject of her conversation and thoughts for a day, that's definitely the way to do it. I'd love it and am always envious of women at work who get spoilt :). It's even more wonderful when it's not Valentines day! I've always been big on gifting my men on Valentines day so I'd love to send a big gregarious gift to a man's workplace one day! Don't know how men would feel about that though, considering it's likely to contain very small underwear, chocolate sauce, "massage oils", handcuffs, roses and possibly even a cute fluffy teddy bear *grin*.

All our traditions come from some other country. Unless your indigenous. Including Xmas and I loath Xmas. Halloween I loved especially in ex mouth where half the population was from the USA. We eat the USA burger, the Indian curry. We decorate our gardens like Bali. We don't follow we just are. A mix of everything that our ancestors bought into this country. So embrace those traditions and customs and food that others have bought into this mixed bag of a nation. Those you don't like, well the good part is you don't have to take up that tradition. I love thanksgiving it's like Xmas without the presents. And my dozen long stem roses well that's just a little frosting on the cake. My husband makes me feel loved every day. The diamonds also help :)
