Getting a Vasectomy

February 07 2026

I've spoken with my partner recently and I've decided to get a vasectomy at some point this year. I just started researching providers and, boy, there are a lot to chose from! I'm leaning towards one in particular, only because their clinic is my private health network. I do, of course, plan on asking many of these questions to the doctor I end up chosing. I just don't know anyone who's had a vasectomy so I'm hoping to hear from anyone here as well. So my questions are for the guys here who've had the procedure done: 1. Which provider did you end up going with? What made you decide for one versus any other? 2. I've read all of the general FAQs on several websites and get the gist of what to expect post-vasectomy (mild discomfort/pain for several days, back to office work next day, no heavy lifting, no strenuous exercise, etc). Is this advice generally accurate or is there anything else that I should know about what to expect post-snip? 3. Was it worth it? Are you glad you had it done or not? Note 1: I'm in the Northern Sydney region and have been researching vasectomy providers in Northern Sydney, The Hills and Sydney CBD areas. Paramatta would also be a viable choice. Note 2: I'm fully aware that a vasectomy does not protect against STIs/STDs. My decision to get one rests solely on the fact that my partner and I are done having children and don't want to use condoms with each other.

Well I could highly recommend DrBlanks but I am here in Central Victoria. The Dr who snipped me was fantastic and we had heaps of laughs and was so simple and easy. I would think there would be one or two DrBlanks clinics your way. The follow ups were always prompt when they said they would get back to me and all were very encouraging nad happy to answer anything I asked. Where ever you end up going I hope it is as easy and a great experience for you too

Apologies I did not answer your 2nd question. For me apart from taking it easy and not being able to use the old fella sexually for a bit absolutely nothing from what the faq's tell you. Just be prepared for your cock and balls to go a lovely shade of deep purple. Worth it well has not affected me at all Glad I had it done, well I cannot impregnate a woman if I found that connection I seek. Not that I have but caused no problems and my life remains the same so yeah I guess so

Well if anyone from Brisbane is reading this and considering The Snip, I can only recommend thevasectomist.com.au in the highest regard. Booked in on a Sunday online and in on the Tuesday and took 15 mins for the whole procedure. He's amazing. I was back at work the next day, no real pain. Even had a bat the next day

I used my regular GP clinic they had someone who did vasectomies visit regularly. It's not complicated like brain surgery. There are many variables including the length of the vas deferens, shorter ones can be a bit complex. The vast majority of vasectomies are straight forward with no complications. Your recovery time will be whatever it will be, be prepared to lie low for a while. However I heard about one bloke who jumped his wife in the car straight away just to make sure it all worked. 🤣😂 After healing and 25 ejaculations you can get your cum tested for swimmers and then it a matter of adjusting to being a sports model instead of a working model.

1/ I can’t remember his name but I got mine done around 6 years ago by a gp in a small suburban shopping centre in Newie. Why didn’t choose him? He had restricted practice to this procedure for many years and had great reviews and he was dirt cheap and did it under local. I think it cost $220 or there about. 2/ procedure was completely fine under local, you do not need to do in hospital or under sedation. You could likely get your local vet to do it. Post op More discomfort than pain. For some time after sex came with a really nice pleasure/pain response, unfortunately this went away haha 3/ My main reason was like you we both enjoy sex with each other without condoms and the pill has too many risks and side effects and I didn’t want to subject my partner to them. Don’t be schmoosed by over priced hyped up doctors, this is a very simple procedure and I would be happy to go with anyone who had done more than 100 procedures, that would be the question I’d ask. How many done and how many ended up with complications. If they balk at answering exit stage left.

I had one recently (like, sitting here typing this with an ice pack on my Jatz crackers, recently) at Vasectomy Australia North Shore (Chatswood) with Dr Cashion. Was referred by my GP. Wait time was less than 2 weeks. Procedure was quick and easy. I was in and our in less than 20 mins. Still too early to claim success, but nothing has fallen off yet, so so far, so good. In all seriousness though, IMO, as long as you go to a reputable, experienced provider who does it for a living, it doesn't make much difference who you use, given its a very standard, straight forward procedure for 99%.

Had mine done and wasn't too bad. To answer your questions: 1 - I looked up local providers and went with ones that had good reviews. I then spoke with a couple of them to see how the process went. 2 - Mild discomfort that day, I was back in the office the next day. Took about 7 days before I could use it for anything. Just managed the pain with panadol. 3 - My partner and I didn't want any more children, so it was easier for me to get the snip instead of putting it on her to use birth control. Happy I got it done.

Just choose one close to you with good reviews. From memory you have one appointment to discuss the procedure and then one for the procedure. I did local, didn’t feel a thing. Stupidly went from there to my nephews bday party and he punched me in the nuts. Got ALOT of bruising that went from the balls to bell end, but the Dr said that is usual. Post op, what you need to tell your Missus is that the pipes must be cleaned out daily for a month (Doc said a few times in a month) so that will keep her busy lol. When you get the green light for no swimmers, then let the fun begin.

I used Dr Cashion too. Pain? The local hurt more than the procedure. No swelling, no after effects.

I got my vasectomy about 28 years ago, now maybe things have changed since then or it may just be me, but I sufferered from epididimal cists for a long time after. Still do from time to time, quiet painful for a week or so when it happens. Now I'm one of the rare ones that say do your own research and make an informed decision. If I had my time over I definitely would NOT have it done. 🧸.

Had mine done 18 years ago Monday had the doctor consult and the Tuesday had the procedure done. Next to no pain one day of discomfort but nothing else. Had it done as the wife at the time struggled with endometriosis and couldn’t take birth control but she loved creampies and we had also two children so we where content with two children so i stepped up as a man and did my part

I did what is called a no needle no scalpel vasectomy. I was shit scared as my dad and uncle had the old school method done and my uncle had a massive reaction and both had lots of pain. However, I can honestly say it was a piece of piss in the end. So easy and nothing to worry about at all. Google this type.and.you can find out about it.

Glad this was raised. I’m on the fence with it… but it’s probably the right thing to do. For those that have had the snip, can you confirm whether there’s been any change in the amount or the velocity in which you ejaculate?

Nice, good responsible move! I'd suggest avoiding booking in on a Friday in case you get an infection - it does happen and you'll want immediate treatment in that case. Other than that, it's not that complicated "taking out the swings and leaving the playground!" Erections and ejaculations were unaffected, if anything, I found several times a day and nearly every day became the norm with nothing to worry about. I also dislike being dragged off at the lights so there was no need to trade into a "people mover!"
