Highly sensitive person

November 12 2017

I have recently met a HSP and will like to hear your experience? For more info see hsperson.com A significant number roughly 1 in 5 have HSP trends. This is a very misunderstood neuro-diversity. It falls somewhere between neurotypical majority group and a minority group like autism and misses out the required attention. They often have to hear comments like you need to toughen up a bit. americanmentalhealthfoundation.org/2012/01/highly-sensitive-people-hsp/ Quote "One of Aron’s contributions is to note that the temperamental style of these persons has frequently been seen as something that is negative or pathological. For example, colleges now place great emphasis on letters of reference that document just how outgoing a young person is. Businesses want gregarious team leaders. And the DSM writers and editors may even confuse HSP qualities with elements of anxiety, depression, or OCD"

This is extremely interesting to me. I've spent a long time trying to improve and understand myself and have so many conflicting diagnoses, I don't know what to think. I don't put myself through that trauma of counselling any more. The Mr used to hate it when I'd come home more upset than when I left but I'd explain that it was not them that was the problem but me. My reactions. I have come an awful long way in the last 2 decades in particular, from suffering deep dread while watching the X Files to focusing a large part of my attention somewhere else when we're watching horror movies. So, I block it out more now is what that means. If we rewatch movies, I allow more through each time. The bonus of rewatching the movies as he loves to do so much! Funny story of the time hubby wanted to watch Aliens (not too long after it first came out). I sat in the toilet and read a book. I could see and hear them, but not the movie so much. True story, I've told it often. I try not to be too embarrassed by me by now... Peachy

Firstly I would ask how did the person come to know they are a HSP, are we talking of a self diagnosis or from a professional registered to provide a behavioral diagnosis. The other point to make is that we humans are a diverse species and any behavioral or mental health condition needs to be viewed across a spectrum from the very mild to extreme and while much time is often spent discussing the effects and visual observations of what we see a person doing. People who experience the likes of HSP are very good at managing their condition with many different strategies and techniques they have learned, and at the same time using the special qualities and skills they have to provide a service that others can't achieve to a similar standard.Sounds like someone with HSP would be a very loyal friend and considering how many fake profiles we are coming across on RHP, I would hang onto them.

I consider myself to be a Hsp having always shown traits in my youth but then exacerbated by the loss of my soul mate several years ago. I believe chronic stress from my prolonged grief has been a major trigger. - Posted from rhpmobile
