Crown towers , The Blackman Art Series Hotel, The Royce. Have been back to the latter several times - penthouse exec room. It's a nice quiet, low key hotel, with a cosy bar / restaurant. We don't do "motels" as generally they are stuck (decor wise) in the 70's and have seedy connotations. Recently spent a few days in a luxury villa : Hepburn at Hepburn. That has been our favourite so far. - Posted from rhpmobile

The Rendezvous in Scarborough. Have some fond memories........ and also you get the most awesome sunset views over the ocean. Small and discreet, the SunMoon Resort in Scarbs, a small boutique hotel with lovely spa rooms.

* Meriton Serviced apartments on Kent Street - rates are dear, but you pay for quality and convenience. The property locates right in the heart of the night life clubs, pubs and restaurants, as well as at the doorstep to Darling Harbour. Not to mention that Town Hall station and bus stops are just outside the block for travelling up to The Rocks and Sydney Opera House. * Hilton hotel - again, rates are dear, but quality and convenience are what you're paying for! The hotel is right across QVB and a few minutes walk to Pitt St Mall and Westfield. Also, only 10 minutes walk to Chinatown if you're after some quality Chinese cuisine. Not to mention that full buffet breakfast at the Glass Brasserie restaurant is a heavenly enjoyment to indulge in if you're into good food and fine dining. * The Rydges hotel - centrally located in Sydney CBD with cafes, restaurants, clubs and pubs just outside the building and a very short walking distance to Darling Harbour for night life outings. Then you have the Hyde Park on the other side of the block where you can go and lay down in the sun for some warmth, when it's sunny that is 😛 - Posted from rhpmobile

I disagree with the Hilton in Sydney, it is generally shockingly bad value even if you're Diamond status. I don't think it is worthwhile for location or quality of room. Free brekky if you're Gold or higher takes out some of the sting but I don't even bother with it anymore (Surfers Paradise I like, convenient and OK priced). Four Seasons or ShangriLa are pricey but the rooms are a good size - though not convenient for china town. I've posted about the Marriott Pier One (under the Harbour bridge before) and its exposed beam rooms that can easily be rigged with rope/swings. Perfect excuse to top up your points balance and they're good sized rooms. (I also like Marriots because of the lowest rate discount you can get if you find a cheaper price elsewhere) Four Points Sheraton darling harbour is probably a favourite now the renovations have been done - they even have a room 666 (seemed appropriate at checkin) - I like that it is convenient to park, to darling harbour, and to china town (especially the cream puff machine). Fairly reasonable compared to Hilton. Novotel I find overpriced unless you can get a deal - if you can combine platinum status with the Accor paid membership discounts on a private sale it can be great value, though the suites are very tough to snag. I prefer the Rockford to the Novotel if the choice was between the two. I second Sweetgems suggestion of the Meriton apartments, they're always a consistent go to wherever you are. The website can do interesting pricing though, so it can pay to try it from a couple of browsers and private mode tabs and see what comes up. Oaks Apartments across from harbour side have some nice rooms, but haven't been there in a long time. I would actively recommend AGAINST the Mercure Sydney near Central Station, it's the only place where I've ever felt seasick from the building sway and the bed swaying - bad even just lying down to sleep, let alone while ...um... Not lying down. Hotel Harry is nice and convenient to Oxford street. Melbourne - Bella Apartments. Right near crown and great pricing when I used them. Same quality as a Meriton apt. Unless you're really after a particular property, or working within a program/chain, just using Kayak it is petty easy to suss out good deals for decent places.
