My friend is a grade prep teacher here in Mlebourne and they are not even allowed to hug a child if they hurt themselves.  They are only allowed to pat the child on the back.  How reassuring is THAT??? My girlfriend does not adhere to this rule as she is a parent herself and would want her child to feel comforted in a time of need.   I completely understand that there have been some sicko's employed in the education sector lately but I think this is taking it too far for the trachers that actually genuinely care for our children.  I would be sadened if my child was just left in some Sick Bay at school should she hurt herself.  Sometimes all it take is a quick cuddle for the tears to stop and the injury to be forgotten!!!!

They also changed baa baa black sheep, to baa baa rainbow sheep? Is that correct? The word black is probably the least of that particular songs problems.....

Jose... yes please ya cheeky man hehehe Sophie... hugs are an essential of everyday life and we love them too Hey there GTX... that would be sad! I think the idea of Baa Baa Black Sheep, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, is that the odd one out wasn't that odd in the end. I am working on the idea of the black sheep of the family when I say the odd one out. I remember getting in trouble from my kids during their time at school for using the ... eenie meenie minie mo, catch a ------ by the toe. We are now expected to use pigger instead, you would think they would realise that there's no way to talk about the police... Hugs all!!!

I haven't heard anything about hugs being banned at our school, but I think that is taking things a little bit too far!  Then again, most of the shit they come out with these days is taking it a bit too far!  (Sorry I swore, but it really gets me riled up!).    I figure that a good percentage of adults have turned out fairly well adjusted, good, moral, respectable members of the community without mindless prejudices even though we sang baa baa black sheep, ate golliwog biscuits and gave each other hugs!...gracious, we even got the odd smack from our parents (or heaven forbid, got the cane or ruler at school)!!!   It is true about Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep - my kids learnt that at kindy quite a few years ago!  We also use 'Tigger by the toe'...but in that instance, I think that is fair enough.   GRRRRRR!  What is this world coming to?

I'm not too sure of the details, just heard a mention on the radio and Mr P said he heard something during the day, I'm hoping other RHPs may have more to offer to fill in those details.Rainbow sheep... spare me... tho I imagine the whole 'black sheep' thing I mentioned before may well have started from having mixed blood in the family... but not to my knowledge and that's not the way I see it which I think is what matters!GRRRRRRR... Our sentiments exactly... what IS the world coming to?A quote by Virginia Satir: “We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth.”(Hugs Mrs P)

without bothering with any actual research (hey, if actual journalists don't why whould I? :) )Are hugs 'banned', or is that the sensationalised version of it being suggested not to? I know as part of my coaching accreditation a large component is in dealing harassment, and how to protect both the kids you're teaching AND yourself. Because it is a contact sport with a good likelihood of kids getting banged up and having a little tear, it was really cautioned against anything like hugging because although it is innocent it could be perceived as otherwise.baa baa non-specified-ethnicity sheep have you any wool?yes non-gender-specific-titled person, yes non-gender-specific-titled person, 3 bags full....catchy ;-)

Eenie meenie minie moe.....Baa baa black....now its humpty dumpty.....and little miss muppet.....besides other correctings beggs the question whats next to be changed. .But the person you quoted mrs P..reminded me of a story i read many years ago.....which was where a hospital in a 3 world country...had babies that were sick n dying....and late a nite a cleaning lady would stop and pick up the last baby just as she was a bout to finish your shift would give the baby a cuddle and say soothing words......with out the Drs n nursing staff's knowledge......it was only when they found out what the cleanning lady use to do....that they were amazed...as this baby grew stronger each day and eventually survied.....whilst the other few babies in the same ward died.....hmmm it goes to show that the human touch is vital for survival....I have always said to my kids..hugs n kisses can help with blues....

Yep...the reason I don't want to work in childcare in Australia..I was getting into trouble for giving a kiss on the forehead to the babies. one lil  6 month old babygirl  ..I called her Ella bella..she would give me the biggest smiles everytime I called her that....Caring for the 0-1 yr olds ..You are so much a second mother to them..If they are happy, said, or hurt themelves..you just want to be there for them..Be that second mother..So I no longer want to work in childcare centres..No hugs or kisses and too much  priority is on paper work....Japan's International schools you still can hug and kiss the kids..and even give them time out for being naughty. I miss that.....sighhhhhhhhh..not giving the time out part though..lol..you know what I mean.   Hugs and kisses to all the beautiful children out there   lovingly sweetpetite41 xoxoxoxooxoxxo

I copied part of one of LRE's post from his thread @ http://www.redhotpie.com.au/Adult-Forums/dysfuntion-drugs-25208"Take responsibility for your own joy. Tell your partners what you want. Demand real sex education for your kids. Be the orgasmic change you wish to see in the world."The part that we'd like to start with here is 'real sex education for your kids' which we would hope would lead to that 'orgasmic change' we'd like to see in the world... doesn't it make sense that we teach our young ones about intimacy and sex with and without the intimacy and the sex lolol, rather than just teaching them denial? Also, aren't they making the same mistake that parents often make where the kids end up rebelling... hmmm...Following Trishl's example, thnx Trishl... I would also like to say thank you for those shared on RHP!Hugs RHPers

Oh my MadameMilfy!... and thus we perpetuate the cycle... kids need to learn that certain touching is healthy! If only we saw as much effort put into prevention of violence!!! Sydneyboy.... going by trishl's post and what I heard on the radio... banned :-( I feel terrible to think of the many that suffer incidently because of the few. Luvved your rhyme, it was those non-gender-specific-titled terms in the rhyme that made me wonder about that non-specified-ethnicity sheep... lolol Heymumma... we heard about Little Miss Muppet making friends with the spider on the radio too... perhaps they're trying to compensate for the lack of hugging? Thank you so much for sharing that story. It reminds me of many stories I've read over the years, some on studies relating to touch for orphans etc, something that fascinates me as a foster-child that received very little comfort thru her youth to leave an adult that has major problems relating to adults... except on a sexual level... Beautiful Sweet... I sympathise! I am so touchy, feely and kiss my grandson on the head endlessly and give him many hugs when he's in the mood lol, he is such a boy but I am the one he comes to for comfort after his mother (Big Hugs all round)

Anyone living in a world with no hugs just seems soooo depressing...Hugs are like smiles, they are universal in any language and yep... even in any color or race..   What happened to "love thy neighbour"..????   And as far as the kiddy songs etc go... dont be surprised if the next one on the hit list is "the old woman who swallowed a fly"...or even "this is the house that Jack built" It might be looked at as cruelty to animals..??? dam shame "IF" WE EVER had to live and teach our kids not to use their imagination skills until they were... ??? WELL-BALANCED ??? adults !!      Gee im so glad that i lived in an time where hugs n kisses were common place... just like spin the bottle etc.. Its how we learnt things that our parents were too embarrassed to talk about.. AND ... yes when we did get caught playing spin the bottle... we did get "shamed".. and we all talked about the hidings we got from our parents at school the next day..haha.. but a comforting hug always made things feel that bit better..and it never stopped us playing, we just found better locations lol..   and bugger me dead... we all turned out to be beautiful respectable people..and yep... even well balanced.   KIDS ARE ONLY KIDS FOR SO LONG.. IF THEY ARE LOVED, HAPPY, HEALTHY..AND SHOWN AFFECTION, AND ENCOURAGED TO USE THEIR IMAGINATION TO ITS FULLEST ... AND YET TOLD THE TRUTH ABOUT ANY SUBJECT THAT THEY INQUIRE ABOUT.. surely our kids will be better off than wrapping them..(and the stories and songs) in cotton wool...surely.???    I remember asking for advice from my dad about telling my girls about death.. do i tell em that the person is in the coffin?? My dad said..." The imagination is usually far worse than the truth"... So from that i have always told my girls the truth about any subject..         - Y -

This sort of crap really gets my goat. Once again the vocal minority have causd a massive kneejerk reaction resulting in PC being completely bastardised.  Sure some, bad stuff has happened in the past between adults who should have known better and the younger generation who don't know any better, but seriously.  Strike another blow for the wowsers in our community who believe that people are unable to manage themselves, their kids and those around them, therefore those in positions of power must manage it for them! The same thing happened a few years back at my daughters (private) school.  All hugs were banned, even those between students, even where they were the same sex.BAH!Roll on Phuket holiday, I need a dose of unadulterated, not over policed life.Mr. FF

Maplesyrup_42... thnx, everything you said made sense to me. Your father gives wise advice "The imagination is usually far worse than the truth". Mikle... that was an entertainingly accurate post and your closing line totally hit the spot! Avoiding the news is a suggestion I'd like to add lol. Litle_red_engin... a good question I thought. It's hard to say which is more likely isn't it. We are a wild and sunburnt country that is slowly losing our spirit... Funfactory60... just quietly, we are constantly amazed by the powers that be. Enjoy your holiday! Huge hugs all... Mrs P

I'll be more impressed with decisions made by 'the powers that be' for our children... when they install recommended seatbelts into school buses!Huge group hug allMrs Peachy PS: I was concerned that, as my partner, Mr Peachy might feel out of the loop in the forums, considering the amount of time I spend in here but I have now ascertained this is not the case and just need to make sure 'I' am giving him enough attention hahahahahaha.

*start rant* When we stop listening to the American psychobabble where they are always litigating and screwing with each other because they don't want to work for anything. When we stop with the coddling and 'no smacking' children rule...when we stop trying to make the world so soft that every child is completely emotionless and unadjusted that they can't function in society...then we might have a chance...but until the 'red pen is agressive' is withdrawn from schools and teachers can actually start disciplining children for being little turds...we've got no hope. As a child I was shit scared of getting into trouble, not because I was a goody two shoes, but because my teacher or the cops would get stuck into me, and discipline me as they saw fit...and then when I got home, my parents would add to the previous ass kicking I'd received...The whole politically correct rant that people carry on with did nothing to help the youth of today. If anything, we've made this country full idiots. *end rant*
