Not sure if I should be telling this story, but here goes:.I work with a new doctor, who came up with the most brilliant idea to save us all from massive hangovers after last Friday's work Christmas Party. She had booked a hotel room, collected a bunch of IV saline bags from the wards and offered to administer fluids to whomever was game. (Five people ended up going). Some people reported they felt much better the next day than the thought they would have, other said they couldn't tell..Now let's assume you don't have access to a solution like this: Before you go to bed have two glasses of water and two nurofen. It really does work.As for the hangover: I went past McDonalds on the way to work the next day. I'm sure it helped..And never drink on an empty stomach, it makes a hangover much worse. Also consider getting a bottle of Thiamine (VitB1) from your chemist and pop a few of those before you go out. (I forgot this time, damnit!).

Like the ladies said... water and lots of it. Also, for me, a greasy bacon and egg sandwich plus a can of coke... dunno why but it always seems to do the trick. - Posted from rhpmobile

Water: Drink... liots of it, before, during and after. It helps with rehydration which is what causes a lot of the problems apparently. . I like to have a shower to freshen up too. . And I like soluble panadol for a quick acting pain reliever for the head and body aches. It has the added benefit of making me sleepy... so I can get that... . ... Sleep. Lots of that too...Get better soon won't you!

That would make sense coke (flat coke) is electrolyte replacement, essential when hungover particularly if you've vomited, water for rehydration and the whiskey to raise your blood alcohol level again! ;)

What if the doc administered alcohol direct via the IV drip? It would leave a lot more room for food and no need to buy lots of overpriced grog. Just a thought 🍸 - Posted from rhpmobile

Don't get too drunk in the first place!! Don't drink the cheap stuff!! I've heard a way of reducing hangover effects is to drink a couple of glasses of water and have some bread before going to bed. The morning after, nothing works better than a Macca's thick shake and a bit of grease. I find strawberry is the most palatable after a night of drinking. I guess it's the fat content or something that helps to settle the stomach. Hot chips, and an ice cold bottle of coke work too. Also, if you can keep it down, some Berocca.

OK OK... I know that's simplicity. And I can't talk, had my share of bad head and room spins when I was younger, but I learnt to know when enough is enough.. True about plenty of water, flushes out the kidneys , those poor things we abuse.. Vegemite had B1, so that's a good thing.. Mind you, I just got home from drinks with clients, so I'm a happy lil vegemite...

During the bender if you can, but definitely before you go to bed. A good 2-3 glasses, if you end up peeing then have some more after that.

Whilst the congeners and tannins in some drinks will add to the effect, it's really down to the amount of alcohol that you have consumed. If you have access to an oxy-viva, pure oxygen helps to clear the head, lots of water as previous posts have stated will help flush the kidneys, and a large enough dose of time will do the trick!

Thank's to all for those suggestions. Looks like the most effective remedy would be to make up a solution of water, strawberry malted milk and coke, then crush some Nurofen and VitB1 up with a dash of hydrolyte powder and mix it all together, then scoff a greasy bacon egg and chip roll on my way to break into a hospital so I can drip feed the solution to me via an IV before going to sleep for a week but not before I smear myself with dog shit (from a hairy dog) and knock myself about with a hammer! It's either that or I just keep on drinking (but not the cheap stuff). Hmmm... decisions, decisions..

Quoting 'JayJay_66' With 2 soluble Panadol, a berocca and a sachet of hydralyte.. To the ol' Neptune Trident Hangover-Busta™. As King of the Sea, I know the importance of maintaining your salts, which is why before bed, Neptune_Drift recommends this potion: - 1 x vitamins (Berrocca)- 1 x paracetamol (Panadol - 2 x if you feel the onset of a particularly bad case of the Pluto Pound)- 1 x antacid (Mylanta) washed down with 1 x bottle of sports drink (Powerade). Of course, before meeting with Morpheus Neptune_Drift also recommends the company of a nubile maenead(s) and/or satyr(s) for a spot of sloppy, messy, chaotic Bacchanalian debauchery. Sure, you probably don't need to lose any more fluids at this stage and that will probably undo some of your good work, but, eh, fuck it. YOLO, amirite*? N_D * Fuck you, Proserpina.

On account that I kept on falling over when I tried to stand up, and my head felt like it was splitting open if I got more than 3 feet off the ground, I decided (and thank you for all the suggestions) that the most commonly occurring and readily available item (due to my current state of immobility) was simply good old water (and Nurofen plus). So I drank heaps of it and slept and for 16 hours and am now somewhat better. An anticlimax I guess but FARK was I in hell for 3 days! Must be getting old as that usually does not happen. Have taken some of those remedies on board ('cept perhaps Greeny's) and will take the required precautions in preparation for the next bender which is certain to come. Cheers to all and Merry XXX-mas! Obi1kenietzsche

That'll help and if not water at least lemon squash, even with bitters in between drinks can save you. But Obi, You must have been telling some good stories to get yourself into that much trouble. Hiding under the blankets for a couple of days, aint gonna save you. Sooner or later you are going to have to face the music. No one here can really save you, but sure this all may help you feel a bit better. Mado

Every third alcoholic drink you buy/pour have a glass of water. Then have 2 glasses of water before bed, another when you wake up and hopefully you'll be functioning ok by then. I haven't had a serious drinking session for well over a year now so the above might not even work for me any more. But it served me well for the better part of a decade
