Do you have instant posting rights? I know that for new people their comments don't appear for a number of hours... And unfortunately by then the conversation has moved on. It's not that anyone is ignoring you... It's just people with instant rights have a can have an instant conversation. Keep posting!!! 😀

It happens to us all.I thought gosh my comments were pretty good, yet I felt like in invisible woman. When I first came on RHP. I was shot down in flames more times than I care to count. Also the regulars often let you ease on in before jumping on your posts. Give you time to get the feel of it.Sometimes we can take the gloves of and thats a bit daunting for a new person. If you look back you will see that all of the regulars at some time, have had a right tiff over different subjects. Like any group of people, we develop a respect or even a dislike for what people say on here.I read your posts, I find them interesting so keep at it.there are hundreds of people that read the forum, some not even members of RHP as you can read them without even going into RHP.People will love you, hate you, or a bit of both.I write because yes, I have an ego, love the attention and also because I learn to think a about my views and have changed them over time after learning from the people on here who are so generous to show themselves.welcome to the sand pit

When you're the OP you'll get direct comments, when you quote what someone-else has said and leave it open for reply you'll get comments but post which doesn't either have a question with in it or is more of a statement than anything-else is more than likely going to not get quoted or commented on.Some of the banter that is going on is between posters who are IRL friends. There's no popularity contest going on, it's just that through forums instead of messaging lurkers/readers are voyeurs of other people's friendships. I don't think people who have developed friendships online need to hide them.I have always loved forums, and have never let the fact that I'm not a regular poster somewhere put me off posting - if I feel what I have to say is relevant or of postential use to someone - nor do I ever expect anyone to really to anything but a thread I've started. Lurkers or fringe-dwellers - if you have something to say - say it! And if you want someone to comment on what you said with reference someone-else's post with a question or end your comment with 'I'd like to hear what others think about this'.

Howdy neighbor! *waves hello*Welcome to the forums.I am so glad you posted this Topic as I was talking to a friend this morning on this exact topic and how they feel intimidated by regulars who post.I understand exactly how you feel. When I first started posting in the forums I feel the exact same. It's just like walking into a room and not knowing a soul.It is quite scary. Some of the people who post regualrly do know or have met others in Real Life and there is a lot of banter that goes between posters, which of course would make a new person uncomfortable or at ease. Please don't let that stop you from posting.Keep on Posting.FOXY

And welcome! Yes, the instant posting that some of us have has a lot to do with it. But don't despair. When I joined a year ago, I wasn't exactly welcomed either and accused by some of being the alter ego of male forum poster. Keep up the posts!

Its called the long introduction, you need to be in the subject, sometimes a bit contrary to either the OP or the direction the subject matter is going in order to be noticed. Remember also it is the written word is your only introduction, you miss all the physical cues you get on a face to face for instance. Yes it is daunting, but I think you need to give something of yourself to get accepted in any forum. I do it for my own reasons and I also like to help if possible, so occasionally tell the world at large a problem. The beauty of forums is the diversity of the people involved, you learn about your self, but above all balance it with fun as some the stuff is the work of genius.

hi seizethemoment, i'm new to contributing to the forums, though have been reading them since mr funky & I joined rhp. when you follow the forums you can see the groups of friends amongst the regulars & recognise those who know each other off site but I have felt everybody is made welcome to post comments & join the members who regularly use this part of rhp. many times I have had posts left uncommented by the forum members & it did concern me initially that I was saying the 'wrong' thing or had put an unpopular view into the mix but I do try & take care with what I write & I stand by what I have posted. I don't post to see my name in print, I genuinely do have an opinion & want to add to the conversation though at times do get carried away when I become too 'passionate' about a topic ... i'm sure there are people who probably would prefer I did keep my comments to myself, but I have also had members send messages to our profile commenting on various threads we have added to & it is a nice surprise when these are received on top of any replies posted against what we have written on the thread. keep posting op, there are some great topics which get posted & it is interesting to see the different opinions from so many people. have fun :)

I find it is like making new friends...It takes a while to get to know everyone and for them to get to know you.I lurked for a while before actually posting in the forums so that when I actually did I felt like I was already a part of the regulars because I was so familiar with them but it is very easy to forget that they had no idea who I was.My first few posts never got referred to, even though I thought some comments I made were worthy, but I kept on at it.Now, I am not one of the well known posters but I feel I have my niche and if I have something valid to say - that hasn't already been said - then I am comfortable to jump in.

I would definitely tend to agree with you. Some days I do like to read but mainly the posts where there are lots of different people commenting as it does seem that for the regular posters, every forum post needs to have their comment on it. Often it is quite good advice but when you read the same people saying the same things, makes the forums lose their appeal.Often I won't post because I don't feel like I need to comment on everything or echo something that someone already has said. ONly when I can add a different point of view do I like to indulge.

I dont post so people can acknowledge me often I think am invisible but I just sometime want to have an input. I get in moods where I post quite a few topics, some are well received some fade away.Feel free to say whatever you like. I find it interesting when people say hi to Newbies I also find it interesting when the OP feels they have to respond individually to each response.I often wish more people would step on in and open up about their experiences the more the merrier. It also lets us know were not just all here talking to the same people.

A lot of people will read what you have said and nod quietly to themselves in agreement ... limited response is not necessarily a bad thing ? If you cough up something everyone disagrees with there will be no shortage of 'opinions' coming forth.

I joined about 18 months ago and have met many regular forum posters IRL,mainly at meet and greets. It is a great way to feel connectd to what is a very diverse group of open minded people.I have had conversations with RHP friends about subjects that I would never dream of broaching with anyone else that I know. But it is a bit like turning up at a party and trying to join in a conversation, just join.I am a self confessed forum tragic, sometimes I take a break, but just like crack, the forums draw me back....Foxy and I regularly meet for coffee or a drink and you and anyone else for that matter is welcome to join us...Foxy likes to tell everyone we discuss Chaos theory but she tells big fibs, sly ol' fox

You have to be deemed worthy by the mods to get instant posting rights... Sometimes they even threaten to take it away when you don't play nice. The forum used to be a very outrageous place and many characters and risqué topics... Hence the powers that be decided that you needed to prove that you were not a trouble maker before giving you instant posting rights. That may take a few months... Although if you post a lot they make get sick of reviewing your comments and give you instant posting rights. This means that even if you may see your comment on a thread, everyone else will not be able to see if for a few hours or even sometimes a day before it appears ... So it appears that people are ignoring you but it isn't true. You will notice when a whole heap of responses are approved as they tend to do it a few times a day and approve in bulk. I also agree that controversial or outrageous comments will get a response more so than others. :D

I also agree that controversial or outrageous comments will get a response more so than others. :D and I know I've told this story before... When I first joined RHP, ALL posts and threads were moderated. A few years ago, not too long before before you joined the site Meeka, RHP updated the overall site, made the forums Nation based rather than State based and gave EVERYONE immediate posting including threads. (I feel like I'm reading Genesis! Haha!) That was so much fun for a while. Too many people took advantage of it though (posting contact details and vilification etc) and slowly but surely those prvileges were whittled down. Threads were no longer instant, newcomers no longer had instant posting, blah blah blah. Here we are now with the privileged few. On the flipside, not only can instant posting taken away but the ability to post at all can be as well. . We in the forums asked for guidelines about what was ok and not to post and RHP eventually posted guidelines, which were ignored or ridiculed until they were put aside on the side tab and sank into RHP lore. And so a new generation of the RHP forums moves along with a wide selection of posters from the very first days of the site, from before the State forums were a twinking in the eye of the Site Founders, to the existence of the State forums where many posters with wordy opinions were attracted lol (think me), to the National forums which has attracted more posters than ever before. + It is a bit bloody confusing that people can see their posts and not know they haven't actually been posted. Btw, hate mail sucks!!! . On topic Sieze, I get a bit shy about approaching people most of the time.
