Meditation, there are'nt many things that I am good at

March 19 2014

but meditation is one.I saw an interview with the music producer Richard Simmons recently where he said that he had discovered that meditation had helped him with his drug addiction and he was actively encouraging people to meditate......I think that it is such a simple thing to do and can help people enormously who are suffering from depression or addiction. Some people have told me that they have tried but failed because the thoughts keep on coming, but if you start with just sitting in a quiet place, slow your breathing and let the thoughts just drift away it will help.Don't attempt more than a couple of minutes to start with and do perservere, it will get easier. There are many groups that you can join and people who can provide instruction. Meditation is not a religious thing although it is practiced in some religions. If you are someone who practices meditation perhaps you would like to share your experience. xx Q

I don't mediate really, although I have attended a class or two. Sometimes I try the techniques when I can't sleep at night. I also like to take a time out and go either to the beach or somewhere surrounded by trees and do a little bit of meditation. Especially with the sun on my face or hearing the wind in the trees, etc. Makes me smile. I have got into yoga lately too and I find that almost like meditation, well in the fact that I am totally focussed on my body and how it feels with little or no real thoughts about anything else. xx

Allowing your mind to still and let all worries drop away, even for a little while would be enormously beneficial I think. Of course it isn't so easy to do at times.

Since my youngest memories, meditaion has never resonated with me Q. My tension & hyper awareness is paramount, and I just don't like having my eyes closed. I have been finding Tai Chi an excellent form of meditation lately though, having done it like twice lol. The smooth flowing works for me... :-)

I meditate every single day, sometimes only for a min or two, but once a week I like to connect for at least an hr. for me, its about many things, relaxing, letting things go and connecting with things many people don't like to think about for my religious purposes lol The best and most terrifying experience, was meditating and seeing my grandfather cross over, then having it confirmed by family an hr or so later. where those with busy minds go awry, is that they need to just focus and keep the mind busy still, but in a different way, I find the best meditation for this, focusing on a garden in your mind, walking up the path too it, in the garden gate, walking around it, feeling the texture in your mind, the smells, the wind etc. it means that you don't have the stress of thinking about emptying your mind, its just refocused and kept busy in a relaxing manner..

Meditation takes many forms . Shutting out the internal "noise" is difficult for most of us , at the best of times . Something as simple as mowing the lawn can be a Meditation . The noise of the lawn mower shuts out all other noise . The concentration of doing a perfect job . The satisfaction once finished . Yes , work can be a Meditation ! I'm lucky . I surf . Sitting in the water with dolphins for company , not talking to others , harnessing Mother Nature and carving up the waves . Works for me ! I love to cook . It's another form of Meditation . Meditation doesn't have to involve sitting in silence in the Lotus Position . Meditation is about focussing on something positive , without distraction & most of us already do it , in one form or another . Being aware of this can make it beneficial for us . The first one is very simple and everyone can do it.....just take deep breath in and out whenever I begin to feel sad, or stressed, or angry, or frustrated. It's a mind and temper calming meditation this one and it works for me. The second one is a little harder as it requires a quiet environment and proper sitting position. It's a meditating practice where I'm required to sit still and against the wall, stretch out my arms and legs, close my eyes and concentrate only on the sounds surround me. When I can differentiate what sort of sounds I'm hearing, then it means that my mind is not wandering away without control. The aim of this practice is to try and relax my mind and calm my soul. The result of this practice is incredible as I can always relax and see things better at the end of meditating :-) Perhaps we could organise a group mediation for those who are currently practising, and/or are interested in meditation to come together and meditate :-) - Posted from rhpmobile

I struggled for many years to be able to empty my mind and meditate. Being an avid yoga devotee for decades it was always elusive to me, even through relaxation at the end of yoga my mind couldn't still itself. I found that through slow acceptance of single minded calming tasks like gardening or painting where you lose yourself into the moment that I have slowly developed the skills whereby I am able to completely zone out. Visualisations where key for me, as it centred my busy buzzy brain and gave it things to think about apart from what bills needed paying and what I needed to get out of the freezer for dinner. (For example, breathing colours, not only chakras but in breathe and out breathe through each leg made them feel as if they were gravitating, an amazing feeling, I used Australian Indigenous Red & Yellow - better than any drug I can assure you) I can now sit and lose an hour without visualisation or knowledge of time passing. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Baby steps though, agree Q. I don't know what that is Mado, but I doubt it..... Can you tell me more?

Basically it is a series of conscious steps to take yourself into a deep form of relaxation, deeper than sleeping does. It takes you to the conscious, past the sub conscious and you are just down in there with your inner self, you can reason to things alone without distractions, noises disappear, no arguments, no stories trying to persuade, just you and your truth. You can change things and you can rest with hours worth of sleep in just a few minutes. You can find true meanings and find questions.

Is actually an advanced meditation technique.....scientists have apparently studied yogis in deep meditative states and found that their metabolisms had slowed to a state similar to a hibernating bear.....yeah I know there is a Yogi bear joke in there....but its true...:-) :-) xxQ

Over the past 5 months I've been doing a lot of work with gratitude & meditation... I can sit and meditate - not for too long though as my mind walks away! Lol! But I also get meditation from my bike riding, running & other physical activity... I find it funny that some ppl think meditation is only for hippies, spiritual ppl, or the religious - but it's for anyone who wants to try!!!

I can't remember who it was. A lady and I had been sent to get help when I was younger. It was partly because of wetting the bed, mainly because it was believed to be something I needed to help with the sexual abuse matter I was involved with, quite a story all that. So I was hypnotised by this lady who helped me bring out things buried and to stop me wetting the bed. It worked and she taught me to self hypnotise myself so that I could fix things that worried me, help myself to understand things by looking for questions instead of answers. (the most amazing part with it all) I think it is so easy anyone could learn it, though I guess you have to believe it is happening for it to happen, so easy for me, I had reason to want to learn it. Our sub conscious can make all sorts of things difficult, it's that I suppose is what we have to be able to overcome and deny it's interruptions.

I have done many Spiritual Guided Meditations, where you are led on a journey into yourself. I find these much easier to do as it helps keep me focused. I can't meditate on my own. I had a great Shaman and we didn't a lot of journeys to discover our power animals, our inner selves and many other things.
