'Modern' or 'Natural' Medication

May 25 2013

Do you have a preference?... I have a lot of thoughts on this topic built up over a long tme. Do tell, I'm rather curious on other people's opinions? What'll you use for a common cold for eg?Home-made chicken soup, Codral... liquid echincea is my stand-by. Apply it to the tongue neat if you want a numb tongue LOL. How far have we wandered from Mother Nature? Share your thoughts if you feel inclined lol, I'd, appreciate it. Peachiness

Teatree for antiseptic, arnica for trauma, tinctures etc for preventative measures.   But when it comes to cures, I'm western all the way.   Balance is good.

I always use natural as the first line of defence. Most times I'm successful but if not I dive into the chemist. Common cold: Up to 10g vit C per day Olive leaf extract Garlic and cheese melted under griller Lemon and honey tea Vics vapor rub on chest and foot soles Vaporise tea tree oil That's about it. CBF

If it comes in pill-form (or capsule, wafer, powder, liquid, herb) I'll take it.

For a cold, a caring and pampering friend, a box of super soft tissues, a warm bed and lots of hugs.

Plus I will also add injection, administered by a medical professional, not old mate down the road. Although my partner stabs me with B12 every couple of months and I have had friends give me a flu shot in the past.Quoting 'Ms_Devious' If it comes in pill-form (or capsule, wafer, powder, liquid, herb) I'll take it.

Nothing "cures" a common cold better than time, I treat the symptoms such as a runny nose and rest Being a Medical Scientist I have to be practically dying to go to the Dr, moat of the time they cant help, I would tend to get my blood taken at work and test it myself to determine viral or bacterial infection Modern medicine does have its place for pain management and for serious conditions and things like chemotherapy :-)- Posted from rhpmobile

There is no cure so all the medication from the chemist will do nothing at all except make you feel as if you are doing some good. I will drink lemon juice, warm water and honey five or six times a day when I have a cold or the flu. Mother Nature knows what she is about and that is why citrus fruit ripen at this time of the year. For me it is all about balance. I only go to the doctor when necessary andNEVER for a flu or cold. I have taken antibiotics possibly four times in my life but then when I boosted my immunisation against whooping cough a few years ago... Ended up with it!- Posted from rhpmobile

you mean as a cure? or are you referring to symptom management?   Unless I have been under a rock all my life there is no cure for the common cold, ALL viruses of this group and there are over a hundred as far as I am aware are fairly harmless.   Symptom management, Well we all know men are such pussies when they have a cold so I go for panadol or codral and in a week I am better.   I get my shots for flu because I can't afford to be an infectious agent in my job.   I'm not a big fan of "natural" remedies but as long as its not bad for you I don't give a fuck. Remember If you are taking prescribed medication some of the "natural" medications can react with them badly...   Mike

I gave up smoking 10 years ago.....haven't had a cold since... not eve a sore throat. prior to giving up I was prone to just about every bug that came along. oh and we grew up with a crazy alternate hippy wanna be mother...it was 'tofu this' goats milk that' and all sort of craziness....never made a scrap of difference, we all had the same childhood illnesses the others had...
