I really like dark movies that show seedier side of life and one of these is Winters Bone which has Jennifer Lawrence in it. I like the message of resilience and determination for survival. Also alone the same lines is Animal Kingdom, dark as well. Great performance by Jackie Weaver about the ties that bind family. For pure entertainment I love lots of New Zealand movies which have that quirky element in them such as Hunt For The Widerpeople, Boy, Eagle Vs Shark, Whale Rider and What we do in the Shadows. Love stories - I don't like cliche movies ,like stuff like The Piano, Bridges of Madison County, Eyes wide Shut, Candy and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (mainly for the cast JAVIER BARDEM so hot!)

The message I got from it (besides the obvious drugs are bad message) was how you can have everything but get too greedy and complacent and you can quickly lose it all again. That's something you see everyday in everything. Often the more you have the more you want and so you're never satisfied. Another one I like is "one hour photo" which starred Robin Williams. To me the movie was even more intense because I was waiting for him to crack a joke and he never did. The only message I got from it was how an abusive childhood can distort your view of the world even the little things, but I mainly remember the quiet intensity of Robin Williams character - Posted from rhpmobile

It is kind of funny I just replied to your comment on my thread with a post that would have been ideal here. I asked if you remembered the story of the butterfly in the Will Smith movie, I am Legend. It is told by his daughter in the movie as the illness is falling upon mankind and they are driving toward the 'dock'? The story of the Monarch butterfly that makes it's way in small steps toward the final destination (Mexico) and then a special one is bred that makes the journey all the way back in one leap. For more specific detail, google, lol. But the butterfly tattoo on the woman is the deciding factor that has him protect her in the final scenes and allows the transfer of the necessary serum that presumably will save mankind. Love that. As a sixteen year old just getting into motorcycles it made a big impression. I'm still paying for a misspent youth.

We didn't make it past the first few minutes of 50 Shades, very similar to my experience of trying to read the book. I didn't 'feel' it. Peachy

Movies are just bits of entertainment and I try not to read too much into them. I either like them or I don't. I stick with comedies mainly....I go to movies to be entertained, not educated. - Posted from rhpmobile

Love this movie, memories of it somewhat haunted my memories over the years after watching it as a child. The haunting loneliness of the house in the snow where we heard the wolves howling out in the wild. The sadness of the search that ended so heartbreakingly. We watched it a few years ago to refresh my memory. I think I saw it at the drive-ins originally. Peachy memories...

Quoting 'inspirit'Actually got roped into watching 50 shades last night.... Hahahahaha one of, if not the worst movie I've ever seen. 2 beige cubes a few feet apart on a table would have more sexual chemistry than those two. I felt more sexual tension from Edward and 1-Expression Bella. Moral of the story: just telling us a story is sexy, doesn't make it so. I saw Passengers, Allied and Assassins Creed recently, enjoyed them all. Allied _will_ make you teary though. (not really "moral of the story" movies to me though) (In Allied, Brad Pitt looked like Jon Voight IMO, which made his marriage split make even more sense). Allied goes number 1, Passengers number 2, Assassins Creed 3 because you need to be a fan of the game. Quoting 'Qefenta1' Persuasion ...based on the Jane Austen novel of the same name..Moral of the story..follow your heart, don't listen to others. Q, I know it's not what you meant, but those sorts of 'take home messages' from movies gives me images like Mengele, Mobuto Ses Seko and Pauline Nyiramasuhuko and co all sitting around with their Jane Austen :)

The Butterly Effect: wondering "what if" will stop you from living in the present. Every decision we make has a flow on effect. Make the best of the outcome and try not to live with regret. Dead Poets Society: simple Carpe Diem - Seize The Day. Footloose: questioning rules and sometimes working for change allows us to evolve. Especially if those rules oppress others. The Color Purple: so many in here! The power of friendship - how strong bonds allow us to find ourselves, sharing stories and gaining wisdom from people we trust and admire. Seeking refuge in one another. The power of your voice - although it's risky, standing up for yourself is the only way to live. And that gender and sexuality aren't as clear cut - that men and women aren't as simple as the gender they were born with.

@S Hey I liked trashy 50 Shades of Grey. I think the movie was really well done after the low expectations I had for it. For me it was pretty romantic, even though the dude seems really douchy and someone hard to get close to. And that torture room omg... mixed emotions. Yeah yeah bag me out for it - I don't care haha I liked twisty, clever Allied a lot more than Passengers. Passengers was very aesthetically pleasing. What eye candy! The main part I liked about Passengers was his journey living alone, not by choice. An enjoyable movie but predictable. Waiting for Collateral Beauty to come out - Posted from rhpmobile
