Mr & Mrs Smith would like to get a room.

May 05 2014

My guess is that a small but significant proportion of hotel/motel bookings are solely for the purpose of men & women having a clean safe place to get their kit off and get jiggy...especially those may be married to someone else! This raises some questions...I'm sure the accommodation industry is well aware of this demographic. I'm wondering how they perceive it as revenue is revenue and they are there to provide a service as part of their livelihood.I wonder how they respect Mr & Mrs Smith's privacy & discretion, given that they often like to have a credit card number as a form of deposit. Will they take cash and just use the C/C as a security?I'm sure there are people here who know a bit about this all works. Please shed a little light on this matter if you will.

I've paid for hotels for 1 night yet only spent 30 minutes there in the arvo having a quick f**k!!! Would of been far cheaper if I was able to pay for my room by the hour instead of the day!

From traveling for work I know that cash can be used rather than a credit card for a security deposit but it's generally more than the credit card requirement. If you walk in and book you can always pay cash. Not sure how that would work booking over the phone though. - Posted from rhpmobile

Ask if they do day rates? I am aware of some places that will give a half rate for a 3-4hr visit provided they have access to their cleaners outside of the usual 7a- midday cleaning cycle. Can't hurt to ask I say! - Posted from rhpmobile

You've only got to worry about who reads your statements. As if the biller gives a hoot where the income comes from.

As an a accommodation owner we do to a degree, give a hoot. Cash is fine usually as long as there is a Credit Card for a security swipe.

Generally over the phone you need to give a Credit Card, you can ask that they don't process it, that you will be paying cash on arrival.

I have a pre-paid C/C which is convenient, it stops some of the less scrupulous from auto renewals!

security, its all about the tax department so nothing can be paid under the counter.......lol. Cash would be so easy....but then the tax department could miss out. I know in my city Saarbruecken there is a Stundenhotel....."Hour" Hotel......used by many.

if as a cheating partner would you have a separate credit card for such expenses so the partner doesn't find out. Have the bill sent elsewhere or online?

Doesn't affairs happen often through work, or during 'work'? Would they use a buisness cc? If your partner sleep out, I'm sure there is a reason/excuse for it. Unless it happnes during the day of cause. - Posted from rhpmobile

Hi it is for security. It has very little to do with the Tax department, it would be great to keep the Govt's share as well as what's yours. The guest can use the phone, minibar or order room service, depending on what's available. If they pay cash they can just walk out owing the money. Despite notices, people still want to smoke in rooms. By leaving a Credit card they know they will be charged an extra cleaning fee. It also stops the light fingered from removing items.

I'm assuming those married and meeting "liaisons" in motels for a little extra jig-a-jig on the side, they would be that sneaky and manipulative, they would con the other to use their credit card or pay 1/2 cash towards the motel to the other or NOT pay anything at all- get the other to pay for it, so they don't get caught out by their partner..It would show up on statements if they used the family C/C?? YEAH??? Then there would be those who (as ShyPrincess said) purchase ones at a supermarket without their partner knowing. I agree with Smilingwithfun, I'm under the impression that MOtels/Hotels use C/Cs for security reasons as well. For the very same examples he gave as well...If nothing is used in the rooms then the card is NOT used IF cash is paid?? yeah?? It does not surprise me tho, that 'some' people would use their "work" C/C for accommodation (when traveling), that they also would invite liaisons to stay with them - married or not....just sayin. I know as I have received hundreds of emails saying "I'm in town for the night staying at such and such hotel for work" As for the accommodation, I believe they do respect peoples privacy when bookings are made...I mean they can't ask questions when rooms are booked and what for - under the Privacy Act they can't. So if Mr&Ms Smith booked a room, reception have no right to ask who they really are or what they have made a booking for - that's invasion of peoples privacy. As long as the room is paid for in one way or other, they have to respect peoples privacy, it would be under their Policy and Procedures and they would have processes in place, unless of course a murder was to happen...now that's a different matter for Police Investigations unit, as personal information would have to be released and provided. When booking motel rooms, I am under the impression that reception always ask "How are you paying by cash or credit card?" If cash paid, that they would explain why they need a C/C for holding purposes and why...yeah? So therefor, they would have to be some sort of procedures, they follow when customers are paying for cash or credit card. I have to ask OP, cause I am curious...I noticed you are married on your profile. Are you planning to meet others some how in Motel/Hotels without your partner knowing, so it does not show up on statements and how to go about it?? Only curious that is why I asked, I want to know as well how they do it. Foxy

Assuming if a family credit card was used, say in both names and the wife/Husband/partner rang to make an inquiry cause it was on a statement, I am guessing the only information the reception can provide is the date the card was used and nothing else? I'm only assuming they have to protect their customers privacy (meaning the one who used the room) even if the booking was under another name. They can only provide what the credit card was for...nothing else. Unless the partner them self is manipulative and says other things to get information from the receptionist?? However I still don't think they can provide any more information under the privacy Act other than credit card and what used for. Yes Jack, the accommodation is providing a service to customers...it's just that accommodation/room/stay and when making bookings normally a contract is signed outlining rules and regulations of the room. I seriously doubt that the staff of these establishments or their owners would honestly give a rats fat arse...as long as the money is good. There would be so many people go through the places like the four seasons etc, that would simply see that faces are just faces after a while. To me it'd be like asking a drunk the next day if he remembers which crowd control threw him out. - Posted from rhpmobile

Foxy I'm not planning to meet anybody just yet...but i would like to ow how to go about it when i get lucky.I have a prepaid but also have used my own C/C for verification purposes...I'm more concerned about Mrs D's reaction to budgetary indiscretions than other indiscretions...after all I do have the magical hall pass...not that I've used it yet!

Sydney has a hotel on Pitt Street (probably more than one) that rents rooms by the hour. Apparently each room is decorated in a different theme. Must have a look one day.

Yes you are pretty much onto it Thanks for your input lots of relevant thoughts and information there. It seems like I'm now seriously looking for a place to meet someone, she's a divorcee wanting a friend with benefits. She can't host as she lives with an elderly Dad.I searched out things and it looks like we need a place with a 24 hour check in so we can meet earlier and leave early too.We plan to get together soon and will be meeting (again) tomorrow for coffee, a chat and maybe shopping for condoms as well...
