NYE in Vic

December 27 2015

Sooo... As my typical NYE is spent sleeping, sometimes watching the Sydney fireworks on TV, I was wondering what other options there may be. The parties listed aren't suitable, so I was considering at least heading into Melbourne (driving) to watch the live fireworks. I've never seen any major New Year's fireworks. Is this advisable, or will it be a traffic and parking nightmare to try to get in (and out) to get a good vantage point? Note I'll be coming from the West. Maybe Williamstown area? Or what other areas are somewhat accessible at this time?

The fireworks are wonderful. But access is incredibly difficult and time consuming. The crowds are always dense and drunk ! Even for the 9 pm set. But it's a have to do ; at least once. I enjoy going early with friends. Set up a picnic on the bank and relax for hours befor the crowd hits! - Posted from rhpmobile

There will be an influx of around 500 000 coming into the city and so you can imagine the traffic. Catch a train in as they will be free we have been told. We are getting out of the city, heading into the countryside where we will enjoy s small, intimate swingers party with friends. - Posted from rhpmobile

Sorry, I've got no idea what I'm doing this New Year's Eve, I certainly can't offer any constructive help for you! Sitting at home with the book, a bottle of wine and the Sydney fireworks coverage might be my night sorted. - Posted from rhpmobile

Mmm was hoping to avoid many of the drunk people too as it's not my thing! I was also thinking of parking a little further away and cycling to the waterfront. Would that help?

Paynesville foreshore. Fireworks drinks band overlooking the water. With 9 and 12 fireworks and a great atmosphere I love it year after year. The tourists make it :) - Posted from rhpmobile
