We still get scam and marketing calls. Typical for the MS Windows scam, we just say that we have a sure fix to help them and will need their details and pass words to fix them, an immediate hang up is the response. Had another recently from a Federal Gov. scam, saying the Gov. had found $3K odd dollars of our money and they needed a bank account to send it back. I told him we have more than enough, infact too much money having just won the Uganda Lottery. Asked for their bank details to give them some and a prompt hang up was the response. Funny when your are the aggressor, they hang up and the phone calls cease for a while

are becoming as bad a nuisance. I would love to give to them all but I only have so much money and I am sick of the guilt trip. I actually had a lady from the heart foundation tell me I was a liar about my personal circumstances at the time, I was soooo pissed off. I ended up writing to their office and telling them what happened and that I will never support them again and when they ring I remind them they were told to take me off their call register. I have found the guide dogs the best to deal with because if you say no, they don't sit there trying to change your mind, they respect that and thank you for your time. I am hardly at home, and am on the do not call register so other than the charities, I don't get a lot of it there. I do get a lot at work and the faxes as well!! The amount of paper and ink going to these nuisances is annoying as well.

Tell them your on the no call database and they are actually breaking the law and can be fined. Thier number has been registered and if it shows again it will Be passes to the police. Usually works for me. They are too afraid. Lol - Posted from rhpmobile

works like a charm... the moment they hear "leave a message", they end the call. Nothing else will ever get rid of them. A friend of mine once made a terrible mistake of donating blood. Couple of weeks later, Red Cross got on his case like there was no tomorrow. He would get 5-6 calls every single day, including Saturdays and Sundays. First they were all fun and jokes, but when it didn't work they got really aggressive, telling him that it was his moral obligation to help the poor dying African kids, and how dare he not to donate immediately. When that didn't work either, he started getting calls asking him for money. "Okay, they said, if you don't want to give the poor kids your precious blood, which you totally should do by the way, we will put you on a payment plan so that you could support us financially. What's your credit card number? - and please, no Amex" He had to install a call blocker app on his mobile phone. When the Red Cross number calls, the app picks up and asks them to leave a message. Oh, and they still keep calling him by the way.

I once got a call on my mobile from one of these places telling me how much they will help me save on my bills yada yada So I said to him hmmmm, I'm a bit busy right now, how about you give me your home number and I will call you when you get home.....he said he wouldn't like that and they aren't allowed....I then said to him well, now you know how I feel - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Traum246' Had another recently from a Federal Gov. scam, saying the Gov. had found $3K odd dollars of our money and they needed a bank account to send it back. I told him we have more than enough, infact too much money having just won the Uganda Lottery. Love it! I've been here ten years and have never had a scam call. I'm missing out! Though I did tell the WWF that if they ever called again to ask for extra money to help the dogs/bears/unicorns I'd stop my monthly donations immediately. They never contacted me again.

We had a funeral insurance firm ring up and hubby told them we didn't need it because he had his palm read and he was going to live till he was154 so he would out live the insurance company . They were stumped for words Then another time a tellimarketer rang and asked for the account manager , hubby told him he died last night ( a lie ) and you know the tellimarketer never missed a beat saying well who will be taking over the account - Posted from rhpmobile

As soon as you answer the phone and there's that 3 second pause before anyone starts talking, you know it's a scam call from India or the Philippines or wherever they are these days. One unlucky lady caught me at a bad time a few weeks ago, and I really let her have it. So much so that she rang back a minute later just to tell me how rude I am. Oops!

The calls I hate are those from private numbers or numbers you don't know who it is and they don't even bother to have the courtesy to leave a voicemail message.

But having worked in a call centre for charities, it surprises me how many people on the 'Do not call' register don't realise that charities are excluded. If a charity calls you, you actually have many options open to you. You call say that you wish to be removed from their call list, they have to comply. You can say that you're happy to give a once off donation and you don't want to be contacted for at least another six months or twelve months, they have to comply. You have lots of rights, you just need to find out what they are and how you want to exercise them.

we act horrified by the possibilty of a problem with our computer, then i ask then to wait while i get the computer... then i put the phone down next to the tv or radio... and go about my business... go back or pick up every few minutes asking them to hold on. Best case scenario.. they are sitting on hold listening to the simpsons on my tv... all this time, they arent able to bother anyone else.

I don't want to be rude to charities, I know they all need what they can get but there are just so many of them now, I am going to be a charity case myself if I keep trying to satisfy them all. It is good to know some of these things because I am sick of feeling guilty for not giving. Thank you for the tips.

For me its been the uncles that died and lived in Ghana and Nigeria lol. The MS scam I wasted their time until they hung up. Charities are cool if you tell them you're already donating the max you can to others - Posted from rhpmobile

God I love telemarketers.... "Hello?? May I speak with Chris please??" "Yes that's me, who's this?" "Chris I'm calling from *company name* and this is a courtesy call, which of I may have a moment of your time, would like to discuss something that's probably pretty close to you. That is a funeral plan" "Sorry mate, before you go on. What are you selling?" "I'm not going to sell you anything Chris." "Well ok...let's define "courtesy" call than shall we buddy? A courtesy call is a call that generally is a follow up AFTER I've purchased something. In this instance I've never heard of *company name* let alone purchased anything with my consent. So I'll ask you again, what are you selling?" "I told you Chris I'm not selling anything." His frustrated tone becoming more forceful. "I don't have a funeral plan, I've never purchased anything from your company, how is it not a marketing call?" "Have a nice day Chris". As he hung up in my ear..... Wait....what??? I'm the one that's supposed to hang up first!!! Motherfucker!!! :) - Posted from rhpmobile

Tara has nearly been caught out a couple of times. It's a high paced internet racket, the best thing to do is say, "please wait, we are busy setting up our dildo stall at the markets, the one you need to speak to will be with you in just a moment, it sounds great, hold on a tick,....." Leave them sitting there thinking they are on the money, saves someone else for a while. Mado Tara xx

Quoting 'elektralink' The calls I hate are those from private numbers or numbers you don't know who it is and they don't even bother to have the courtesy to leave a voicemail message. Google the number, it will show you the "Who's calling me?" sites, where you can see who it was. And block them. LIving in Sydney, numbers with on 03 prefix are a dead giveaway to me.
