Obsession with eternal youth

In a recent thread, a forum contributor mentioned how western society has an obsession with eternal youth (not his/ her exact words). And then there was the thread about botox and breast implants. Wasn't that a beauty?? How can we change this people? Your ideas please. I wonder whether other cultures are so obsessed? In my course at uni, we were encouraged in our Design sessions to consider how building materials change/age with time and appreciate these stages for their inherant beauty and the stories they tell - think of an old, loved dining table with its scratches and dents, red wine stains, and the indent left from the scribbles of a child - so many memories. And yet we yern for the latest brand new Danish design import with it's clean lines and minimalist appeal..... I catch myself scrutinising every new wrinkle or spider vein and lament that I am no longer in my 20's - others sympathise, "it's all downhill from here luv!". So, what can we do to try and change this thinking? Mrs Waterbabes xxx

Jane and I were just talking about this last night. Basically it's a little like buying furniture from ikea. Made from plastic and chip board it looks nice the first year but a timeless classic made from leather and stainless steel or heavy timber would age so much more gracefully.Another analogy was take a old classic oil painting that's a little faded but still beautiful and then try and touch it up with a texta and a crayon to improve it because its faded. Its going to look tacky. I feel the same about botox , breast implants and all the other over the top modifications to try and make one look younger.Just as perfect smooth plastic lacks caricature and warmth. I find a older lady who has looked afer her self and respected her body but is showing signes af age ....(to a point.. I'm mid 30's lets say the lady is late 40's) is full of caricature has a sexy yet matured body. Just be comfortable about yourself its the most sexy thing a lady can do. I find being healthy and in good shape is sexy treat you body with respect as you would something precious and be your best. But the idea of perfection is boring when you think about it.Tim

Interesting question..i am not an antique's kind of guy..but i do appreciate beauty of whatever type. is caressing the body of a 30 year old different to a 40 something ? of course it is.. is sitting in an old Holden different to a 2012 BXW yep...but again we can appreciate the beauty.. Nothing stays young forever ..

we decided to age .....disgracefully...and enjoy the fact that we are healthy-ish 50 year olds, who know what they like and want from life....its no bad thing to grow old....so long as you do it with panache, and have as much fun as you can.........some say age is just a number....but its not...its much much more....it attitude, experience and history...all of them good..........

mmm, all very great thoughts. I think you start to comprehend what it is all about, when you have lost someone. I am blessed with a nice face and I believe a beautiful personality, but not a beautiful body. So my body, I have to love, doesn’t matter what, even I am not fitting in anymore beauty wise, and I cant compete with all the beautiful women out there. I will not hide or let anybody make me feel bad because I am not the best model in today’s society..... Anyways, I would be shit scared to inject all this stuff into my body. No way never, know one know's what all this stuff will do to us and then our inside will still get old....so, enjoy every minute of it in your body with your wrinkles grey hair and what ever. I decided I will enjoy everyday as much as I can, and with my "terrible body"....and each year I am getting older I say yippee I am now 55.....my husband ... I hope he is having a good time in heaven, was only 44, sporty and slender. So getting older and more mature and know more why I am here is all I need. The other question is....are people who inject this stuff and have all the enhancements done, more happy....have better relationships.....have more self esteem than us...ugly ducklings? I don’t think so. I will not inject poison in my body only to look younger, and my inside will still get old. No way.

We are all talking from the view of being under, say, 65. The body is ok up until a certain age. But do you seriously want to think that you would screw a 90 year old because they had a great personsility? Of course you wouldn't. I am flattered that I have met men through the RHP and other sites who think I am really sexy (and I also meet them off line as well). And when I express a bit of doubt about how attractive my body might be they reassure me with platitudes about lliking brains and wittiness and intelligence etc. I get that. But if I was putting my self out there at 80 with the same mental attributes....you see what I'm saying. Use our lovely bodies while we have them. Some of us have them at a more advanced age than others. Personally I'm storing up my sexual experiences for my real old age, when I will look back fondly.....

I believe women are more at pains with growing old than blokes (The Hasselhoffs of this world excepted)It is all in perception. Women see the wrinkles etc, where as us blokes see beautiful masterpieces.I'm with midnight. I prefer older women with all of their apparent "Flaws"

I want to be the bionic man!Super strength legs and arms, maybe some x-ray vision, heart bigger than Phar Lap's, and of course vibrating parts in all the right places!Embedded Google would be a good start I think.Mr C

As the years go by we are not feeling older in any way, but oddly the couples that we connect with seem to be getting older....

I dont know but I'm not into even thinkin about doing any of these enhancements. I'd seen some of my friends who went under the knife to get bigger boobs, fake dimples, Extensions for hair and eyelashes, botox and lipo but in the end , they came back to ground zero. What a waste of money ( poor hubbies ) Theirs looks had changed a lot over the past few months and for some a few years but comparing their previous n present features... they look much much better before they had any of those fake whatever u call them. Women should know these always have side effects no matter what. Temporary beauty is not what we should go for. Everyone comes to this poit of ageing ... I do. But I just dont care and bother coz Im not alone and happy to be what I am . if people don't like what they see... then I would say they can turn their heads other way and don't look at me coz others like me LOL! I must say a woman's beauty is not by outside appearance alone but with the way she carries herself anywhere she goes. A good attitude and self confidence will keep a man's jaw dropping for more LOL!
