Mrs PI laughed my arse off reading this.........I'm a teacher I was having exactly this conversation with another teacher this morning.......lamenting the preciousness of kids these days. What the hell happened to having rules that you didn't break because you knew there were consequences......and you respected your parents, other people's parents, teachers.....basically anyone who was older than you! Seems to me these days that the kids that will be adults in a few years have never been told that in the real, adult world, there are rules that you have to follow or else you have to deal with the consequences. You've made my day.......and your quote will be photocopied and handed out in the staff room tomorrow (obviously with the RHP details deleted :-) (you know us teachers......respectable on the outside, but as dark as on the inside!!)Have a beautiful night. H x

Getting with your friends ..rollerskates, bicycles,skateboards..Racing each other down a real steep street hill...!!! woohooo.....The thrill off it! I also used to love going to the park with friends lying on the grass talking and watching to see what we saw with the shapes of clouds and making daisy chains with flowers.. Wild to relaxing sweet...So much fun!!!

Yes Peachy....We were lucky ...Some more than others depending on ones generation. I was born in 1952. I saw this post b4 and it was great to read it again. Thsoe were the days when no one locked their back doors. Free. Cars unlocked. Bad people were dealt with and really bad people were executed. I remember the Nedlands killer and him gettin hanged. A big sigh of relief from everyone. Not these days. The murdering bastards now vote and have rights ffs. The World while it is an exciting place with all the gizmos we never had is now a poorer place. Look at the grafetti / tags everwhere. WTF dont they ban the cans and textas and make the fuskers clean it up...T Shirt written in grafetti...TAGGER so all can see them. It just makes the place look shit. Who needs it. Never any in the good old days. Bring back the lash I say. Mars

I have to agree with Gerocouple, I was more worried about my Dad finding out than the police. But oh the things you could get up to before the street lights came on that Dad never found out about... hehehehe! Although I couldn't help noticed that playing Doctor was missing from the list?!

Thanks for that Mrs P! I know there are many of us that share the same frustration when it comes to excessive nanny type laws and regulations. There is one thing that bugs me though.... those said same over 35's ARE the bloody regulators, litigators and do gooders. However I think the main differenece these days is that parents are starting families later, like in their 30's and even 40's, and we all get a little more averse to risk as we get older, and as parents we are tranfering this later life anxiety to them! hugs sheen xx

Yep... gone are the days when we used to shoot each other with air guns and blow stuff up with bungers.... I remember back in the 60's how lame it became being restricted to roman candles instead of being empowered to throw penny bungers at me mates.... Now.. of course, you can't even blow up a sparrow or the RSPCA and the greenies will be on to you... and see what's happened because of those do- gooders.... you stop kids from blowing up sparrows and now there are none around. How long since you've seen one?? If we had penny bungers there would be no Indian Minor birds and lots of sparrows. It's all the goodie goodie's faults. NO sex, no penny bungers and no being strapped across the knuckles with the cane. Kids are way too soft. Bring back the Penny bunger and let kids blow shit up for real, I reckon... forget these stupid, dumb, sissy pantz, wimpy x-box games... and let 'em get real hurt so they know they're alive. I mean, who can't remember severely burning at least one hand every June long weekend. Man that was fun. Hugs Gazza

tamguy... how could I have forgotten sliding down the grass hills on pieces of cardboard. I was so lucky to live right across the road from a park for most of my childhood and it is there I have the happiest memories lol. Sex ed, yep, precocious child I was! We are NOT getting old, just maturing hehehehe. And YOU can go along with cum_spank_jemma's wonderful words of wisdom but where does that leave me sexycpl... excuse me being cheeky but shouldn't that 'I had' be 'we had' hehehehe CrazyAmerican... too true! The things I got up to... Muso_H... well thank you very much, you've made MY day. Mr P has some very strong opinions on the youth of today and their attitude towards 'consequences'... 4 eg: the current 'three strikes and you're out' policy seems to taken as ... cool, two chances before we really get into trouble... grrr I won't go on. Hope you got as much pleasure out of sharing this as I have so far! sweetpetite... luvly profile name. We did the steep hills... in the go cart... dunno where those bushes they mentioned in the article were when we got to the bottom tho rofl. The park was definitely my fav place, it was tiny and right next to a row of shops which had an alley behind. We even had public toilets and we'd check out the men's to see if there were any perves in there. Oh, the innocence lol. I remember the daisy chains... sweeeet! charly... the scary thing is that I now have more respect for that phrase 'the kids of today' than I did when I was the kid they were taking about lol. And I think you're probably right about it referring more to GenY rather than just under 30's. 1c lollies, I'm going for the 2 or even 5 for 1c that we used to get. I remember being over the moon after being given 7 x 1c pces for my birthday that I was allowed to spend at 1c per day! Speaking of lollies, how stupid is it that they call fags fads now? Still got the red tip n all... spare me! We didn't buy our kids pcs lol and only got this one so we could access RHP hehehe. Big learning curve there! Pmsl bluelight_taxi... This lass likes to make the wheels on her bike turn as she's out and about performing her gainful employment while getting sunburnt... still peeling today, lucky I have olive complexion hehehe... I don't think I'll ever really grow up bob... I was way more scared of the woman that acted my mother! The man that acted my father was a pushover in most respects. I was a real 'daddy's girl'. Playing Dr hehehe. I remember, 'you show me yours and I'll show you mine' and blind man's buff, oops bluff. Tell me about it mr_sheen... excuse me for a moment but I have to say that the funniest thing is that Mr Sheen is one of my fav adds from the time and I can't even find the words for the jingle which your profile name always reminds me of. Grrrr. To think it is illegal to jaywalk, surely most of us have learned how to cross the road by now... and to think, they let a decent amount of us drive cars... hmmm. Gazza... intriguing logic there as always ;-) Pushed at least one of Mr P's buttons with your 'kids are way too soft' comment lol. Along the lines of 'we're way too soft on kids'. He also mentioned drinking water out of the hose as an everyday thing we would do. I think fireworks have been illegal over here for a long time, even 'sparklers' were for a while! Thank you for the inspiration! How ridiculous is political correctness these days, look at Noddy for a prime example. Can't have golliwog cos he's *gasp* black. Noddy and big ears aren't allowed to sleep together cos that's *gasp* gay.Hugs allDeb

We're with Charly on this. He's only 25 and She's only 23 (on Monday!) and WE remember doing that stuff as kids!!!!Boomers...Gen X...Gen Y...Gen Cotton-wool....You do wonder though if it is actually more dangerous for kids to be out all day with no contact, or if it's just that people's minds work overtime and come up with these things. My cousin is only 12 months younger than me (Mr) and he's a cotton-wool baby. Still lives with mum and dad, doesn't have a job, never had a girlfriend, and really has no desire to make anything of himself. All because his mum and dad are over-protective due to a small and common illness he's had since he was young. He's clear of it now and there's always been medication for it, so it's never been a problem!!

I bought a "skipping rope licorice" once a week and it cost half a penny. "Half a penny" ~ in Australia. That was my weekly "allowance"... but a skipping rope licorice was one long enough for a kid to actually skip with. lmfao... and we did... and then we ate them! there was no 3 second rule..... these were licorice that had been dragged along the street all the way home from the shop... hehe. KIds these days dont know how to skip. Imagine a world where nobody skips? Hugs Gaz

Quotin' yas: We're with Charly on this. He's only 25 and She's only 23 (on Monday!) and WE remember doing that stuff as kids!!!!Boomers...Gen X...Gen Y...Gen Cotton-wool....You do wonder though if it is actually more dangerous for kids to be out all day with no contact, or if it's just that people's minds work overtime and come up with these things.I think times are very different from when I was growing up. I can't tell you the number of times I would send my kids out to play and they'd come home telling me about how they were harassed by kids in groups and/or much older than themselves. I remember going to speak to at least one mother about her teen, thankfully we all ended up being friendly!I also saw it when I was sitting with a friend about 10-15 yrs ago, watching our youngsters play on the basketball court and older kids came along and kicked them off. We didn't say anything to the older kids and encouraged our kids to play footy instead. But when the ball got stuck up the tree it was the older boys who got the ball down, when I got up the courage up to ask them to help us out, and there was another group of people I would say hello to and they'd say hi back lol. Lately tho, I don't even feel safe to walk down the path to the shops cos of the groups of teenagers (10-20 kids) on bikes that won't move over even when I'm pushing a pram and they tease our dogs as they fly by on their bikes. Soooo funny the time the dog lunged and nearly scared the kid right off his bike hehehehehehe...I imagine the area a person lives in would probably make some difference to that sort of behaviour Lolol GazzaI wonder who remembers the skipping chants and two people holding the rope at each end so many could play in the schoolyard! And so many other playground games... what about elastics... that huge length of elastic we would play cats in the cradle with using two people instead of hands... it is not easy to buy a decent skipping rope these days, we tried last year... Hugs allMrs P

This thread has sure brought back some memories and I had forgotten all about the elastics game we played in primary school. I remember saving that elastic for high school to hold up the knee-high socks that did not stay up alone and for wrapping around my waist to hitch up my uniform (mini skirts had not long been in fashion and many parents did not approve lol). What about the cubby/tree houses we built in the bush with whatever we could find, usually at the rubbish tip where we were then allowed to scavenge. From the tip we found bike parts to build or remodel our bikes, copper wire we would burn the plastic off (phew did that ever smell) and take to the scrap metal yard to sell and those endless hours spent riding around the streets in search of empty cooldrink bottles to cash in at the local corner shop.I am going to spend the rest of my day remembering my childhood and, you know, I feel sorry for the children of today...they have no idea what they are missing. Thanks for the memories.

Fantastic article ! I did these things when i was a teenager and so true !!! Yet im now 58 ! a sexy 58 and youthfull looking i might add ..yes really .....and "with it". I think even in 1929 people were the same as we are now ..I really believe this .... i think...we think [ this is one of those buillshit gaff type statements Donald Rumsmsfeld made in the USA when speaking on Iraq ]....that we know ..that there are many unknowns ...that we do not know about ...etc etc hope your having a good laugh at this point ....if your not then you must think im from Mars ! or venus depending on yr gender ? get it ? "Men are from Mars"... now your really thinking ...who the hell is this guy ??? .. ... anyway love the article . thankyou ..more please ...a sit brought me to those days whenn i accidently. used a homemade bow and arrow and shot a relative with it and it landed on his body [ Boy to boy ] with my arrow ..sounds terrible and i dont know how serious injury didnt occur but it was quite close range and a very stupid thing to do ,but we were kids mucking around ..avery nice article thanks again loved it .sweetmanhunk ...

I remember taking a few glass coke bottles down to the tuck-shop and get 15 cents for each of them and coming home with enough lollies to last for days, now the lollies I used to pay half a cent for cost 15. I remember going exploring in the forrest near my house, never worried about weirdos and if I ran across other kids we would all play like we were best friends. I see my brothers and friends kids get in trouble at school and remember the fear I had of getting the cane across the hands, now they get suspended..... how does that work? kids are naughty so they give them a holiday?!?! I work with an 18 year old who was genuinely shocked that there werent mobile when I was 18, closest thing to a mobile was hearing my dad whistle and we would all come running. I think the youth of today really did miss out, they may have all these new toys to play with and be able to keep in touch but they lost what it means to really be a kid, poor buggers.

Thanks for these.............so many good memories, riding my bike to the other end of town wearing shorts & a T shirt, no helmet, no shoes, jumping in the river on the way home, sixpence worth of lollies that would last me a week. These days I think the kids need a helmet walking down the street because they will trip over because their head and hands a buried in a text message. Its my fault.... I bought them the mobile phone............. Mental note to do something about this and not make the same mistake with the grandkids when they come. Cheers p.s. Missed the important one, kissing & cuddling behind the shed...hope the kids still indulge S.

following all the memories on this thread that have so much in common with my own Mars_n_Venus... hey Mars, great to hear you enjoyed reading it again... there's something about it that just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and on these overcast days that's got to be a good thing. I remember being told off for going to the front door at a neighbours house lol, we always used the back door... Graffiti and vandalism seems senseless and terribly tragic to us that the kids that do it have nothing better to do... while we managed to entertain ourselves. Has modern society stolen our children's imagination googlespunkyguy... it really does make me wonder that we just seem to keep making new rules... 2plusU... Elastics hehehe... Yep! we had a cubby/tree house we built in the bush with whatever we could find AND visited the tip OH AND the cool drink bottles! Didn't see smashed bottles all around the place then! Which reminds me of visits to the drive-ins where we would pick up empties before we left lol. Don't see many drive-ins now either... funny story for you... we visited the drive-in at Innaloo with Mr P's brother and hid him in the boot as we had done when we were younger, drove over many speed bumps hehehe... before finding out that they just charged for the car at a flat rate... shame... really funny is that it was still light out and we had to get him out of the boot... total shame! sweetpetite41... it was very scary n all... hop scotch! Good one, fun and good excercise and excellent experience charly776... awww, the country. So much fun to be had there and the freedom on the friends farm we used to visit IceGecko... fish and chips every Friday night till one week it all changed and we had Kentucky Fried Chicken. Try explaining that to the fish n chip man right across the street! sweetmanhunk... I'm so glad you enjoyed the article! It's given me good laugh reading your response... thank you lolol johnson1on1... oh man! I was collecting coke bottles right up until my kids were born lol AND I still collect aluminium cans hehehe. Good point on the suspensions, times are a changing and our kids need consequences they can respect n2245... bike helmets! I was an adult when they brought in that law and from a study I googled on the subject before, there is no conclusive proof that helmets have made any positive difference considering many people choose not to ride bikes at all rather than wear one. Lol, as long as they enjoy the trip, we told ours they had to buy their own mobiles and pre pay credit which they did. Both of them have been hit with ph bills for $100s since moving onto 'plans' as adults. Kissing n huggin n you show me yours and I'll show you mine hahahaha TIT_witch... we had a creek at the farm we would visit with tadpoles AND yabbies, there was hours of fun to be had there! Wonderful memories indeed. Thank you I remember us girls watching the girls on the movie Grease and getting out the ice and needles to pierce our own ears lol. Not once but twice, we added a second set of holes another time... ouch! Easy done in the salons these days with the gun as long a they shoot in the right place!!! I had one put in that way at the top of my ear near the fold... oh no sorry, that's right, mine ended up through the fold! Please pass me the needle and the ice... Hahahahaha Cheers and hugs all Mrs Peachy

Awesome, just about sums up how F*$#d up the world is now. Just the other day someone was saying in NSW there are 3 medical schools, 1 dental school and over 15 law schools...is there any wonder we sue over anything!!! More so our legal system is headed by Judges, what were judges before they were judges? Lawyers that's what! So what does the legal system do? It has far reaching influence over many aspects of our society and it is owned, controlled and worked by one group. I'm a law abiding citizen but the older I get the more I see we are all being sucked in. We need law and order but there needs to be more diversity. Mediators are supposed to be impartial so the mediator in law ie judges, should come from outside the profession. At the end of the day we are all to blame, we let all this crap happen. What can we do? Get with it, learn about the world and VOTE. I tend to think the law coming above the government is wrong. We don't get to vote the judges in but we do have control over our government. Take the law out of the lawyers hands and we can all get back to falling out of trees and living!

I often ask myself why the school bus has disappeared for this reason Peachy??? When I was 9 I used to walk 5k's to my mum's work to get my lift home because the bus didn't go my way ;-)... Now it seems that everyone thinks there are more weirdo's out there, than there was before??? Doubt it... We were all alot less sheltered in the 80's and 90's and I spose that's why skateboards were better than Atari... Big question is, what will it be like in the next 10 to 20 yrs???

LOL Puppy. They sure do make themselves an easy target don't they. If only I had the skills to gracefully shoot them down with words so we can get the message across without sounding like bitter victims of that completely fucked system. I'd need lawyer skills to explain it. *sigh* In what other country can you take a $10,000 civil dispute and have to throw $250,000 at lawyers trying to recover/defend yourself? What a joke. Whatever you do mate, dont pay your bills... just find yourself a lawyer girlfriend to work for you for free, lie like a pig in mud, delay and disrupt... and then threaten to sue everyone... they'll drop their claim or go broke persuing it. And get this... Lawyers are the only party that get paid for their own time during the course of litigation proceedings, even if they bring a dispute to the courts themselves. How the hell did we let them get away with that incestuous fuck up? HUgs Gaz
