Overseas trip with FWB

October 07 2016

Has anybody had an overseas trip with their FWB if so was it a good experience? I would like to travel with my friends better but its just hard as they all have kids. Im thinking of a Euro trip. - Posted from rhpmobile

Just go by yourself and have a great time. You can't plan everything...maybe that's a good thing. I'm going to Europe myself next month. I put the idea and prices to a friend early this year if she was interested. She was keen at the time...but these things take a bit of dedication.

I'm going next year and doing a guided tour, I have never been to Europe and thought this was my best option for travelling alone. There are some really good options out there for guided tours and you can decide what you want to do rather than having to consider what others want to do.

In Australia with friends/lovers/fwb and we had a fabulous time. The success of an overseas holiday would be very much determined by the 'friends' part of the status....overseas travel can be pretty stressful so you would want to know the friendship would last the distance.

Ms Jonesy, if you are looking at such an experience, as in with a FWB, you would probably be better of on a shorter duration trip to see how well you may mix with them. But more importantly, I would suggest you stick to English speaking countries, or countries that are known to have English speakers readily available. Nothing worse than being in a foreign country with someone who you may have found out that you are not really happy with, and can't talk to any body to help amend your travel plans. Or perhaps wandering around the streets looking for a travel agent, but can't read the local lingo on the signs. Tall

To be honest, there's a really bad whiff of drug culture in Asian countries, and yes it's probably no different out here, but you can't get shot though if you're in possession of such illicit substances....I worry that someone with malicious intentions will befriend me, and then plant stuff in my bags.... Those same countries are pretty darned conservative so my mouth would probably end me up like the budgie 9. I'd go to Tasmania though.....lol - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Stirry' To be honest, there's a really bad whiff of drug culture in Asian countries, not for a euro trip - a trip through Prague you'd have an easier time buying a bag of cocaine than a bag of sugar - but you'd have to buy it, it won't get 'found' on you by the cops since you look like you could pay a good bribe amount. How long a trip through Europe are you talking? You'd need to be pretty compatible travel wise, even good friends can often hate traveling together - particularly if one is a seasoned traveler and the other isn't, or one is a canned bus tour type and the other is "hire a car, take a train, explore and figure it out on our own time" type.

I was generalising.....quite intently so...and I know that Europe is somewhat easier to obtain said narcotics..... But the point was....at least here, I understand the system, and while it's flawed as well, the level of corruption in other countries' legal systems can be astounding to say the least....better the devil I know, than the devil that's not realised.....

Cheers, thanks for the tip. I'll know what to bring if I get invited to dinner over there. I would've grabbed a bottle of wine, but instead I'll snatch one of those flying scavengers on the way.. 😊

I have done a lot of overseas travel so am quite comfortable with being in foreign language countries. I would be able to "cope" even if my travelling partner was not so comfortable. My post was more to point out the importance of the friend part of fwb when travelling. I 5hink Summer's post is further evidence for that.

...last holiday I had was September last year...a spontaneous trip to Laos for 9 days. By myself. On the way back, I spent one night in Bangkok, and caught up with a friend who had been holidaying in Thailand. It was only one casual night...but there was a moment of friction, of tension...when I spoke my mind on a matter. I'd just passed 9 days of serenity by myself. Something felt out of place now.

I agree with your sentiment. I too have travelled extensively overseas, in both English speaking countries as well as non-English speakers. The friend part is probably the most important part of the equation (been there too). But my point was intimidated as being in addition to your advice. Should the 'friend' part fall apart, then seeking advice in non-English countries would be considerably harder for the person concerned. (Unless of course the OP has knowledge / use of other languages). I don't see that my initial advice contradicted yours.

You referenced me directly in your first post, which therefore appeared to be a personal message for me. My reply was to let you know that some of the assumptions you made about me were incorrect. No need to reply to me again, I think we understand each other.

Tall's first post started "in conjunction with MsJonsey" - so although it references you/your post, it doesn't address the post to you (unlike yours which start out "Tall" and clearly are directly addressing Tall). That doesn't invalidate the corrections, but he clearly was directing the first message to the OP.
