A job is not forever and life is too short.... I say play :) Have witnessed success and failure, you can never know what will happen until you try.

So Why do you think there are "land mine situations"? Answer that and you don't need anyone else's POV. DG

I see it as the same risk as playing with your colleagues at work! It doesn't matter whether the customers were flirting with you first or not, one should maintain their professionalism in the business aspect regardless! I would be very disgusted at such incident and tell all my friends and family not to give business to such unprofessional service entity!- Posted from rhpmobile

I think it depends on what your business is. In some businesses, for example medicine or law it is seen as wrong, because of the enormous power imbalance between the service provider and the customer, and also because the service provider is required to act without any bias which might affect the integrity of the services being provided, and also because the service provider can learn all sorts of intimate information about the customer which can then be exploited. I have always had some reservations about such a blanket policy, because there will be some exceptions, but overall it is a good rule. University lecturers are now required, if my understanding is correct, to disclose to their boss if they are having a relationship with students. This would have been hard for me, cos when I was a student (admittedly in my early 20s, not a callow 18 year old) I had a relationship with a lecturer - not one who taught me, but one who was part of the group I hung with. It was fairly common knowledge, and we had a good time. No harm done. No power imbalance, no unfair or improper exploitation. But if you are selling motorbike handlebars, the power imbalance is not there, the chance of learning intimate personal data is not there, and having a relationship may not be problematic. So I think you have to analyse your situation and come to a decision about whether you will be taking unfair advantage of your customers in some way. You also have to ask yourself whether you will get a bad name in the business you are in, because that may be important. My personal view is not the same as Sweetgem's; if I learnt that a product or service provider was having sex with a customer or customers I would want to know a lot more about the situation before I disapproved.

I've done a lot of flirting over the years... And had one customer and one houseguest take me on... Makes the strike rate in here look pretty good 😛 With the customer we completed the transaction first, got the business out of the way, before getting down to business...🚀 Hp unprofessional bastard, xo

OK as a DJ its a big yes as it is rare you will see them again so I have played many times. However in a shop is different so tread light Ask if they would like to go for a drink sometime and see what happens

You have to live with the consequences of your choices. That's about all that counts really - if you think them through and are prepared for what could go wrong, then the rest is up to you. Someone I look up to often says "hey, everyone has to find love (lust etc) somewhere, why not at work?" :)

I work in renovation and home maintenance, I get a few nuisance quotes where they just want a conversation and someone to have a cuppa with.Lots of flirting, "I like a man good with his hands" is pretty standard lol.But no, never cashed a hairy cheque !I meet and know lots of tradies and the topic comes up often over a few beers, from what I can gather it's pretty rare, chalk it up as another urban myth.Oh hang on, I used to share a house with a 20 something surfie spunk in Melbs, he had a few "special" customers ! Or so he said

Never shit where you eat! have seen it fall into a screaming heap many times. Yes there are the success stories but not as many as the well that didn't work out so well. It only takes one stuff up and it has the ripple effect.

You only live once. However, this really is a decision that only you can make as DG has said. After all, you are going to have to face and deal with any possible flow on effects that may or may not arise if it becomes a "landmine situation" as you describe, whatever that means. - Posted from rhpmobile

I also believe that you can be professional as well as enjoy some more personal times with customers. The fact is, a business is to me no different to RHP, a pub, or a supermarket. They're all vehicles to meet people. As long as the personal activities are not taken into the professional arena, then why not?? And by this I mean if you're playing with a customer AT your business, and other customers see, yes that's an issue. But if the activities are kept separate then it's really only an issue of fallout. And let's face it, someone with a grudge that is hell bent on destroying a business' reputation doesn't have to be a customer. It could be anyone, with the right(or should that be wrong?) mindset. - Posted from rhpmobile

If its your own business then you are in charge of the entire situation... You own the benefits AND the headaches. I'd be more circumspect in someone else's business... Oh, yes... I'm a tradie with benefits 🚀🚀 Hp xo- Posted from rhpmobile

The last thing I would want or expect would be to be put in the awkward position of being approached for sex. So do make sure those signals are what you think they are before making any move won't you.

You may as well. Had a business owner flirt with me a while ago when I went there to pick up my friend. She was an older woman, 35. Dropped a few lines on me and I got dem digits. A few nights later met up with her and proceeded to raw dog her bedroom while her young kids watched tv down stairs. Good times.

If you are unhappy in your current profession and really don't care about your employer go for it. Remember all it takes is one disgruntled 'client' who didn't get what they thought they deserved and it will all be over. And don't forget most employers will call up your previous boss to find out why you left - that could be a trick conversation!

Stay away mate, never mix business and pleasure, things can go haywire if they don't work out.Met plenty of nutters in my day who would happily burn a man if things don't go their way.
