Don't really have a specific subject? But with anything, I am a big believer that if something sounds too good to be true? Then it probably is!

Three things come to mind: "There's no such thing as a free lunch", "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is", and "My word is my bond" (not sure I can trust that one anymore - which is really sad). Gosh, and I didn't think I was a sceptic! Lol ... - Posted from rhpmobile

I am Sceptical about sceptics... Now now.. hear me out a little.. Say I was telling someone I had been talking to God.. He/She says.."There is no God! that is ALL crap, and people who believe in God are fckd" I ask.. "HOW do you KNOW there is no God?" I JUST KNOW! Period" Or Ghosts... Or Man walking on the moon... Or Crop circles... Or Aliens gentically modifying ape-like early man to produce humans.. Or anything other topics sceptics denounce.. I ask.. these things are unprovable by man.. certainly not ANY man not privvy to very secretive information. Information which you and I cannot prove.. OR disprove Prove or Disprove with HARD scientific data.. personally.. ourselves. I would say "Mate. Personally.. I do not believe in the Ancient Alien idea... BUT, I dont have proof any which way.." OR "Mate, I personally believe that MOST crop circles are made my forces OUTSIDE mankinds understanding, but: really.. Who gives a fck? I cant prove fck all." Sceptics surely must be opinionated and narrow minded fools... ? REMEMBER this? He who knows not and knows not he knows not: he is a fool-shun him. He who knows not and knows he knows not: he is simple-teach him. He who knows and knows not he knows: he is asleep-wake him. He who knows and knows he knows: he is wise-follow him. Someone who is so stong minded on, AND claims to categorically KNOW.. an UNPROVABLE value, SURELY... Must fit in the FIRST line.

I'm skeptical about the claims of alternate medicine, especially the fringe elements such as homeopathy and the like...... But I had a persistent pain from an old sporting injury cured by acupuncture...... And if I had to believe in it for it to work then it would have failed, as I was ready to quit after 8 or 10 sessions, but persisted and it fixed the at times acute pain.......so I try to keep an open mind

To me the only real personal proving ground is "don't knock it 'til you try it!" I don't like to be told by any authority that something does exist, or doesn't exist, is real or not real, or is true or not true!I always want to find out for myself. I reckon sometimes the government feed us this kind of propaganda and don't want us to know certain things. There it is! I am sceptic about the govt!

Cavey - It is very difficult, if not impossible to prove a negative. How do you prove something does not exist. So, if someone says there is a God, they need to prove it, not me prove there isn't such a being. That kind of question has no valid answer as one comes from faith while the other from reason. Never will the two meet.KeepingKarma - I have a saying for what you said. A person's word is as good as the paper it is written on. People who want to believe in something should be the greatest skeptic. Harry Houdini wanted to talk to his dead mother. He visited many a seance to talk to her. He found them all to be fakes. DeepBlueSomething - Do I trust the governemnt? Yes, to do what is best for them. Them helping the people is just incidental.

If you have to believe in something for it to work, it doesn't work.

My reasoning is that there is NO scientifically credible evidence for the existence of a deity or god or whatever you want to call it. Ockham's razor, or theoretical parsimony suggests that all things being equal, the simplest explanation that accounts for the data is probably the most correct. Therefore, no evidence for the existence of God = there's probably no such thing as God.

I'm sceptical of any strongly help opinion. Including scepticism.I'm a stupid romantic, so I want to believe in things. But then I can't / won't / don't.Sometimes I envy the righteous and their certainty.

Quoting 'Messolonghi' I'm sceptical of any strongly help opinion. Including scepticism.I'm a stupid romantic, so I want to believe in things. But then I can't / won't / don't.Sometimes I envy the righteous and their certainty. I just keep an open, critical mind. Good science is fitting the theory to the data, tweaking the theory when new evidence suggests inaccuracy, or even throwing out the theory all together and working up a better theory that explains the data. What non-skeptics seem to do is hold on to their theory (or belief) for dear life in the face of data that suggests the theory is wrong. Allowing for the uncertainty that sometimes a theory needs to be revised is what makes me so certain in my individual beliefs, because I allow for them to potentially change based on the evidence presented. Blind faith in anything is not a virtue.

Quoting 'keepingkarma' ... when in discussion with folk who are deeply sceptical I'm often known to say "and they used to think the world was flat". I like to cover all options. KK At the time they were working from the theory that best fit the available data (evidence). That assumption changed with new evidence that the world was indeed round. Just like how doctors thought washing hands between patients was a silly idea, until someone demonstrated the existence of germs and cross contamination.

If there was only one religion then I would be less skeptical. Seems there is a religion (or sect) for whatever it is YOU believe in or can be persuaded to believe in. Just imagine the peace on earth if we all followed the same values! Alas can never happen because there are too many out there profiting from religion in one form or another. Even scarier are those religions that use brainwashing to convert or make their devotees conform. Maybe (OMFT) Open Minded Free Thinking - should be a religion SFxx

I dont beleive that women have multiple orgasms...they are faking it. . I dont beleive that women can squirt or gush...they are urinating and if that floats your boat...cool. . I dont beleive that there is a single solitary person who will not cheat on thier partner...... given the right set of circumstances. All we can say is that we would hope we would not. . I dont beleive that ANY relationship can survive total honesty because YES your arse does look big in that because it is a bloody huge arse.... . I dont beleive in fairies at the bottom of my garden, nor Santa Clause, nor the Easter Bunny nor the Tooth Fairy. . I do not beleive in a patriarchial church nor do I worship The One God! Personally I want nothing to do with a man (God) that watches his only son die. But if it is what helps you get through the day...have at it, there are far worse things in the world that a person could beleive in!

I am sceptic on the economy, i always here some bozo on the news tell us how the economy is going good. Then all i see on the news is 700 loose their job,500 looses their job, telstra sacking 500,another 300 sacked.Rozella gone broke,Sure the economy is great! Then i hear about the Pope quitting because of health reason ,he will be the first pope to resign in 600 years,BUT then i hear about all these people being abused under the care of the church in Australia,UK,America ect. Now i for one ,know when a Company has been seen to be doing bad business the BOSS is usually sacked. And lets not forget the Press who is basically owned by one person.I think we are getting an Agenda over what is really going on in the world.I could go on but then you would think i am a sceptic...

Scepticism is about what you categorically do or do not believe in. Its the questions you raise for each thing with the possibility of being convinced otherwise with evidence. I think MischievousLad's example, albeit cheeky, is more the idea. Religion and Gods etc isnt really a subject to be sceptic about, as no one can really prove it. More he says she says.
