Swingers ... the scurge of society?

A great topic. There are a couple of people that I work with that are reputed to be swingers and people talk about them with revulsion, usually accompanied by a lot of sniggering. I always say to them ''each to their own, they're grown adults and as long as they're both enjoying themselves good on them''. These same people will gladly talk about gay or lesbian colleagues with fond affection and congratulate them on living their life the way they choose without a care for the naysayers. We are all hypocrites about one topic or another in our lives, but as I get older I try to focus on not being a hypocrite and pointing out others' hypocrisy. How many couples, married or not, do you know that are long past being interested in each other sexually? Or one of the partners (and I hate to say this but it's usually the woman) gradually or abruptly ceases to be interested in sex? I have known more than I care to mention over the years, and it's happened to me. I grew bored with sex with my ex-wife some years before we separated. The love was still there, but sadly she was very traditional and unadventurous in regard to sex. Our lovemaking always followed the same path. It's a bit hard if only one of you has grown bored to expect the other to accommodate your desire to ''branch out'' with others, but what if both of you are bored? I'm sure this is the case of those that have ''open relationships'' or swingers. They each love the other, but find monogamy boring and dull. Is it not best for them to admit this to the other and come to a solution - to agree to allow each other more freedom? I think that would be good for the relationship. Most swingers (not all) I have met, either online or in person, are very happy with their sex lives and seem to still be madly in love. What's not to like about that? Sadly though, many people view these sorts of relationships as rather deviant and perverted. That's fine - everybody's entitled to their opinion - but how happy are they in their sex life at home? How many have affairs? A lot these days I think. I started to question how faithful I could remain. How different is having an affair to swinging? Not much different, one tends to be clandestine whilst the other is out in the open. Attributing wayward children to their parents' sexual habits is just plain silly. Like parents that live a ''normal'' life with a ''normal'' sex life only have happy, stable children? We all know that to be a falsehood. It amazes me that married couples, regardless of whether or not they are parents, will remain together when they are clearly unhappy with each other. Whether this persistence is out of a fear of loneliness or being alone, or a dogged insistence on marriage being forever. Don't get me wrong, I think marriage should be forever but often, as we well know, is not.

they're the scurge of society . Bloody idiots. Mary, as a teacher I am sure you have seen many of the so called good law abiding straight individuals fucked up children. Never ceases to amaze me how some people think and put two and two together and come up with five. Sometimes pays to put the mp3 player and headphones on when around some folks

The same people of whom you speak would also usher their children out of the room if i entered as Annie for fear for the childrens safety. Small minds/group syndrome. Have no doubt that one or more of them have deep sex secrets that are concealed behind agreeing with the group talk. Take the pie motto "Every body is doing it" Rest assured " Not many are telling anyone....." Annie

The Catholic teachers union in Queensland is fighting not to have included in contracts a lifestyle clause..In other words your lifestyle if you are gay etc etc...and already if you bring the organisation into disrepute you will more than likely lose your job.Its open to interpretation of course..Many teachers just don't get their contracts renewed..xxFreya

...are narrow-minded views on all subjects by some people, somewhere. Be it on swingers, race, religion, childlessness, career choice etc etc ad nauseam. Unfortunately we can't eliminate them all those opinions. I have a homophobic ex-boss (still a mate) and homophobic family members. The topic of swingers has even come up, of course I had to hold my tongue too! It would have been unwise to even show a slight bit of unexpected education/experience on the subject, lest I open a can of worms. But society in general is progressive, but not as fast as we want it to be. People might question whether it is indeed progressive, but you have to look back in time at the horrendous views of the past to see that it definitely is. Remember, there are less progressive countries in the world than Australia, and certainly many countries further progressed. But regardless, there will always be enough close-minded bigots in the world to fill a meeting room, and certainly enough to fill national world news stories. The new generation is typically better informed than the last. This show in polls on various subjects. So take solace in the fact that as a teacher, you are in a position to at least help the next generation to be educated and informed even in a general sense, if you are not in a position to reach out to the older generations eg other teachers or perhaps some parents. You are able to teach them (assuming they listen!) respect and open-mindedness, to question other people's judgement as well as their own. And obviously you have been successful in doing those things as a mother.

I find that it is caused by repression and a fear of what others will think. These people who look down on you maybe dieing to try it but to scared of what the neighbours might think so they bag it to make themselves feel better. :(

Nosey nasty lady next door outed them to all the school mums. Interesting thing though she has become more popular and now is more like a sex therapist to the ladies. Within my family though we have lost contact with a number relatives due to being outed. We are trying to be true to ourselves and have as much fun as this life has to offer😊😊😊

I really feel for you on this topic. Gosh, you must have really had to bite down on your tongue badly in their presence. I've read through the replies above and can only agree with what everyone has said so far. What I find interesting, though, is that usually those that 'complain' the loudest, are those that have the most to hide. I wonder how many of those with the puritan views actually practice what they preach - probably a proportion of them - but all ? How many of them would have stashes of porn hidden from the kids, or the odd vibrator etc that no one else knows about ? How many of the husbands ( or maybe even wives) have had visits to a sex worker, that is kept under wraps ? As you have amply demonstrated, don't judge the book by the cover, and I wonder how many of those folks are also hiding things under there covers ? Tall

Bikies, refugees, swingers, politicians, Gen Y, Baby boomers, single men, lawyers, etc etc. Someone somewhere thinks any particular group is the scurge of society. If the animal kingdom could talk, it would probably say humans. It's all relative and subjective :)

Thank you for your comments. My post was in relation to the hypocrisy of people's opinions. I wasn't here to brag, it frustrated me and yes I did have to accept their narrow mindedness, I'm the minority. On safari, Like any newly coined word 'Hotwife' is simply a representation at a given time for a certain phenomena. My hubby believes his wife is 'hot' and so the reference works for him. It's taken me a while to even accept the term in reference to myself. Finally, Morganschild, those that know me well understand that my life is far from perfect, especially the last 12 months. I just don't subscribe to 'woe is me' and I've never been a victim of circumstance or others actions - I live life to the fullest, including having an open mind, acceptance and tolerance of others and their situations. I simply expect the same in return. Mary xx

No I didn't say a thing in relation to swinging but I did say that in reference to parenting & kids, we can't cast aspersions and one thing doesn't necessarily mean another! I couldn't out myself and nor would I. I'd love to have those conversations and not feel like I'm living two lives but like Shells, I talk to friends in the scene. There are people even on RHP who judge, who would have thought that? Mary xx

Try telling them all at once you are a sex maniac, love fucking and getting fucked as often as possible with all your swinger crowd. Telling the truth and they won't believe you and you will see who wants too. bahahahaha. Make it graphic and even explain how you can feel like a liberated woman who very much enjoys the company of a group of men for a gangbang and can organise one for any who are keen, 'they will all get skinny cos they just won't eat, all the bleach blonde girls will be there and the drugs are cheap and hey, who wants to be a rock star'. Good bullshit has to have the element of truth Mado Mado Tara xx

This subject brings to mind a novel I studied in year 11 English back in the 80's 'Brave New World'. Probs not politically correct in today's ciriculum but definately a mind opener. Closed minds often stay closed but I find secrets sexy.

I was once reading a forum on a site (not a swingers' one) and someone posted a judgemental comment that swingers only care about themselves, are selfish, no morals etc etc. I got so pissed off I replied - anonymously - that I am a loving wife, a loving mother of two, a published novelist, look after the elderly and disabled in their own homes, love to bake, am a Justice of the Peace, and GUESS WHAT ELSE! Anyway, the original poster said she could cry for my children. I had to point out that swingers don't actually have sex in front of their children. If someone ever said something negative about swingers in front of me, I'd just say other people's sex lives is of no concern to anybody except those involved, provided it involves consenting and informed adults.
