Ok wow where to start....... ok just a few to warm up with. Did you know that in the year 1200 in China, sunglasses were invented. Bill Gates at the age of 15, designed a traffic control system for Seattle. A cow drinks about a bathtub full of water everyday. What gets me thinking is what the heck is a cow doing in a bathtub ;) I'm not sure if anyone remembers this one but in 1984 the one dollar note was replaced with the one dollar coin Ok it is believed that when the Kings James version of the Bible was written, Shakespeare was about 46 years old. In Pslams 46, the 46th word is Shake and the 46th word from the last word is Spear... This one I read recently. There are approximately 18.6 million empty homes in America and approximately 3.5 million homeless, which means every homeless person could own 6 homes. Hot water freezes quicker than cold water Next time you call someone a twit...just remember that a pregnant goldfish are called twits For all you statue watchers...If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one leg in the air, the person died as a result of a bad wound during battle. If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes. Just want to say..awesome topic :)

Is business smarts, perceptiveness or street smart. But then MrParadise who is a technological whiz always impresses me with his love of quantum mechanics which crosses over into quantum theology and general deep and mind-blowing what-ifs... My brain's too full of my various different to-do lists to retain facts and figures but one thing that continuously blows my mind came from Bill Bryson's A Short History Of Nearly Everything (a must read book). Basically atoms are so robust, that when we die, even buried they 'get out' and float around becoming parts of other things, and in such a way that we've all got atoms inside us which were also part of anyone who was around either 300 or 500 years ago (can't remember which). I think it's 300... That book's mindblowing.

These atoms have been around since the beginning of the universe. 6 billion years or so. Another scary thing is, as a someone of European heritage, I am related to everybody else whose European genetics go back to Charlemagne, King of France in around 800 BC.

We leave our DNA everywhere and shed our dead skin where ever we go. Apparently in an hour, we loose over a million dead skin cells, as they get replaced. It's gravity that pulls our dead skin off. And if you're in space dead skin just floats. The human body and science stuff, I find fascinating. Foxy I love Dr.Karl :)

There's an argument that, during the sexual response cycle, it is a form of myotonia that causes facial grimaces, spasms in the hands and feet, and then the spasms of orgasm. Understanding the biology demystifies but also makes incredibly exciting the mechanics of the acts of pleasure! Obviously you have to have the vasocongestion (engorgement of either gender's areas with blood) before the myotonia. Oh, and completely agree that one would rather cuddle then have sex. And then cuddle again ;-)

As much as I like the idea of the statues, that's an urban myth. Stephen Fry told me so on QI. By the way, not only do birds in NZ don't fly, they have bats that spend a lot of time on the ground hunting and only fly to find a place to rest up. Weird joint.

The study of crop circles has revealed the template for a machine that provides a continuous cycle of power. Consisting of a microwave generator atop a tetrahedron with 9 specific sized water spheres plus one large centrally located water sphere..By electrolysis water is effeciently separated into hydrogen and oxygen providing an 'Over~Unity' power system. Because it is a sealed system (hollow tubular) the water within, can be used over and over again..Just watch the oil companies cover that up and shelve it.

Time stays still...we move through it. Time is a concept therefore and not a construct..Einstein ~ Time is only constant to the observer..Human frequency (moments of alternating offs and on) is likely 13-15 moments per second..We are aware of the 7 on segments but unaware of the 7 off segments....however we perceive time as constant due to the illusionof sequential moments..A perfect example is the light bulb in a house...50/sec cycle (240v 50Hz)*{25 ons +} and {25ons - neg}passing through zero150 times a second giving the illusion of constant light when it's actually off 50% of the time (per sec)...It's too quick to notice (except a240v indicator neon (base of kettle for example)...glance past that little red light several times quickly and you'll see it's off sometimes (not lit red momentarily). If you're still reading....what is element 115 as it can appear on some periodic tables? Obvoiusly not from here....try the Zeta-Reticuli system......Thankyou for your time TE

He postulates: Give the 5 best scientists a pocket watch each. None have seen a clock or time piece before. None can open the pocket watches internal workings... but they have to give a speech each about it's parameters and a hypothesis about the pocket watch..Each's description of the hand movements and data describing increments would be the same having mapped this..However, each's hypothesis as to the internal workings would differ about it's construction..Possibly wibbly-wobbly time-y-wimey..Possibly an abstract dimensional concept..And possibly someting else.

Quoting 'Funlover71' These atoms have been around since the beginning of the universe. not necessarily, it really depends on the atoms you're talking about - the oldest atoms were created in big bang nucleosynthesis (and only created elements lighter than lithium), anything heavier was formed by stars (at the oldest).

is slowly drifting away from the Earth, in time it will drift off into space, some time after that the Earth will leave the orbit of the sun and also drift off into space. The earth will freeze over in a few hundred years and the Earth's core will heat the deep ocean life that does not require sunlight to live. That life on Earth will travel with the core temperature for billions of years through space and any galaxies in it's path. Mado Mado Tara xx

for those ancient thinkers, the moon was actually 15-20 bigger in the sky than it is today..So it's going to fall out of orbit eventually. As for the moon altering earths trajectory with the sun....It wont change the earth's mass and thus gravitational relationship with the Sun will remain much unaltered..The moon gives us rotational stability like a gyro effect thus giving us minimal tilt and the four seasons as we wobble slowly in a dance with it..We may lose our seasons andbakeat the equator while seas become calm as the tides will not happen anymore....And the moon will be heard in it's ever more distant voice ~ "Fuck this Moon Shit...I'm outa here".

Any one of us could have elements that use to make up Julius Caesar, a T-Rex and the very first bacteria in us. When the christians say Jesus is in us, they just maybe right.

Quantum locking is a great topic. The current problem facing R&D teams today is trying to find a superconductor that will work in a warmer environment. That''s whats stopping any practical application today. But in 10-20 years we'll see some real advancement. Oh and then there's my hero Nicola Tesla, and I'm not just talking about the electric car named after the inventor and real creator of electricity (alternating current). Acoustic manipulation is my current fav - the use of sound waves tomove objects through three dimensional space. Basically using four arrays of speakers to make soundwaves that intersect at a focal point that can be moved up, down, left, and right using external controls.

I was surprised how I was easily able to transition the love from Eccleston to Tennant to Smith. They wrote the intro episodes for each one so well to make them loveable and accessible from the start. I have some worries Peter Capaldi may not be able to pull that off as he is not naturally loveable, especially as I just can't see any chemistry between his Doctor and Clara.

I wasn't aware of the Oxford or Harvard comma (I presume we are not talking the Vampire Weekend song) until recently as I had never come across it. That sort of indicates that I am not for it but I am also not hostile to it. I view it as one of those quirky American idiosyncrasies, like eating with the tines of the fork facing up instead of down, which are really rather harmless. At the risk of turning this thread into a private chat, there are some excellent Whovian parodies of the Hunger Games and the Big Lebowski by a group of cosplayers on youtube which I would strongly recommend.

Interesting choice of Season 2 yet you ship Spuffy instead of Bangel. Season 4 had some amazing episodes such as Hush & Restless but the overall plot fell apart due to the actress playing the professor choosing to pull out mid-season which forced major re-writes. Season 2 didn't have as many standouts but a great overall theme with Angel/Angelus and fleshing out the character of the Scooby Gang. My favourite is Season 3, good overall plot and plenty of stand outs. Never really liked the movie. Reading the lines, I can't help thinking how much better they could have been delivered by SMG.

No shame in mentioning The Princess Bride in nerdvana. So many hours spent watching it over and over on VHS to memorise the lines. Star Trek is something of a given for geekdom although, yes, I can imagine a girl with serious curves would be completely foreign to most young male trekkers. There is a reason that the first slashfic was Kirk & Spock. Star Trek TOS reruns was standard fare at boarding school and TNG at Uni. It is fascinating how Wil Wheaton has turned around his public persona from the hated Wesley to being a supercool nerd. It is also scary that he is over 40 years old now. Any other sci fi shows to add to the list? Farscape? BSG?

Some of the implications of global warming, besides the freakish weather, are the opening of the mythical North West passage as the Northern Polar Ice Cap shrinks, which will dramatically shorten the voyage time between Europe and Asia, and cut down on use of the Panama Canal, AND the snowballing (pun intended) effect of methane release from the Alaskan and Siberian tundra as they thaw after holding the gas in force thousands of years.
-
RHP User

that during the Industrial revolution up to WW2 that global warming would have increased ~ but the reverse happened. The temps fell..Earths temperatures have been monitored for a long time and it seems the warming and cooling is not in our power to radically have effect..Global warming was a concept invented by the Thatcher Government in the 80's as a means of funding..Just like carbon tax...Fukishima is a cataclysmic event whose effects could make global warming look like good news.
