That dreaded wait...

One New Years Eve bout 5 years ago I went with my then GF to a place called Milk Beach on Sydney Harbour to watch the fireworks. We put up our lil tent and layed our towels out the front of our tent. While laying there' I was rubbing my feet into the sand as you do, when I felt a sting.. I pushed the sand aside and there it was, a syringe partly filled with blood had just jabbed my foot and I was bleeding.. I went into a cold sweat with my mind racing with the what if's... went to nearest Medical Centre, has a initial blood test which proved negative , and told I would now have to wait 3 months to see if I was infected.. Those 3 months was the longest 3 months ever. Finally I had another blood test and then had to wait another 3 days for the result. I dont mind admitting I was packin em sitting there waiting in my doctors surgery not knowing what to expect. Even when she opened the results , it felt like ages before she said the magic 3 words... Your all clear.. Ive always had this thing about tests and the waiting that take place. Seems to take forever for some tests to finally arrive for the doctor.. Surely if the tests are negative the doctor could allow their receptionist to call and let you know ? or is it the almighty dollar stronger than a panicing patient ?

It's about process and authority. The wait is torture..... but the bill after waiting for a dentist... is worse lol - Posted from rhpmobile

You have to go in person to verify it's you. Anyone could ring pretending to be you for results or anybody could answer a phone and pretend to be you. And then if it's positive you'll know as you have to go in rather than getting the call. It's their only option, but I understand the panic. Glad it was negative Jay_Me.

Who had the same thing happen recently. A negative result too. I understand your frustration so, next time, make sure the doctor or the receptionist is hot. That way you'll want to back.

Doctors usually have no choice, though some will make exceptions if they know you well. . I know the feeling, will be getting results myself this afternoon. Glad yours was negative too.

Where you offered post exposure meds? Here in Canberra if the results are neg you get a text from the sexual health centre.

Yes, I understand what you're saying.. In my case my lady Dr and her staff all knew me extremely well because of a long time association.. Guess I was a lil too anxious.. Thank you both for your glad it was negative comment. appreciated.. Mes. I sincerly hope the results of your tests come back favorable.. I'd hate to see anything negative happen to my sparring partner..

Had one at work last week. Had hundreds of them in theatre before doctors were made to dispose of their own sharps. I would pick up an anaesthetic tray and end up with 2 or 3 needles in my fingers. Have been lucky though, never caught anything.
