The Death of Profile Descriptions?

October 29 2023

As I’ve spent years on and off rhp (about 8 all up) I’ve noticed a steady lowering of the average word count on profiles (female at least as that’s all I view). Is it down to fear, laziness, a feeling that a photo does the trick? This came about after wondering how to discern a level of intellect and curiosity from someone’s profile as a way to filter. Are we becoming less verbose as people?

A minimum 30 word profile description would be one way to lift the standard of this site. Will that happen? Nope.

Removing the generic profile building options would be another good way to lift the standard of this site. Again, will that happen? Nope.

I'm not going to sit here and put my time and effort into making excuses for shitty behavour and pure laziness. It's quite simple; If someone can't put an effort into a profile, they certinally are not going to put in effort in towards me. NEXT! Ms Foxy

Agree with all of the previous comments. No excuse for laziness. Some have no photo to match the blank description. So basically, a blank profile. How exciting! 🙄😃

Many aren't real members and/or have generic face photos available on standard reverse image searches. But yes certainly many more of the blank ones these days (especially when noting new faces/profiles).

I assume it's because profile wording or lack thereof doesn't tend to predict how much people are going to match you in real life. I also tend to presume people are getting less attached to their profiles as a depiction of them, more the profile as a tool to get to an outcome... and right now images are the way to go. In other words, yep! It's not all that bad I think. Honestly there's too much garbage to read these days and spending too long pouring over the wording of your own or someone else's self summary, or message, indicates more a lack of awareness of the myriad other things that can be experienced, done, learned, enjoyed. Speaking for myself anyway LOL.

To be fair , there's a good reason why theres no pic or war and peace effort in my profile.. Having a public profile and not wanting the possible repercussions . l choose to remain private.. Yes ' l know that greatly lessons chances here but l would rather that than the alternative so l accept that... If this doesnt sit well with some ' so be it... These days im mainly here for the forums unless someone catches my attention of course..

I think Sawadee and Rachypants are on the money. Privacy is major, and our writing gives us away, and blokes typically don't read profiles. I'm not quite on board with Obi1 (a username with Star Wars and Nihilism!), I feel the intent of precooked profile suggestions is to offer a starting point that can be sculpted, a far more attractive option than a total blank canvas. A minimum profile length? Yeah, that has merit, but it's exclusionary. Testify that you get hard reading, and don't chase basic (profile) bitches.
