The red.red, rose and the purple violet

July 20 2016

The rose with the almost black velvety petals,it's scent intoxicating ,filling up the senses with its'perfume. The violet,it's scent is much more subtle, a small bloom, sometimes hard to find nestling amongst its' glossy green leaves. So my questions to you forumites, are you a seductive bloom like the rose? Or are you more subtle even shy like the violet? And which do you prefer.the rose or the violet ? 🐞Q

I love the rose....definitely intoxicating. Plenty would say I'm more like a Triffid than a rose or violet though

But it strikes me that a rose is bold masculine and in your face, like a penis for example, while a violet is hidden , elusive and feminine like,.... like , ......um ..........whats that damn thing I can never find?????

Whilst red roses they say are the ONLY roses one should by for a woman to demonstrate a mans appreciation for her beauty but a roses beauty is fleeting and they can have nasty hooky thorns. Violets are sweet and remind me more of a youthful inquisitiveness. For me though the delicate and lasting beauty of an orchid is more my cup of tea. They are hardy and at the same time truly and exquisitely delicate. They thrive best (like a cactus) with little care. Though they have no fragrance there's just that "something" that makes them intoxicating. They are perfect for every occasion regardless of colour or size and they stand out from every other bloom in the room without having to scream "look at me look at me" with their riotous colour. Yeah gotta say I can't grow much but my orchids seem to keep on keeping on no matter how I neglect them.....much like myself I guess 😎. Triffids have their place too I suppose lol. ~ Indy Blooming Full of it!!

What a beautiful topic Q :) I do love roses. I have a tattoo of one - a dark black one. And have written about a character called Rose. But I'm don't see myself as a rose. Not sure what. Occasionally different ones and currently a wallflower ;) I might look through Australian Bush Flowers and see what I come up with. I had a friend who always said I was one of them - can't remember what it was though.

Honestly mine get very little love but if they need a pep in one watering give them some liquid rose food, the next fortnight give them some liquid seasol and the fortnight after that another dose of rose food. It might encourage a bloom but it'll definitely perk them up. Maybe you have bi-annuals? Pepper Potts you're as far from a wall flower 😂 as Summer is a Tuberose. Bigsur83 there's things I'd like to do with you that I wouldn't hesitate to kill a few roses for their petals if we were romping all over them.....alas the tyranny of distance. Your Safari Qx

Oooh, pray tell .... Love a good romp among the roses. Only thing is will you stick around long enough so we can pull the thorns out of each others' bums?

My foster brother married a girl named rose. I won a sweep with Empire Rose. We have rose plants in the double figures, each a different shade but with a definite lean towards that beautiful, has to be richly scented, red. I have a wedding photo of my lil sister and the groom taken in a rose garden. When my MIL passed, I looked for and found a rose in her favourite colour with the same name as herself. It was major prickly and hardy which perfectly suited her. She would have laughed at that, she admired my gumption. Because it was no longer available for everyday sale, we had a rose farm graft one for each of the kids in her memory. The rose can be a strong hardy plant needing minimal fertilising and watering with the right treatment. The one's thriving the best here live in tyres. Fantastic to keep down the invasion of weeds and insulate from hot and dry days. The last time we put in any effort, including watering and fertilising, and besides pruning was several years ago. Growing garlic around a rose can help deter aphids (I looove garlic!). Shall I go on? Oh I already have. And I can be thorny so Yeah, I'll put me down for rose thanks ma'am. Peachy
