Those little reminders

November 29 2014

Kind of a long-winded (but when am I not!) follow on from the Musicians thread..Blindman mentioned that his guitar's sound suits his style...which got me to thinking about my sound and style (or lack thereof)...which got me to thinking about some of the songs I play.....which got me thinking about what some songs remind me of...which got me thinking about *who* some songs remind me of.....which prompted me to write this I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't mind a bit of country from time to time - perhaps playing in a couple of country bands along the way helped a bit with that - and as a result, I've developed a small repertoire of country standards. Probably my favourite artist would be Johnny Cash, and I strum out a few of his songs from time to time...although I reckon I sound like Bob Dylan with a throat infection... The song "Jackson" is my little reminder....every time I hear it, I'm reminded of a forumite, who shall remain nameless. My question is, what's yours. and who - or what - does it remind you of? (see! Told ya I could be long winded!)

We got the afternoon You got this room for two One thing I've left to do Discover me Discovering you One mile to every inch of Your skin like porcelain One pair of candy lips and Your bubblegum tongue And if you want love We'll make it Swim in a deep sea Of blankets Take all your big plans And break 'em This is bound to be a while Your body is a wonderland Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands) Your body is a wonderland Something 'bout the way the hair falls in your face I love the shape you take when crawling towards the pillowcase You tell me where to go and though I might leave to find it I'll never let your head hit the bed without my hand behind it you want love? We'll make it Swim in a deep sea Of blankets Take all your big plans And break 'em This is bound to be a while Your body is a wonderland Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands) Your body is a wonderland (I'll never speak again... I'll use my hands) Damn baby You frustrate me I know you're mine, all mine, all mine But you look so good it hurts sometimes Your body is a wonderland (I'll never speak again... I'll use my hands) Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands) Your body is a wonderland (I'll never speak again... I'll use my hands) Your body is a wonderland

Most of the time I listen to songs that portray my mood (although sometimes I'd pick songs to better my mood). As far as relating songs to people or events, it coincidentally worked out that "With arms wide open" by Creed was released not long before my son was born and kept on hearing "Heaven" by Live kept on coming up on the radio around the time my daughter was born even though it was about 5 years old. These days, I can very much relate to Meeka's song choice ("I can get no satisfaction" by Rolling Stones). Being single again at my age doesn't present many opportunities.
