"Thunder Only Happens...

December 27 2013

... when it's raining... Players only love you when they're playing..."Ahh, a line from a great 1977 Fleetwood Mac song called "Dreams"A line which can only be referring to the swinging lifestyle, surely!?There are a couple of other lyrics in the song which may also hint at swinging... the song was written and sung by a sweet and innocent sounding Stevie Nicks and included on the band's Rumours album which was recorded at a time when band members were married, separated, fucking each other's partners and generally creating quite a lot of tension. So... can we assume this 36 year old song is with out a doubt, about the swinging lifestyle that many of us RHPers enjoy so much today?

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham's relationship was falling apart. The next line of the song is 'women they will come and they will go, when the rain washes you clean you'll know.' one of Stevie Nicks other songs on the album is 'I don't wan to know', with lines like 'I don't want to know the reason, why love keeps walking down the line; I don't want to stand between you and love honey I just want you to feel fine.' There is a documentary about the making of the album.

was written about Stevie Nicks' breakup with Lindsay Buckingham. I think he was the ''player''...apparently he enjoyed the attention of groupies....I doubt that she meant the song to be a paean to the swinging lifestyle.....his riposte btw was Go Your Own Way.

Freya nailed it. Stevie was being played, not playing.

Yep....that was her breakup song for Lindsay...and his for her was "Go Your Own Way". In the original video for Go Your Own Way you can see the tension and emotion between the two of them, it's so visceral. At one stage she's pretty much giving him a death stare lol. I don't know if it's actually the case, but I see the line 'Players only love you when they're playing' as having two meanings. One as in the womaniser sense, and another in the sense that many musicians feel the most emotion when they're playing their songs. So maybe she thought that he only really loved her while they were playing music together. *shrug* I don't know for sure. Stevie Nicks is in the next episode of American Horror Story (one of the main characters - who is a witch - loves her and Fleetwood Mac and their music has been featured a lot in the series). Apparently at first Stevie was reluctant because of the connection people have made between her and witches, and many people believing that she is a witch - which she denies - but eventually after awhile she was won over and agreed to do an appearance. Can't wait for that!!

Have heaps of inspirational songs and ones with possible double meanings - as noted by others helps if you know their relationship woes and goes at the time of writing of tunes; but usually always great music with the lyrics. Tall

All the songs in this album was to do with thefeelings of Lindsey and Stevie. Some were on the Album rumour's.There was a great connection with the 3 that created some great songs and it is a shamea relationship had to suffer to create such hits.

That go your own way film clip. It's almost excruciating seeing the looks on their faces.

Quoting 'Awesome71' That go your own way film clip. It's almost excruciating seeing the looks on their faces. It's like he's trying his hardest not to even glance at her, while she is constantly looking at him, almost challenging him. It would have to be so bloody weird, singing these lyrics that you know are about you. Apparently she didn't like the line 'shacking up's all you want to do' at all...
