sorry but this sounds like sensational journalism to me. 'women claim' etc who exactly are these people who make the claims and how on earth would that help with vaginal dryness, a 30 minute procedure and voila vaginal dryness is gone lol yeah right, sounds very much like advertising and marketing and come in sucker, the women will go at it en masse, just the same as all the novelty exercise equipment and diets that have been marketed over the years. Gimmicky and marketing, that's all it is. The vagina creates its own lubrication as it goes or as aroused, oozes out through the lining of the vagina, yet they claim we'll come out with more lubrication there? lol does that mean we'll walk around with permanent lubrication? So my take is that it's a crock of shit and they'll make a fortune off it, no offence against you for raising the topic peachy and better, longer orgasms, it just gets worse really, they have picked the things they know cover a large percentage of the female population or the most vulnerable, women who desperately want help with these things, in order to best market their product/service , that's all it is, clever marketing IMHO

Vaginas are all wonderful in the many and varied appearances, so women be proud of your vaginas and and don't let doubts or societal pressure make you feel your vagina is not beautiful and uniquely perfect, and use it wisely and generously for YOUR pleasure.

I_Touch don't be so quick to slam down judgement yes the descriptions smack of advertising jargon and suspicious lingo however consider the source, the article is written by a journalist who wouldn't have the first idea on how to describe the science behind it because they simply don't understand using your own words you could slam down on any of the medical breakthroughs of the last 100 years think about laser eye surgery millions of people around the world have had their vision restored by having a laser blast their eyeball anyone who knows the basics of laser safety would be well within their rights to immediately jump to the conclusion that, its the worst idea ever, lasers + eyeballs = blindness ... not better vision but when you do it via from a scientific approach it works wonders or closer to the topic, Viagra how many people has that restored sexual function to and yet the articles about it during its infancy would have sounded just like this one ... or worse im sure there are plenty of people who will be willing to try it, even if its just out of desperation as nothing else has worked as you stated yourself, the vagina lining oozes the lubricant its an organ like any other and our organs are prone to failure, confusion, interruption and malfunction a short but intense laser burst as been proven time and time again to provide the correct stimulation to initiate a healing of the targeted tissue there is absolutely no reason to believe that this will not work on the vagina too it is after all just part of the body like all your other bits

As the article mentions, these techniques aren't about appearance. Many women experience the problems discussed - including dryness (very tired of some people dismissing others' experiences)- particularly after menopause. I don't know a great deal about it but on the surface it appears to be a good thing, if it can help women who are experiencing uncomfortable, embarrassing, and functionally limiting symptoms then I'm all for it.

I heard that these procedures can cause the opposite effect. Drying. Lasers are an energy source. They cause anything from tissue vaporisation through destruction to a milder injury that stimulates a healing response. Whats the claimed mechanism here?If you tell them that you'll sue the ass off them if they make you dry, will they still be willing to do the procedure for you?

Quoting 'Ghost71' I heard that these procedures can cause the opposite effect. Drying. Lasers are an energy source. They cause anything from tissue vaporisation through destruction to a milder injury that stimulates a healing response. Whats the claimed mechanism here?If you tell them that you'll sue the ass off them if they make you dry, will they still be willing to do the procedure for you? Did a quick google. Bear in mind that laser is used to treat a lot of different conditions these days and there's quite a lot of medical science behind their use. This was one of the first articles that came up, from the website medicaldaily.com. It's anecdotal but explains how it's supposed to work. I think it's more than just a gimmick. Vaginal atrophy, also known as atrophic vaginitis, is an uncomfortable condition that many women suffer from in silence. For those who find current treatment options for this condition to be ineffective, the FDA recently approved a new procedure to combat this problem, only it’s not for the faint of heart. Vaginal atrophy is often caused by hormone changes associated with menopause, but may also occur in women who experience decreased estrogen production due to cancer or breastfeeding. It is characterized by thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls and causes intercourse to be painful and may also contribute to problems with urination. The Mona Lisa Touch, an Italian-built laser device, was recently approved by the FDA, and uses lasers to stimulate collagen. According to Dr. Mickey Karram, director of urogynecology at The Christ Hospital, this is similar to the procedure plastic surgeons use to stimulate collagen in the face. It has just finished it’s testing and will be available at The Christ Hospital in Ohio later this month. “It’s a thin-dot laser applied to skin to stimulate the production of collagen. This has nothing to do with lifting. You’re actually creating a healthier skin, more viable but instead of on the face, it’s in the vagina,” Karram told Cincinnati.com.The procedure is made up of three three-minute laser sessions, each six weeks apart. It’s relatively painless and no anesthesia or painkillers are required. Before a woman is allowed to take part in the procedure she must undergo the customary pelvic exam, but if all checks out alright a doctor will insert the laser to the vaginal surface. The small size of the actual laser ensures that there is no risk of burns to the woman’s skin. Once activated, the laser removes the dried skin which stimulates the collagen revival. This reportedly improves the overall condition. According to Lisa Elliot, who recently underwent the surgery after suffering from vaginal atrophy due to cancer, it turned her life around. “Every time that I would go back in to have my next treatment, I would tell them, you cannot imagine the improvement,” Elliott told The Cincinnati. “I could tell there was more lubrication and more stretchiness. At first, I thought it was the placebo effect, but after a while, it was undeniable.” Although the pain and discomfort associated with the condition left, Elliot insists that the best side effect was being able to return to her normal sex life. “I was actually able not only to have sex but to enjoy sex again. It was just the greatest thing ever, to have something make you feel normal again. After the first treatment,” Desmond added, “the sex was about 90 percent better. Then after the third, it was 100 percent better. And we’re talking no drugs. It was amazing.”

Collagen is not the same as mucus glands. So making more collagen could tighten (scar) but how does it make more mucus??Unconvinced. Lovely testimonial though.

Just because the mechanism might not automatically make sense to us as laypeople doesn't mean it doesn't work. However, given that glands that produce bodily excretions are located in the dermal layers it doesn't seem far-fetched to me that the collagen stimulating rejuvenation of the dermis could likely improve function of those glands. I'm sure you could find plenty of info about the role of collagen, use of lasers in skin treatments etc. online if you wanted to explore it further and have a more informed basis on which to make a judgement.

Lovely testimonial though. my understanding is that it's partly from the improvement in vascularity of the treated tissue. (I just got a kick out of one of the people from the pilot study being called Stefano Salvatore) Despite the original article being pretty much a press release with a touch of the infomercial to it, it isn't bunkum IMO, there are multiple studies though no large scale testing or long term monitoring (3 months was the longest I think) both from 2014.
