Who believes in fate?

I believe in fate....which goes against my principles..as I have a scientific background and therefore fate in theory is usually questionable... I believe that you are dealt certain cards and you play the hand that you are given at the time..occassionally pulling a trump card..I believe that we control very little in what happens to us......we only control our reaction/actions to a given situation However A good male friend of mine...thru absolutely no fault of his own, 7 years ago lost everything and I mean everything..his wife, his kids, two cars, his house,...he was left with his job and the clothes he was standing in.... and that was about it.... I remember that day quite well..I remember him turning to me and saying "In 10 years or less, I will get it all back" - I remember thinking...yeah sure, whatever..Ill agree with you if it makes you feel better.... Tomorrow that same friend is getting married... he moved countries and started a new life, has a better job than he ever had, he has built a lovely house which is now tenanted with excellent tenants , his living in a beautiful house (rented but that suits him - they are looking at buying it) .... his having a big expensive do for a wedding, going on a gorgeous cruise for the honeymoon, his new wife is happy with their open relationship - she is happy for him to embrace his bi side....he has reconnected again with his young kids and all appears to be good there........and the person that caused him all the grief he experienced 7 years ago..died earlier this year...life is looking pretty good I had lunch with this person two weeks ago..and I reminded him of what he said to me 7 years ago...that one day he will have it all again...he tells me that he cant remember saying that to me, but he has no doubt that he did.....that he was determined to change everything and turn everything around and to make the best of all opportunities that he was presented with , that he worked hard and made tough decisions to get what he now has. I also reminded him that in that 7 years he hurt alot of people on the way, to enjoy his new found "wealth and happiness" - he agreed but smiled and said "Cest la vie- it is what it is - I got off my ass and made the best of the situation..and here I am..and if I hurt people on the way..so be it" I reminded him that the more you have, the more you have to lose.......again... he agreed with that statement but was determined to enjoy all that he has now...good for him The point of this story is I guess this.......although I believe in fate, that things happen for a reason although at times, I buggered if I can understand the rhyme and reason as to why things happen to us...I guess at the end of the day, it truly is up to us...to make the best of what we have....that we must embrace life... Do we make our own fate ??.......................................................well philosophers have been debating this one for thousands of years.......and the answer/conclusion to this question, I guess lies within ourselves.....our belief system.......we perhaps cant help what happens to us (or maybe we can) but I guess at the end of the day, we do choose whether to be the victim of circumstance or not...............................................

im not so sure about fate...its a very grey subject.....like the above poster stated that we are given cretain cards and how we play them ultimutely decides that fate....will power has have a certain amount sway in how a persons fate unfolds...............,how much focus does one have for instance...........and then there are arguments for inteligent design but i wont go there........ my favourite way of thought is that we are all part of one conciousness and our job here is to experience life,in all its aspect ...experience whether it be good or bad is all part of the learning curve, and i geuss without the bad experience there would be very little learnt..... so i geuss really i do beleive we make our own fate...

fate /feɪt/ Show Spelled <feyt> Show IPA noun, verb, fat·ed, fat·ing. noun 1. something that unavoidably befalls a person; fortune; lot: It is always his fate to be left behind. 2. the universal principle or ultimate agency by which the order of things is presumably prescribed; the decreed cause of events; time: Fate decreed that they would never meet again. 3. that which is inevitably predetermined; destiny: Death is our ineluctable fate. 4. a prophetic declaration of what must be: The oracle pronounced their fate. 5. death, destruction, or ruin. I believe in number 5. That's about it.

Are our lives predetermined? Of course not.Do we have complete control over what happens to us?Of course not.I don't believe things happen for a reason, but I do believe there is a reason things happen. We are amongst the most priviledged beings on the planet,we live incredibly fortunate lives in comparison to the millions who struggle just to survive each day,and yet we rarely celebrate our good fortune. So I believe in fetes, having a party, celebrating our fortunate lives.

I'm uncertain about it all!! I often hear and read the saying that people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime!! Do ppl teach us things we need to learn and then they move on?

The BIOLOGICAL side of us: IF we consider it purely from a Scientific perspective then of course, we HAVE to say...." NO to fate! - fate apparent is purely coincidence" AND, if we do in fact have a soul, which is omniscient, then we HAVE to say... once again, "NO to fate" But this time we have also to say.. our "Fate-like instances, are KNOWLEDGE" Bare with me a little as I attempt to explain... If our soul comes into us with all knowing, it would be understandable that it will do its best to direct us through life as to our PURPOSE. We however are tangled up in our belief that we are humans, only here to do the things that "THEY" tell us to do, in manners which THEY tell us is expected of us.. (THEY being the establishment.. NOT our souls) SO.. from our very earliest ages.. maybe whilst even still in our Mothers wombs, we are starting to be indoctrinated into being humans INSTEAD of the soul creatures we SHOULD be. From then on, we are continually institutionalised into human thought. Our FATE-LIKE experiences are caused by our "Inner Self" or Soul, attempting to get our lives back on track to where we are SUPPOSED to be headed for. Ok, so, I can get REALLY long winded about this... but, I guess I can't really be bothered :) Here is fate for you.. a Statement... Maybe every single one of you say.. "Fck caveman... get away from the keyboard....." EXCEPT one of you... one person who up until right now.. reading this has been struggling with understanding him/herself, and his/hers very meaning of existing... That person reads this.. and suddenly SOMETHING drops into place for them... something which leads them to delve into their life, and ultimately makes changes so profoundly powerful, not only in their own life, but in the lives of everyone around them Is that person dealt a hand of FATE? Is THIS forum posting the VERY reason for me even getting onto RHP 3 or 4 years ago? 3 or 4 years of grooming me into a particular person (irrespective of my personal growth and or ultimate life) to get me to post THIS VERY posting for THIS VERY person, to become the catalytic formula which allows THAT person to change the course of human endevour. This is almost biblical - and, if we were to take Mother Teresa, for example.. what made her change the lives of so many people? Mahatma Gandhi? Hitler? Che Guevara? 1,000,000 other? YOU? *shrugs* I've done my part by posting - My life task is completed, now I can die.. successfull... Whoever this post was for, is now up!! :) *grins* Fate? I know some people who HONESTLY do NOT believe in Gravity being what we are taught by Science! caveman!

make a choice......good or bad, it ends up some where or does it ...maybe there is a roll on effect? What was your first conscious choice you made. Fate...a sense of belonging perhaps

If that's the case we are all puppets and our choices are all made for us by.....who? That makes no sense when you factor in things like accidental death and unplanned pregnancies. Random events are fate? Or are they just that....random?Do you choose to comment on this thread? Or remark on my comment? What will happen if you do? Is this a choice you make or is it a fated outcome?
