Who or what can we believe in these day?

July 02 2014

So Rolf Harris, someone we've all grown up with, someone I thought would have been 100% trustworthy and believable, has been found guilty of indecent assault (what a creep) It makes me wonder, who or what can we believe in during these crazy times? Your thoughts Forumites?

that is still more good than evil. It is hard to tell when the media keep us down with all the bad news in the world. I stopped watching the news, it is quite liberating not hearing it all.

Once said to me..."Always be friendly but never trust"....he meant that it is always a good idea to be cautious....I always think positively about people until I am proven wrong.....but people change, relationships change, who we are friends with today, may not be in our lives tomorrow....as for celebrities it's really all smoke and mirrors. xQ

As surely as there is a sunrise there will be a sunset, everyday, in our lives and with those we love. Nothing lasts forever.

Trust and believe in yourself. Only trust and believe others with as much as you can afford to lose. SG

I agree with Amicus. Only trust as far as you can afford to. At the end of the day, you take responsibility for yourself which means not putting yourselfso far out on a limb in blind trust as to be taken advantage of. And I always found Rolf Harris to be creepy anyway.

Like the OP.... The impression I had of Rolf Harris was the man was a icon, a Australian gem and ambassador to the world.. Goes to show we never really knew him at all. He abused his position of trust and is about to pay the penalty. One less pedophile in the world isn't a bad thing..

Bassendean voted yesterday to remove all traces of Rolf Harris, which includes a footpath plaque (it had been vandalised during the week), artwork on display (that will go into indefnite storage) and his status as a town freeman..The footpath plaque was stolen overnight. .I always wondered that he had a duel persona with "Jake the Peg" (with his extra leg). I understood entendres early, so not so much disallusion here. Has anyone ever heard his radio interview spur of the moment challenge, version of, "I Touch Myself"? I shudder to think since the song was picked up for the breast cancer add in the last few years. .Cliff Richard is alleged to be part of the same scandal Rolf Harris's charges are based upon. .Why would one not believe that the innocent and vulnerable are preyed upon?

Apparently Peachy an open secret...people in the entertainment industry just turned a blind eye....sickening....now more and more women are coming forward.....and to answer your question as to why people would not believe children,it's because it was more convenient to believe they were liars.....who knows how many lives he has ruined,he and the people ,including his wife and daughter ,who shielded him, even though they knew about the daughter's friend....no amount of monetary compensation can makeup for all the pain and suffering xQ

She spends her day encouraging disharmony I have no doubts that's she sees the worse of human nature and I certainly don't envy her And of course she has a perfected a wonderful self preservation mechanism and deservedly so However she has well and truly let her jaded cynicism seep into her personal life In her eyes "all men are bastards and all women are bitches" and has the accompanying stories to validate her belief system That's fine, but a few hours in her company, does my head in She is a very angry and bitter woman - yes she had been divorced but not a unduly unpleasant divorce. She's dated and been disappointed but then haven't we all ? I love her, she has been a rock for me, but in all honesty I'm finding it harder to justify the time I spend with her, because I'm finding that the time I do spend with her is full of negative energy which brings me down. I appreciate and respect the fact that she loathes people and perhaps with justification however I don't and I notice now that I'm one of the very few friends she has left and I believe it is her bitter and at times nasty attitude is resulting in her very apparent unhappiness. Moral of the story I respect where my friend is coming from but I don't want to be like that nor do I want to be around that kind of energy anymore. It would be fair to say that I now keep some distance from my friend. Helped more than I've just recently moved cities from her I still believe in the inhered goodness of people I do believe in self preservation - we have all been through hurt and the worse betrayals always comes from those we love but I refuse to start every potential relationship/friendship/professional contact with "What if this goes wrong ?", but prefer to start them all with "What if this goes right ?". I still believe and I believe strongly in myself and my judgements And I believe that most of time, now being somewhat older and wiser, I get it right and if I don',t then my belief system is that there is lesson in here that I'm suppose to learn, painful as that may be In regards to Rolf Harris, I think the previous posters have expressed my sentiments. The man has now been jailed and if one is to believe the stories then he will be dealt with in a way that only criminals deal with each other.

Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days"
