Another entire industry predicated on the ideas "there's a sucker born every minute" and "a sucker and his money are soon parted". One of the girlfriends of my ex-wife (I'll call her "C") was a fervent believer of this stuff and spent significant sums of money on readings over a period of years. One year, "C" had her "Psychic" attend her birthday party (at great expense) to conduct "readings" of us all to demonstrate the veracity of all of her ("C"s) claims that the "Psychic" was legit, and that her readings were eerily accurate. The "readings" (which we were told combined Psychic ability and Tarot) were conducted one on one in a closed room of the house most distant from the sounds of the party, and comprised a brief account of the history of the person being read and a prediction for their future. "C" was quite miffed when, after the "Psychic" left the party to make her next scheduled appointment, we all reconfirmed to her our views this was all patent bullshit. Virtually none of this woman's (the "Psychic"s) readings accorded with the experience of the person being read. At get-togethers over subsequent years, the subject would come up and notes compared. No correlation was to be found. "C"s belief in Psychics became the target of much mirth, and the phenomena of "Psychics", much derision. My recommendation would be "don't spend your rent money".

I had a whole story about this, but Ontology beat me to it! Exactly the same circumstances, except it was my ex rather than my ex's girlfriend..... On the insistence of a girlfriend back in the 90s I had my tarot cards read. Apparently I should be, right now, the father of six children and living in Europe. Funny - I see plenty of palm trees here, but I'm not sure they're thick on the ground in Europe. Maybe I'm in southern Spain and don't know it yet..... Tarot cards equals blackjack in my view. I know there are a few spiritual people here, and no offence to anybody, but I don't buy it. - Posted from rhpmobile

Psychic reading or fortune telling! Because I do not think that a person's life can be foreseen, or their past life can be traced. However, I do believe in the paranormal phenomena because, the world is too large and beyond our knowledge and wisdom! There are things that exist and/or happen that science cannot explain! I personally have had experiences in coming to contact with my passed ones and it was something that no science could explain! And I know that I would be seen as crazy when I mention this, but it's ok, people don't have to believe me and I don't need them to either 😋 I do have friends who are psychic mediums and I respect their belief and skills. One friend in particular, when I first met her, she was only asking me for street direction and when I was done with directing her to her destination, she told me that she could smell strong smoking smoke around me, when I stood literally nowhere near anyone smoking! I got freaked out because my late father was a heavy smoker! Hence, I know that there are things that exist in this world that no science can explain! :) - Posted from rhpmobile

I have met a few people who I consider to be genuinely clairvoyant..one woman gave me a tape of my reading. I completely forgot about it and years later I listened to it again and all that she said had come to fruition. Two weeks ago I lost my wallet,I searched everywhere for it.said a few mantras and then I decided to really focus, concentrate on its return,I said a lot more mantras and visualised someone putting my wallet in my letterbox. The next day it was there, all my cards and money intact .No clue to who the kind stranger was though. Q

Great topic btw.Of course the world is full of charlatans ,I have met a few.Can people like John Edwards talk to dead people,I have no idea but I do question people who make fortunes from other people's pain. In the seventies,I had a housemate who consulted an astrologer on a weekly basis. He wouldn't do anything without her telling him it was ok. IMO that is just daft. I think generally speaking it's ok to seek advice or clarification but to have fear about your ability to make your own decisions is crippling.Q

Well I make psycic predictions regularly. A couple of days ago I "saw" that Mrs S was going to be chained up and fucked royally in a lovely hotel suit.... And my vision came true....... In fact I have high accuracy with predictions..... I never brag about it tho, but thought that this would be a good place to talk about my "powers".

Quoting 'Summersolstice' I just don't believe I'll ever come across any of them at some festival. Not going to slam it though. I have problem with scammers but not all practicing healers/psychics/etc do so with ulterior motives in my view. Also, hope and faith can be extremely powerful healers, so who am I to say people are wasting their money. For example having a medium tell them their child is at peace, no matter how uninformed, may just be worth a person's hard earned cash. I agree. I'm confident that, through the ages, something as immaterial as Faith...needing zero evidence to back its claims...has helped people achieve great things. And terrible things too..depending on your point of view. Personally, I do believe that the universe is greater than what my physical senses can register. I think it would be astoundingly arrogant and naive to believe that if I can't see, hear, smell, taste or touch it...it doesn't exist. But I don't need to pay someone to tell me what I believe.

I used to be ho hum about it all until I went to a lady before we moved to Aus as I was excited but unsure about the whole thing. She knew I was going to Australia, said it as soon as I met her. She also had my uncle come through. He was talking about my dad and knew 2 things that only me and my mum knew. She said Id be without my partner but that I would be happy...true. The other thing I was told was about my son and his future. Which, if it happens will be interesting! She knew he was troubled by his own psychic abilities ( he used to see peoples aura colours which was very confusing on the soccer field!) and said that he would lose them in his 12th year - true also. But everything she said made sense. Ive been to Psychic events and been told a load of general nonsense but that woman did have a gift. So I think there are a few people who have been gifted and a lot, lot more who pretend to be for the money.

A very famous Quote of René Descartes: “If you can’t taste it, touch it, smell it, hear it or see it – it doesn’t exist”...... He also came up with Cogito ergo sum. (I think, therefore I am.) In the Dream argument, Descartes argues that he often dreams of things that seem real to him while he is asleep. In one dream, he sits by a fire in his room, and it seems he can feel the warmth of the fire, just as he feels it in his waking life, even though there is no fire. The fact that he feels the fire doesn’t really allow him to tell when he is awake and when he is dreaming. Moreover, if his senses can convey to him the heat of the fire when he does not really feel it, he can’t trust that the fire exists when he feels it in his waking life.

Quoting 'Summersolstice' “If you can’t taste it, touch it, smell it, hear it or see it – it doesn’t exist”. So then how could he FEEL the heat of the fire? That was the entire point of the discourse by Descarte.... we have been blessed (in most cases) with the five senses and from those we translate everything to our own conclusive feelings.... even in our dreams. None of these are alike yet none wrong and all dissimilar. Be well...

Gawd I've had some weird rubbishy readings at peoples parties! I'm a beautician from Adelaide who'll marry early, apparently. Though, I do I think a most psychics have very good people reading abilities and are emotionally very intuitive. Lawrence Leung did a good series about he was trained to be a psychic. Not taught mysticism - but how to fake it. A funny one was when he was doing a reading, and he was quoting some song lyrics from a karaoke machine. Richard Dawkins did an interesting on as well... umm Enemy of Reason or something? There is also that unclaimed $1 million for anyone out there to prove they have real psychic skills. My logical side says it's all smoke and mirrors. But having experienced some weird things in my life - especially during a time I was heavy into a particular style of meditation, that I can't discount it completely - so many potential things are beyond our knowledge and perception abilities.

I honestly do believe that I have some form of aura or energy which blows light globes when I walk into the room. I probably don't, it's more likely a combination of happenstance and confirmation bias but it's a lot more fun to think that I have a special power and it can never be disproved. Nobody can know anything with complete certainty. There will always be room for magic if you want to believe in it.

To all who have contributed. As I mentioned, I was just seeking everyone's opinions about the matter, so not making any particular judgement about any direction that may have been taken. Yes, there certainly are charlatans in this business, but remember that these sorts of people exist in pretty much every realm of life, not just in the sphere of "lightworkers" (as the community is now generally known). Doesn't matter if you look at accountants, building contractors, or pretty much any other trade or profession whereby you might require some specialized knowledge, there will always be somebody willing to rip you off. But that is in that individuals nature, not the fault of the profession you are looking at. There are also lightworkers who may not be very competent at what they do - perhaps trying to move in before they are fully capable of doing the job properly, and that will also shine through with poorly presented information. Just like any other job, lightworkers need experience and time to be able to give accurate information - some of them may require additional practice before they are truly ready. It appears a few of you have come across some of these individuals. But there are indeed many people who are the genuine article - however, finding them can be a difficult process. But keep in mind, too, on how you find a competent dentist or doctor, or accountant or mechanic. Not always lucky on the first try, is it ? Particularly when you personally don't have the background knowledge of the field, and also don't have friends or family who may have had previous experience, and are 'flying blind' with the hope of finding the right person for you. For example having a medium tell them their child is at peace, no matter how uninformed, may just be worth a person's hard earned cash. How then do you believe that you may come across them, if not at a purpose held event ? To me that sounds like the ideal, whereby you can read their qualifications, see how busy the individuals are, and have the opportunity to talk to people who have had readings and get their opinions. With regards to the MBS being held this week, there are also many other areas of 'spiritual' interest being exhibited, which may hold some interest for you. But insofar as the lighworkers are concerned, if you may have an inkling of interest about finding someone competent, I have checked out the list of people who will be available at the expo. There are two distinct areas - lightworkers who have their own stands, and a general grouping in a reading room. All up there are more than a dozen I would comfortably recommend to you that I know would astound you. There are of course many more available, but I do not know of the reputations of a fair number of them, and there probably will be many more there who could do the job of whom I just do not know enough about at present. I agree with your expressed sentiments - regardless of the advice that may be given by a lightworker, we are all subject to free will and are ultimately responsible for our own decisions. Advice given is exactly that - advice. We must make the decision in what we believe to be the best course of action.

intetesting Aura-I know exactly what you mean. 😃 I believe people do have and carry an aura. I've seen it. Some people I see bright, others dark. I've been around people and gain energy, while others suck my dry of energy. I have walk away so exhausted and hungover. I call them vampires cause they drain me so bad I need to sleep it off. It may take me days to recover to recharge. I'm not sure either if it's my personality type being an introvert either, if that has anything to do with? Who knows exactly. Ms Foxy x

There are people who still think the Earth is flat, but outside Alabama it's a pretty well proven and accepted fact that the Earth is more like a beach ball shape (hollow and filled with 'deceased' famous and filthy rich folk) ;) I think an incredible amount of skeptical people would LOVE to see definitive proof of psychic skills - but with specific, verifiable predictions that aren't mere happenstance. So much of this stuff is so vague you can easily find a situation to fit it to. Does some of this stuff help people? sure... like a placebo can help sick people feel better, or in the case of a prediction, communicating the prediction can influence behaviour to either fit (or to not fit) the prediction.

other than a feeling and seeing pictures behind closed doors with some people, always something of traumatised happenings, a defensive way the brain works, hide away the memories, (pictures) and avoid relentlessly anything near by triggering the thoughts of what is locked away, Feelings related to trauma seem to get suppressed along with it all, depends on the level of distress, some terrifying. Trouble is, if those feelings are suppressed, those feelings don't register when other people express them, friends, family, anyone. You know when you see someone that doesn't appear to have any empathy or compassion or care and not feeling what maybe even everyone around them does. Best try understand they are not intentionally behaving in a way they would purposely cause any upset, just don't have that thing alert and we take for granted as emotions, it can be a very difficult and time invested, even hated when pushing through every possible reason for answer, when telling someone what it is they are avoiding, exhausting and like a poison until when that door opens and that person releases something they needed a mate for when they did. That's why mates are so important. Sure most of you lot know that anyhow and that feeling you have with a mate when it counts. Good old mates. I suppose if there was a need to prove such a thing, ask anyone who knows me/ us, Tara has people feel so welcome and her eyes smile and that's something she connects to others with and the soul of their spirits, she's beautiful. Anyway prove me wrong with this then.. "It won't rain all the way too Christmas this year" Mado Mado Tara xx

The MBS is in essence just like a trade fair, which is very common in all types of business, but open to the public (which most trade fares aren't). You may not agree, but I personally think it is a quite legit way to spread the word. Many people do not know of the large number of lightworkers available, even in their local areas. This is a worthwhile avenue for them to be able to reach out. Just MHO.

There have been small signs up for a couple of weeks, on major corners, on the median strips...lots of them everywhere. They are promoting an upcoming Physic Festival. I noticed on the drive home tonight someone has been very busy over the weekend tacking up a handwritten sign right next to each ofthem which reads... Postponed Due To Unforseen Circumstances. I guess the neighbourhood has spoken 😁😁😂😁

Well, I've had a reading by a psychic and, to be honest, found her a little vague about things. I do tarot readings on myself as well as for friends. I don't do it professionally or charge because believe I'm good enough. I've started going to some get togethers in Melbourne on a regular basis to try some different things but find tarot cards are my comfort zone, although I've started playing around with pendulums after watching one woman use one to do a reading on me and I found it quite mesmerising and very relaxing to watch the pretty pendulum swing. I've also been to Charmaine Wilson shows for the past three years now and I've seen her speak to locals about their loved ones who have passed away and discuss specific things that a fraud could not have done. I believe that there are some really good and accurate psychics out there, but I also understand that many don't believe and we're all entitled to our own beliefs and opinions on things.

I was born and raised in the Catholic faith. All 6 of us kids were sent to Catholic school and every Saturday night it was mass for us. Our family walked their church talk and both my parents are very active in the church and community today. The church and the faith has well and truly been indoctrinated into us kids. Even today, 2 of my brothers have strongly embraced the faith and their lives are full of the church and community Recently my family was hit by a tragedy with my older brother, being involved in a terrible accident. Initially he recovered well, but approx. a month ago, complications unexpectantly set in, and in the last 2 weeks, two surgeries later, things are still not that good In the past few weeks when I've been able to fly home, I've watched my mother hold my brothers limp hand, her lips constantly moving in prayer, I see my father wrestling with God, the church , his faith, questioning why this has happened to his beloved son, whose accident happened while he was training to participate in the Tour de Cancer, thinking of others before himself. I know my father would do anything to swap places with my brother , to take on some of his physical pain. And then there is me, who long ago gave up on the church, god, faith etc, silently making deals with a omnipresence who I'm convinced is way too busy dealing with the other 7 billion people in the world to hear my pleading prayers ( and who I don't believe in) yet I still find myself reaching out to something that I truly don't believe in, yet too scared to completely denounce, in case I'm wrong and this ever mighty presence just may intervene and answer my desperate little prayers. But then perhaps God is present in the surgeons skills and the nurses loving caring hands. I just don't know But this I do know When we are experiencing desperation, lost and completely in despair, we reach out for something to hold onto, to get us through. For some of us its drugs, or alcohol, comfort sex or religion and tarot cards. We are seeking answers to questions we don't fully understand, and we live in hope Hope that our lot in life will improve, that somehow, something divine will intervene and give us the happiness we believe we deserve Do I believe in God? No, nor do I believe in tarot readers, psychics etc. No I don't. I believe there is more chance of extraterrestrial life, than ghosts, auras, tarot readers, reiki whatever But what I do know is that people, when in despair, need something to get them through and to take hope from them, the hope of something better, is cruel So if one choses to believe in a psychic or tarot reader, an Almighty and ever present Lord who can change our fates at a whim, and they can take comfort and rests peacefully with the information imparted to them , then who am I to judge ?. Never take hope of life or something else, becoming better, from anyone. When you take away hope from one, there is nothing.

What a superb post. I know that all who read it will be sending you and your family all of their positive energy, prayers, well wishes, or whatever fits their particular beliefs. Again, there is so much that even the wisest among us has little knowledge of. There is always hope...because we as individuals, as a people, a species, are evolving everyday and growing wiser to the things that previously were thought to be beyond hope. And the power of the mind is still the greatest mystery of all. You are in our thoughts.

Absolutely loved your response - indeed very well thought out and written. So sorry about your brother, and many of us here have been involved in similar circumstances, myself included. So what do you believe - how do you try to understand the situation that he now finds himself in ?Is it part of an already ordained plan, or simply a tragic accident ? Lightworkers too come from all walks of life, and also, perhaps surprisingly, various religious backgrounds, including former Catholics. Some still try to include their previous faiths with their current outlooks, whilst others have moved on to a more spiritualistic plane. Is there a right or wrong way to look at that - who knows ? It comes down to the individual and what they feel best suits their own needs and requirements. Similarly with your own particular levels of (non) faith. You have free will to chose what you believe best suits your path in life. I could tell you more about lightworkers, extra-terrestrials, ghosts and more, but you have to see what you feel comfortable with knowing and believing- your own form of faith. But please take note that reputable lightworkers will never give you false hopes or be 'cruel' as you put it - that is not part of their job or being to help you along. Tall

I found spirituality in the year 2000 after the deaths of my grandfather, mother, brother and grandmother in the space of 6 years. It was a horrible time and spirituality gave me hope that I would see them all again one day. Since then I have become quite attuned and when I'm with friends of the same beliefs physical reactions that take place with us have to be seen to be believed. We call it getting "whooshed". You know the reaction of getting goosebumps on a hot day when you speak of someone ill or dying? Where you have an unexplained cold shiver go down your spine? Spiritual believers will say that's your angels coming close and I believe it. I've had some amazing experiences with my spiritual friends, I KNOW my loved ones are still with me and around me. I've had proof. I went to see an AMAZINGLY ACCURATE clairvoyant on the recommendation of a close spiritual friend who had seen her. Everything the CV said was spot on the money. The only information she had from me was my first name and phone number (yes, I'm always skeptical of giving out too much information too- I've had some dodgy readings in the past). She started by asking me to draw a clown with coloured pencils on a piece of paper. She then 'read' me from passing her hands over that drawing. I will share a little of my reading with all of you skeptics out there. The first thing she asked me was "who is Cassandra? Who is Cassie?" Now for everyone's information, I don't know anyone by that name so there was no confusion but I knew immediately who she was referring to. I miscarried my first baby at 12 weeks, my waters broke and I went into labour. I wonder can you guess what girls name I had chosen? In my mind I called her Cassie, Cassandra was her posh name. I've always said I wasn't meant to carry girls (after having a second miscarriage as well before having 3 healthy sons). When the CV asked me who she was I burst into tears, knowing exactly who she meant. She told me that Cassie had grown up in spirit with my Mum. The next thing she asked me referred to two men I'd met on RHP. "Who is.....?" Then a bit later same question again. Two specific names - again I knew exactly who she was referring to. Then for verification she told me the suburbs in which both men lived at the time (again I didn't know anyone living in those suburbs). She made the comment "but they're married!!"(OK, that was embarrassing and she asked how I'd met them. Was glad to get off that topic). She told me exactly what my fathers name is (none of this its a name that starts with J) and we discussed my troubled relationship with him. We talked about my mother and my brother who had been sending us signs of his presence among us still. My sister, my kids and what they were up to. She told me things, I confirmed, it wasn't me feeding her information to work with. I hadn't told her my boys ages but she knew one was learning to drive and that we had been arguing about him having driving lessons. It was spot on!! I have been told on several occasions by different mediums that I have a Chinese Spirit guide. If I have a problem I send it out to my Angels to help me, invariably they do in the craziest of ways sometimes. I just need to be open and listening... I was speaking about my grandmother the other day to my sons new girlfriend. I was washing dishes at the time saying how close I was to her and that I'd lived with her for a little. Suddenly I had an incredibly powerful tingling start in my feet that moved all the way up my body to the top of my skull then back again, slowly down my body to my feet again. It was so powerful and strong my body was shaking, I had to stop speaking then I uncontrollably had tears streaming down my cheeks when the tingling stopped. I had never been whooshed in this manner by my grandmother (or anyone else before) and my son and girlfriend saw it happen. I believe my grandmother was letting me know she was with me. So many more stories of things that have happened but I know skeptics don't want to believe them nor can they explain them. I just know that for me the whole concept works. It's how I explain meeting new people here that feel like old friends the moment we meet yet others are not like that. How many of you have experienced that? Simply, I believe we've met in a past life. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs but just because you have a different belief system that works for you you shouldn't belittle what others choose to believe in. Being in tune with one self can be good and bad. People can make their own decisions on their own experiences, yes I've had inaccurate readings but I've had some very accurate ones too. Keeping an open mind is what it's all about. Hope I kind of stayed on topic there.....? Mrs L_T_L - Posted from rhpmobile

Great story - loved reading it. You obviously are in tune with your spirit guides, and I would daresay are attuned into the psychic realm. This particular CV appears to have a very unique of communications, but it is not altogether unusual in it's general format. There are other CV's who also can communicate through drawing, automatic writing, and one I know in particular who does name reading. She writes your name down as she is guided by her guides, and she interprets the style of what comes out and passes on her message through that. To actually be able to pass on correct names usually requires a good deal of time to master. The feeling you had of that "tingling" throughout your body is a common form of communication from spirit. What most people don't realize is that spirit is around us all day long, at all places - and not just on 'special' occasions, and can usually be called by name. Similarly I have also come across people that I have felt like I have known from the past too. You just instantly feel comfortable with them, even though you may have 'just met', and often you can discuss topics with them as though you know their likes and dislikes straight away. Thanks for sharing. Tall

I went to a Psychic Fair and had a clear agenda in mind. My father had passed a there were 2 items of significance to were not accounted for in his estate. I wanted to know where they were. I sat down with the CV and put my query to her. She tried for a couple of minutes and then said "I can't help you." as connecting with the spirit world was not her area of expertise and she was getting nothing. So she bowed out and refered me to one of the other CVs that was more intuned that way. The second CV tried and again came up blank. She said "The only thing that I am getting is that John doesn't have it". I could easily be cynial here, because John is a great common name to throw out there, but John was also my one and only suspect. The bottom line is that I am pretty sure that they gave me my money back/didn't charge because neither was up to the task. The complete non-believers would say "The request was just too far out of their money sucking routine for them to pull it off convincingly". And I am a cynic too. But I understand that the realm of the seer is A murky place where things are seldom clearly defined. We all experience things that make us question...deja vu..happenstance...or something else.

What many of the "uninitiated" don't really understand, is that not all lightworkers possess all the various abilities that most people associate with a 'clairvoyant'. Each area is, if you like, a 'specialist' area, such as psychic ability, mediumship, card reading, astrology and so on. Many lightworkers can combine a number of those areas, but some may only feel comfortable in, and work with, just the one ( or limited number ) aspect. At least the first CV was upright and honest with you as to her particular area. Without knowing the second one's knowledge, I can't really pass comment. The only thing I can say is that not all knowledge is always readily accessible to a lightworker - the lightworker is only the conduit of information passed on from one realm to another, not the storer or the initiator of the knowledge. If the information is not known by the particular 'source' that she has contacted, then logically the information you seek cannot be passed on either. Even if a contact is made with another spirit who may know the information, that doesn't necessarily mean that such information may be passed through to the CV either - they also have free will as to what they will or wont pass on to us. Something you don't believe in and or are not open too?... I have a strong connection to a Tibetan Goddess Green Tara..she helps me with small and large things. Does she exist separately to me,yes and no. She is the Mother, the feminine principle, who is found in most cultures..her mantra is Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha. Q

Of course you can experience something you don't believe in or are not open to. Spirit is usually constantly around us, and can make their presence known in a number of ways. You may just not realize, though, what the experience is. Other instances have been in the form of hauntings, for example, whereby people may have seen or felt spirit at locations (which does not mean sinking a drink at a pub ). Tall

I have had one amazingly accurate reading when I was selling a house in 2006. The psychic told me how the agent I had would not sell the house and to get new agent. He described the agent I needed to engage in detail - her description was spot on and undeniable when I met her that week at my hair dressers. He described the buyer family in great detail - Asian family (market gardeners) with 3 children the youngest being a 6yr girl. All correct. He also told me how much money they could afford to spend and what was in their bank account.... he advised me to push for a certain $ value (which the agent did begrudgingly even though the agent said it was over priced and bank valuation would not support that value) and they bought in cash! It was a record breaking sale for the time in that area. He was right again. He described the house I would buy in absolute detail and described how that sale would go. He predicted that there were going to be 2 other offers made on the same day before mine but I should still offer $20,000 less than the asking price. The other 2 offers fell through and I got a bargain! This reading was done 4 months before I sold my place.... everything he predicted was completely 100% accurate and not one tarot card or crystal ball in sight!! I have never come across anyone as accurate as that since. Believe it or not ... I got my dream home and at a bargain price. LG
