Our Christmas had many weird and wonderful moments lol, it was a good one!!! I hope yours was a good one too. . I don't understand why so many workplaces make the choices they do. Surely experienece and reliability still have something going for them. If money isn't an issue, I do like the idea of looking into volunteer work as suggested by Mes. It's a good thing to keep the mind and body busy and provides another social outlet as well. And then there's the benefit to the community. All the best in 2014, Deb

All I get told is I have 2 much experience grrr wish the young girls wld take my experience lol

Quoting 'Freya77' Chev's mobile disco?...music and being a dj seem to be your passions Chevy...follow your bliss xR Chev, Freya's wonderful suggestion gave me an idea: why don't you write a book about your life. You have regaled us forum readers with your exploits, I am sure it would make a wonderful autobiographical read. Mooka

I listened to a radio interview, It was the viewpoint as a way for dealing with the high levels of retired folk, soon it will be a serious matter. Who it was (not sure) were speaking of lobbying to form an incentive based package, to offer businesses to employ the elderly. It made sense as one point, being the elderly do have valuable knowledge and experience. Another was to help manage the retired persons, costs within society. The incentive for the retiree, had something to do with improving the superannuation benefits for each year they work over the time they are entitled to retire. (to the idea as investment for that time) I felt that offered a bit of dignity to the elderly, and so deserved. But looking for work in November, If one could say it without offending you. One might say you are a fcken idiot. so I won't Mado

If they are saying they are looking for someone younger, that is age discrimination and against the anti-discrimination act. I would be investigating making a complaint and making some of these employers face up to their discriminatory practices. I'm not sure if its still around but there was a group called DOME, don't overlook mature experience, and their role was to encourage employers to recognise the experience of older workers. Maybe check out if you have a branch in WA. Meanwhile, if you are that handy, get an ABN and go online and get business cards printed and start your own handyman business. You might meet some lonely women that way too. I think cavey has something in his suggestion about starting an organic garden, and you could get involved in a local community garden as well. There are lots of option if you have ingenuity and a bit of nous.Good luck

If you want to work, keep looking. There are plenty of employers who value experience. volunteer in the community. I love the volunteer work I do recently joining the RFS, I work with youth at the PCYC as well. It gives a great sense if satisfaction to be able to giveback a little and there are many many avenues i of volunteer work available. Study is great. It opens up other areas. Make your own job.
