Over two years ago I used to weigh 138kg - now I am down to 70kg. I did it by just diet and exercise. I love cooking and my food but was eating enough for two people - so I just cut down my portions, cut out takeaway, limited my alcohol intake and slowly increased my walking each week. It was something I just had to do as I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and doing it has definately helped my body and my confidence. You have to want to do it for yourself - there is no point having surgery just because a doctor told you should. Personally I think motivation is the only key to weight loss.

Im with Roxy in that you dont look at all big to me ... you look like a voluptuous woman .... I like what woody_pussycat said..... 4 years ago I had never exercised.. so just started with walking, then started going further, doing it more often .. then i found I had a lot more energy and started to minimise my plate side ...lots more vegis and salad then anything else... I then went along to a boutique gym and joined some wieght loss classes... 3 years ago .. I trekked Kokoda... climbed mountain after mountain .. and finished ... still not a skinny girl .. still carrying some weight but happy healthy and alive ... Today .. for my age Im doing ok ... I think we often need to look at our factors.. I wonder what type of 'consultant' mentioned this to you ... Id coach you to loose weight .. message me if you would like me too :)

a few of my friends have had the gastric lap band and the experience has been different for each of them. The one thing that is the same for all of them is the smaller portions of food they can consume at one time. It seems your head has to be in the right space to loose the weight. The lap band is only a restriction to the amount but you have to eat the right foods, as others have said, more salads etc. Apparently you (and the Doctors) determine the amount of pressure from the band and it can be adjusted. Between them, they have all had various problems, it seems that is fairly common. You do still need to watch the quality of the food ( no fatty stuff etc) and supplement your food with multivitamins. They have all found it difficult at times with taking in the correct amount of nourishment and keeping healthy. Energy levels can be lowered which can make it difficult to exercise and you need to do some sort of exercise to keep your muscle tone and metabolism firing. Some people think that a lap band is the easy way out, but apparently its bloody hard work. The only one person you need to make this decision for is you. All the best in your endevours, which ever way you decide to do it!

It has definately given me food for thought, i did lose 25kgs before moving out to Australia from the UK but since then i have not really been able to shift it again, yes a lot is to do with what you eat and how much you exercise and that is all very well but when you work full time shift work and have two little ones as well when do you fit in the much needed exercise, maybe when i get my youngest to school next year i will have more time to go to a gym or walk/cycle etc. However i do think that along with that then surgery of whatever kind will be what i need to do, i need to lose around 60kgs if i am to get anywhere near my recommended BMI :(

Cuddes have been in a similar spot in the past and lost heaps of weight. If you would like a local coach to help you out I could offer to do so when I have spare time. As has been said above a bit of extra exercise can go a long way to helping shed some of the extra pounds. (real exercise) Hey it's just an offer and I totally understand if you say bugga orf.

A girlfriend of mine had it 2 years ago. She lost a lot of weight initially but sadly it's slowly all going back on. This time last year I was seriously considering it but decided to try the exercise & good food first and it worked!! I've dropped from a size 22 down to a 14 and have never felt better. I was very lucky to find a brilliant Mobile Personal Trainer who helped keep me motivated! Definitely recommend getting someone to go with you on the journey!Good luck xxx

To truly achieve that ultimate goal you need coaching on both levels. Body and Mind It is only then that we can be strong. I agree the old grey matter is vital.

I hope that you are motivated by them. (You look great by the way.) But if you wanted to lose weight, they are all good ways to do so.........although there are also many people out there that the banding has worked on. My ex for example. Mikey Robbins is a personality that you may know of as well. My ex is still curvy and great. She has stabilized on that for a few years now. She WAS much bigger. Still, if you can do it without the banding, obviously that would be the better option. Did i mention the fact that you look great anyway? lol.

Dieting is the best way - I came up with a diet that involved fish chicken salads fruit etc - I went from 113 Kls to 99 Kls in 4 months & my wife lost 13 Kls in 13 wks - we stuck to the diet 7 days a week except fri or sat nite then we went out & had whatever (makes you feel normal /like every one else) then next day back into it. We got on the scales every day when we got out of bed & recorded our weight in a diary - we show people book & they are amazed how it worked. It fast becomes a passion/hobby seeing the results on a daily basis. Even if along the way you don't lose anything for a couple of days or you even put a kilo back on it doesn't matter - you are still lighter then when you started. Once you start it becomes a mind thing & you sure feel better every day - You guys look good anyway - if you were 5 years older & we were 100 younger we'd be chasing after you - Good Luck

Cuddles you don't look that big to me either. But I know how you feel, I feel like that too, I feel very self concious and embarrassed by my weight, and find it hard to believe that any one is attracted to me (including my man). Since the birth of my baby I've struggled to lose the weight, but just over 3 weeks ago I started a shake diet and I've alreday lost 5kgs, I'm also using my Wii Fit Plus every day if I get time, and sometimes only every second day, but the weight is starting to fall off. I would reccomend trying something like this before any type of surgery. If you want to chat on e-mail or msn contact us us underscore and underscore you at live dot com dot au

Surgery should pretty much be the last resort for any ailment so don't jump at gastric surgery as that's only a stop gap way of trying to alter habits. Yep it's all down to diet and exercise (unless there's other medical complications). The best thing is to see a doctor and see if he can't get you on some govt funded programs - you can get free consults with exercise and diet professionals. They can steer you on the right kinds of exercise and diet to fit in with your life. If the kids are holding you back then take em down the park with you and kick around a soccer ball, good for them too!

Hi! Hun Sweet hart your Problem isn't your weight its your perception of yourself.Your self esteem is low.here's something that works but you have to be persitent and mean it. everytime that neg; voice pops up say I HEAR YOU.....I DISAGREE...NOW F /OFF!! or similar word.Remember this too when you think others know you better than you do and you agree. NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL INFERIOR WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION. Eleanor R.T These simple things have brought People I've worked with , from being depresse low self esteem to high self worth and Confidence .It takes about 1month.but you'll see changes prety quickly.so get started asap. Gastric Bypass Surgery .. DO NOT GET IT DONE!!!!!Try LAP BANDING . Hun I had it done 30yrs go.Sure it help you shed weight, but fastig on a drip or about 1month depening on your size .Having a Life threatenig Surgery that leaves you with a very noticeable scar that goes from between your breasts to your navel (no matter what the Drs Say .) Your intestines are turned around losing your gall blader and small bowl being moved to the top of your tiny stapled stomache. Once out of surgery you've drainage in a cpl of places. When you go home you'll maybe get thro; a slice of cheese throwing up because you accidently ate more. You'll feel frustrated, tired, hurting from op.You will suffer Hyperglycemia Low glucose opp to diabetic. called Dumping syndrome make you feel weak and dizzy, Low Vit B complex,You'll shed weigh sure but will end up with a lots of excess skin.Your belly skin could sag quite a bit ..You'll have to have an Op or more to remove that. Being big the scar will be very noticeable. Plus it goes right down to behind your knees so you look like an anchor of scars. After all that your stomach does expand to normal. You don't lke yourself now, but with all that scaring Hun you will feel so much worse. Really for a very expensive waste of time in the long run . Lapbanding is a better alternative doesn't disrupt your organs and can be saftely removed when not needed anymore.Only key hole surgery. I believe not a big scar. Exercising ,water aerobics, sheding it slow won't have you with as much loose skin. Hu I am a Large Lady I can tell you so many Guys enjoy a Woman with curves BBW Ladies I have more Young sexy Hunky Guys than I can enjoy so embrace who you are show them you're worh waiting for. just ask them ..Women are the only ones wanting to be unrealistic.Change your DR is behind times when you do find a good 1, ask for METFORMIN Tabs. take 2per day they make your glucose work more efficiently hence burn fat easily. Also eat Natural Yog Before meals after you have a glass of water or 1 with a bulking agent in it this will fill you .Use smaller plates after 10mins say that's enough, your mind will be reset in a short time and your confidence will return ....I've shed 30kgs in just over 6mths doing this ..You're eating to fill a void right now. so do those lessons and get Metformin so on ...You can also try acupuncture and Hypnoterapy to help you. Good Luck! Lu :)

Cuddes,That "Consultant" should be kicked fair in the arse! Gastric Bypass Surgery is the VERY LAST resort and should only be a consideration if you are physically limited or have another underlying medical issue that prevents fat oxidation. I have counseled and worked with a lot of people in your shoes. Having studied nutrition and exercise for close to 20 years I know there is no magic pill or special shake, these are short term fixes and in the end cause more harm than good. It all comes down to lifestyle and what we are willing to change. If you are willing to make the changes google REAL weight loss sites like Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle (Tom Venuto), Eat Stop Eat (Brad Pilon), and Dr Mercola"Nothing Tastes as Good as Being Lean Feels" Jack LalanneRed xx

My sister went from around 120kg down to 65 kg she looked great, then I heard she was admitted to emergency hospital to have it removed she was in serious trouble. She is now over 100kg and her husband says rather have a wife than no wife! We are both around 15kg over BMI 32, so got the GP to sign off on gym so our health funds would pay. The GP then did a referral to the Dieticans at QLD Health a free service. They reckon change our long term eating, sustained weight loss is lifestyle choices and half a kg loss per week max, we are doing as they reccommed. Done the diets before losing 1.5 to 3 kg per week, stop the special diet and you are back to where you were 6 mths ago. 70% is what we eat 30% exercise. Bugger red wine / beer has been cut from 4 ltrs a week to, to half a litre a week those dieticans need to re visit that advice! I mean to say 3 days a week no wine or beer!

hi, everyone i have known including my self and husband who have used the shake diets seems to not work. meaning that yes you loose weight as you are putting no carbs into your body or very little, but once at a weight your comfortable with you stop the shakes and the weights comes back on, i at the moment have lost nearly 5 kilos in 6 weeks due to gastric reflux and having to cut foods out of my diet and have been sugested to loose weight by the dr also,i have cut down on my meal size at night, stopped all soft drink and changed it to water, no chocolate or dairy no coffee. so in the day i drink loads of water.i eat 2 peices of toast for breaky, maybe an apple for a snack, lettuce and cucumber sandwich for lunch, few potato chips in the after noon and just a normal meal of veg and meat at night but much smaller portion. sometimes i change from veg and meat to fish and salad. seems to be working, i shouldnt be eating the potato chips though! prob not the bread either but while its working ill keep going. My ex mother inlaw had the surgery and it has worked for her and she has stayed a smaller size for many years. but her serving size of food is very small and has remained very small.

Had lost and regained the same 50+ kilos. She had a gastric bypass (not the lapband) about 8 months ago and has lost 60+kgs and is now the smallest she's been since she was 12. She recommends it highly. She works and has 2 little kids too, now she does heaps of exercise and eats extremely well (knjows the calorie content of eveything) and is very happy with her current size and how she looks.Previously she had liposuction and some other operation where they remove part of your stomach that creates hunger hormones (I'm hazy on those details) but neither worked.I'm still quite big, a size 20(to get to "healthy" BMI I'd have to lose another 30kgs) however I've lost 30kgs in the last year by exercising and changing how I eat (and enlisting the services of a personal trainer). The personal trainer was an excellent investment!! I wish I could still afford to go as I struggle motivating myself even after doing well the last year.Dr's recommend surgery these days because they get kickbaks I'm sure.Maybe investigate something like the plan my trainer gave me.. to kick start weight loss cut out any booze, up the protein (say 160g/day), and have a moderate carb intake (say 110g/day) and moderate fat intake (say 35g/day). Enure fat comes from healthy sources i.e. nuts and avocado's rather than meat. On shift have a protein shake instead of a bag of chips as snack (not saying you do that but I used to work shift and that's what I used to do). On your break at work just do a couple of flights of stairs (if there are stairs), or walk the long way to the toilet etc. Upping protein will satiate you for longer, so it's really important. That's a similar plan to what I was on and I started getting instant results. It's pretty basically the nutrition plan any personal trainer/studio will give you if you want to lose fat.Oh, and try and do some resistance exercise, get a cheap set of dumbells and do arm work and some situps and pushups and squats. These things will help build muscle and you can do them at home while looking after the littlies.

I am not a believer of surgery also I like my food too much. I tried Weight watchers about 10 years ago and lost 10 kilos but put it back on. But I have now lost 21 kilos so far and now feel great and am chasing the younger good looking guys on this site!!! Cos I now feel so much better and sexier.I did it by sort of following Body Trim. Check out the website but basically they say we need to eat protein every three hours. They did have a money back guarantee that if you didn't lose weight you got your money back. I know of a man that in two weeks lost 11 kilos but he did need to lose it.Cos I do shift work I often have the choice of eating or sleeping so sleeping often wins but because I lost the weight slowly (over nine months) my body shape is the same ie no saggy skin. Love the fact I can now go to the normal shops and buy size 10 clothes when they are on sale!!!! Also don't have to have shakes or diet food can eat real food.I haven't met anyone that has tried Bodytrim and not lost weight - good luck what ever you do.

Quoting 'cuddes' It has definately given me food for thought, i did lose 25kgs before moving out to Australia from the UK but since then i have not really been able to shift it again, yes a lot is to do with what you eat and how much you exercise and that is all very well but when you work full time shift work and have two little ones as well when do you fit in the much needed exercise, maybe when i get my youngest to school next year i will have more time to go to a gym or walk/cycle etc. However i do think that along with that then surgery of whatever kind will be what i need to do, i need to lose around 60kgs if i am to get anywhere near my recommended BMI :( It is always "maybe next week/month/year" Take the kids to the park and kick a ball. Ride bikes with them. If they are too young for bikes, pushing a stroller flat out is good exersize. Throw away all those large dinner plates and buy little luncheon plates. Cut back your food intake, change what you eat There are plenty of things you can do while working shift work. I now penty of people who have had lap-band surgery. Some to great effect and one woman I know with this surgery I see tucking into bacon and eggs and fried potatoes for breakfast. In the weight loss battle it is always the excuses. It is always procrastination that is the biggest factor. If you need to lose that much weight and keep putting it off because the kids are too young...ask yourself this question? Who will look after them if you die from diabetes or heart complaint or the many other things that can go wrong? Add those extra years to your lfe. BUT...do it for YOU!

But probably wishful thinking and reality is ....effort damn!
