just a bit of help wit organising 1st travel to QLD

December 06 2009

Heya,Thinking about my first trip to QLD with a girlfriend of mine. Me personally would love to try out the theme parks and enjoy the sun while my friend loves to sunbake whether at the beach or the pools. Just needed some help as to which airport, places to stay, places to visit (when not baking of course), of course we would have a visit to CI(somehow!). We were thinking around february so if there is some help out there it would be lovely as to know what and where to look!

A couple of years ago, the missus and I went out to Surfers Paradise. We stayed at the Vibe, which was close to the heart of town (about 2 mins walk) and a short bus ride out to the theme parks (Movie World, or Sea World, or something). You can tell it's not my cup of tea :). But she wanted to try them out, so we went. Around the Vibe, there's lots of nice restaurants. In particular, there was a very nice seafood place about 10 mins walk from the hotel, can't remember what it was called, but it was run by a Singaporean chap. Lovely, fresh seafood. Just ask the concierge at the Vibe, there's only one seafood place within walking distance of the Vibe. I remember Surfers Paradise airport about 30 to 45 mins away by bus, and it was a tiny affair, couldn't get lost in it if you tried. The only other place in QLD we've been to is Brisbane proper, but that was on business, and there's only that man-made beach there. Still, it's quite a lovely place. We stayed at the Stamford (or was it the Westin?). IMHO, the best hotel there. Not much to recommend the city to, but the food in Fortitude Valley is good, particularly this place called the Anise - you'll have to make a booking, otherwise you'll never get in. Hope you enjoy yourselves!

Hi    You would need to fly into Coolangatta Airport (known as OOL).there is heaps of varying accomodation options and prices-maybe have a look on sites like Wotif.Theme parks are a bus ride away.plenty of niteclubs /bars and also Jupiters Casino in Broadbeach (not far from Surfers) which has a few good bars as well

Highly recommend Vibe, stayed there myself this year, and as I work in the industry, found that it was quite good.On a Wednesday and Friday evening, they have the street market along the foreshore, which is quite nice. Also, go to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
