I'm expecting a lot of bluster and a different tone to the presidency, but I'm not expecting the actions to match up with the noises being made before election - big difference between what theh say they'll do, and what they actually do once the people in charge of making things happen tell them the reasons why things are done the way they are and why they can't be done differently. I'll be interested to see which of "twitter for android" or "twitter for iphone" is the one making most posts. Will his first week be unpresidented? (as the president elect would say... 'unprecedented' as his staffer would say a while later after deleting the original tweet)

There's are a whole heap of people behind the scenes that will stop him 'doing' anything stupid. 'Saying' anything stupid? It appears he's unstoppable there! Obama couldn't get through a quite small but positive change to gun control, Trump won't be able to make any big sweeping changes for the negative either. - Posted from rhpmobile

I have zero interest in following and/or discussing about politics 🙃 but to answer your questions, scienceisgolden, here is my 2ct 😊 Q) Scared? A) Nope! I was born in the war era, had lived through poverty, had been to hell several times in my life so far (and I'm only 37!). So, how else can things be more worse for me? I'm done with being scared! 😈 Q) Willing to give him a chance? A) Like we have a choice! 😕 Hence, whether I am, or we are, willing or not to give him a chance, it is not up to the non-billionaire citizens like us! Politic is the game for the riches only! 😎 Q) Do you have american roots or links to the us of any and thinking "wtf have they done?" A) No, I do not have American roots nor links to the US at all! So, I'm counting my blessing that I can have my peace in this sense 😁 Life is too short to kill it with worries that aren't going to improve any time soon! That's why I don't care about what's going on in politics because, what good does it do for me since I am not a billionaire businesswoman?! 😄 - Posted from rhpmobile

Trump's words and actions have already borne impacts on people (rich and poor) globally, via the markets and diplomatic/political circles. I think his ascension to the White House will require people pay much more, not less attention to world events. As is the case with 'illusionists' and confidence tricksters, while the audience watches and listens to the face and the props, they don't notice what the hands are doing (misdirection). If they watch the left hand, they miss the right hand. If they watch the right hand, they miss the left hand... "Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes..." I think if nothing else Trump has proved he can outflank his rivals and appeal to nationalistic sentiments. So I can't see him pulling back from his protectionist position and that will harm a number of countries, particularly China. My prediction is a blow up in the South China Sea within the first year followed by a threat to the US as the default international currency which is sure to engage them despite their debt. Scary times I think!! - Posted from rhpmobile

We survived Abbott, we'll survive Trump. As others have said I think the people with real power will stop anything disastrous going down. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is impeached before his term is up. The silver lining in this cloud is that he has demonstrated the power of the vote, will we learn? I doubt it.

For what its worth he should be given a chance to do the job he was elected to do without the media reporting bullshit for the sake of a story. The worst part is that is shows how divided they are as a country with some of the commentary and remarks by other political parties and public. That creates a bigger gap and bigger problems. He is no fool. He will make mistakes but generally i think he will do a good job. Is it such a bad thing to have someone not influenced by a life in politics to enter politics and do a good job?? Not afraid to make the calls and say whats needed to be said. Its what Australia is screaming for as is evident from our own recent elections. My prediction is a 'wave' of trump/ Hanson/ average Joe's making gains in politics and winning important key positions over the next 5 - 10 years and doing a better job than the current state batch of muppets. You know what....i might just put my hat in the ring and run myself!!! - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'that50zguy' We survived Abbott, we'll survive Trump. As others have said I think the people with real power will stop anything disastrous going down. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is impeached before his term is up. The silver lining in this cloud is that he has demonstrated the power of the vote, will we learn? I doubt it. Abbot's time in rule has seen a lot change for my family and I can't say much, if any of it, was in a positive way. I worry at the current political trend that looks to see my children unable to have more children, continue what was a solid career, or even to rent their own home, let alone buy one. Latest changes to pensioner's income consideration have me wondering if we'll be allowed to have a family home to pass on. :-( Only from my point of view of course, the one I know best. ;-) To me, the power of the vote is a joke. I have no idea how the American political system works, or even our own so much but to me the voting process is a joke based on tit bits I have seen questioning the possible rigging of votes in both recent elections? I also remember reading stories of incorrect voting information being supplied to voters in Australia. And then there are preferential votes??? I'd prefer to vote who I want in. Mind you, we really only get to vote on the person the parties choose to put forward anyway... Cheers, Peachy

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I don't think "I just kiss em, I can't control myself", "let's build a wall and keep all the Mexicans out", "blood coming out of her whatever", etc, fall under the category of "things that need to be said". I also don't think that it's a bad thing to expect the people who are going to be making major economic, legal and political decisions to have lay least some experience in those fields. I don't doubt Trump is a successful businsssman - but his skills include screwing smaller businesses and indipendent contractors for his own financial benefit, with little sense of fairness and equity. That's not the kind of economic leader I want making major financial decisions for the a world superpower like the US.

Patchworkgirl i understand your point completely. I dont condone people saying anything like that. But he is getting crucified before being officially in office and having a chance to prove himself. If he has said those things then he should get taken to the cleaners 100%. But people say and do dumb things all the time and learn from it...i know I have. And i turned out.....ok haha But lets see if he can have a positive impact...he deserves that chance. Hopefully he has enough level headed people in his staff to negate the stupid stuff and he canadapt accordingly And the media have a huge part to play in what we see both good and bad - Posted from rhpmobile

Obama was a complete disgrace to the country. A scumbag in every form. The Democrats hate Trump. The republicans hate Trump. the media hates Trump. the global elitists hate Trump. This is the EXACT reason I like him, because he is pissing in EVERYONES corn flakes and forcing them to eat it for breakfast. I am from the states, we have had people in office there since BEFORE the internet was invented. think about that for a minute. If what they have been doing is so great, WHY is the country a train wreck? Trump is going to 'rock them like a hurricane'. He already said TERM LIMIT of eight years maximum, then HIT THE ROAD. no more grazing at the government feeding trough for over THIRTY years and doing nothing for the country, and lining your own pockets while lobbying for MORE money and votes. These scum bags days are numbered and they know it. For those of you who think Trump is going to start WWIII, You must have been living under a rock for a LONG time. Just before the election, Russia put their troops on full wartime alert not if Trump got elected, but HILARY got elected. WHY? they prefer Trump not because they 'like' him, but because they HATE Hilary. the REASON for this is NOT because of Trump but long before the election, Eric Snowden (low end CIA analyst) went to Russia with Obama/hilary's bag of secret dirty tricks. He had information that freaked russia out so bad that they threatened nuclear war if she got elected. As far as Trump saying 'bad things', BIG DEAL, he talks like a construction worker (a REAL person). The 'wall' is noir to keep the 'mexicans' out, but to keep 20 TONS of cocaine and hundreds of tons of pot coming across the border every month. There is a heroin epidemic nation wide that is out of control.... coming from Mexico. We have no problem at all with Julio coming across the border to pick strawberries as long as he LEGALLY comes across to do it. Its all those bottom feeders that traffic drugs and PEOPLE across the border. We have tens of thousands of drug crimes committed across the country every year and it needs to stop. They are using people as mules to funnel drugs across, then pimp them out as sex slaves once they get across the border.. Don't listen to the fruit loop leftist media slime machine, as all they have are AGENDAS.

If what we were hearing from him was purely in the past I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but much of the atrocious was (mocking women, the disabled, parents, immigrants, other religions, etc) all took place during his campaign. I don't expect that he's likely to be a changed man once he takes office - I'd LOVE to be proven wrong. I will say this, though. I think the media (both traditional and social) that have been mocking him after the golden showers thing came out are WAY out of line. It's no different to the anti-gay "poo puncher" jokes that used to float around. People's sexual kinks or interests should be fodder for public ridicule. Besides, there's enough that we DO have the right to call him on, without invading parts of his persona life that should be off limits. And now I need to go have a shower - I feel a little dirty for having defended him.

As I suggested in one of my earlier posts, by definition, objective analysis is impossible in an environment of political partisanship. This is the case whichever side of the House you would represent in an argument/debate. Much as a Boxing Referee and Judging panel, it is necessary to watch the space between the two opponents to see more clearly the blows being exchanged. There are a number of flaws in the various points you've put forth here. For a host of reasons, I'll not go into detail of any or all of them this forum. Suffice it to say (given your professional capacity), you would be familiar with the concept of 'sacrificial anodes' employed to protect a ship's hull from corrosion. I would put it to you, only a very small proportion of illicit cargoes are transported by 'mules' over land routes. I do not suggest you are wittingly complicit in illicit trade, however in light of ample evidence in the public domain, I would suggest your argument is implausibly naive at best. In terms of illegal immigration, it has been repeatedly demonstrated the vast majority of 'illegals' in the US and elsewhere arrive legitimately, but then overstay their Visas. It appears (like so many others) you've tumbled for misdirection and distraction and completely missed how the trick really works! If you're interested in magic, I'd suggest you start with card tricks. I'd hate to see you actually saw a woman in half!

to the immigration issue, I am on record in here as stating I do not agree asylum seekers should be accepted carte blanche. Health and security vetting is of vital importance. It is necessary to accommodate asylum seekers whilst this vetting takes place. The location and standard of that accommodation may be open to debate. So too the time it ought take to properly screen those people. However, to simply accept all arrivals does not remedy the root causes of the migrant flows, and carries an array of complex implications. (The recent European experience clearly illustrates this point).

being that I lived through a series of presidents from JFK onwards, I think i have a pretty good idea of the political spectrum of things. The main reason Trump got elected is people are SICK of 'politics as usual' in Washington. While there might be some people on both sides of the aisle who have good intentions, they are over shadowed by the majority of CROOKS that are raping the system. This is why Democrats, republicans, blacks, and hispanics voted for Trump.Do a survey of every city in america with the highest crime rates. ALL of them have been run (in to the ground), by democrats for over thirty years. They have been using the ghetto as a modern day plantation, using blacks to farm for votes, then ignoring them for four years, all the while seeding hate for 'whitey', when the democrats are the problem. Many in black america are finally seeing through the smoke screen and are wanting the democrats OUT of power, hence the hundreds of cities and towns in america and a couple thousand counties where Democrats LOST elections. This wasn't just the presidential election, this was one step short of an armed revolt by millions across america against 'the system'.Hispanics who fought to come to America LEGALLY, loathe the idea of people coming across illegally and getting benefits from the government they can't get. I knew a woman who's parents sold everything they owned and drove from columbia to the USA to come in legally. They had NOTHING when they got here but jumped through all the legal hoops to live in america. And they are PROUD of the struggle to come to the U.S.Many republicans are sick of their party 'playing politics' with the democrats, just to keep 'someone else' (Trump), out. they would rather have seen hilary as president, and she isn't out of the woods yet with her criminal activity and people are still pushing for her to do prison time. Currently, we have over two million illegals in our prison system, and they aren't there for traffic violations or over staying their visa, they are there for murder and rape. Trump wants to deport ALL of the hard core criminals back to their home country and if those countries won't take them back (they were career criminals in their home country), he is going to deny Visas for people from those countries wanting to enter the U.S. . As a nation, we have been stepped on for a long time by inept politicians through immigration, trade, etc, that has screwed us over time and agin. It is time we had someone with BALLS to run the show and play some hard ball with these scumbags that want to destroy america internally. I can't wait fopr four to possibly EIGHT years of Donnie in charge (it will take that long to unscrew what Obama screwed), and I will roll on the floor laughing if his DAUGHTER becomes the first female president...for eight MORE years. I would love every second of it just to see the safe space snowflake cupcakes soaking their crying towels with their tears.

he has more decency than many of the politicians and hollywood elites that people worship on a daily basis. How conveniently we forget when he got awards and 'humanitarian service' medals he got for donating to the poor and contributing to inner city projects back in the 80s. He went around with Mohammed Ali doing fund raisers for black inner city youth Ali said he was 'a great man'. He appeared on Oprah and she was asking him why he didn't run for president because his plans were 'so great'. Look up all his interviews on youtube in the 80s when he was a democrat and everyone loved him. but now he is not rubbing shoulders with the hollywood leftist elite anymore, he is evil incarnate. 20 years ago, if he held a $10,000 dollar a plate fund easier at Trump tower, leftist hollywood elitists would be tripping over each other to go there, he was the darling of the media. Maybe he grew a conscious. I just can't wait to hear two words he says to the government bloodsuckers that have been screwing america for decades. Just two words that will eclipse what presidents have said and done for the past thirty years: YOUR FIRED!

An objective assessment of fact will reveal there are members on both sides of the House who have exploited the system to their own advantage and the advantage of lobbyists. It has been demonstrated to be the case worldwide irrespective of political system. That is why it is vitally important people take an interest, and get educated/informed on the basis of objective, verifiable facts. An objective examination of Mr Trump's history and business dealings will show you he is part of the 'elite', and he has been actively involved in the practices cited/perceived as responsible for America's current predicament vis-vis trade, employment, immigration, infrastructure, foreign aid, budget deficits etc etc etc (all of which are major contributory factors to the crime stats in the US). I recently cited a couple of books in the 'Books' thread. You might be interested to borrow them from the library and consider that material in the context of Mr Trump's extensive use of shell companies and tax havens...

When a 'news' channel spits nothing but venom at a person and shows complete bias, it is a pretty sure bet they are hostile. I look for unbiased news reporting. It has been said by many that the latest election has shown the 'death of american Journalism' has happened. There is no sure thing as 'unbiased' news any more. as far as CNN (Clinton News Network, or communist News Network, take your pick), they have nothing but one-sided slime campaigns against Trump because he has left the camp of the left. As far as charities he donated to, these are from the 'reach for the stars' website, one of those 'look at us, we are rich' website where celebrities beat their chests to show how great they are. most of the celebrities on this site won't give him the time of day anymore, when before they would be kissing his feet. Her are some of the charities:Foundation Arnold Palmer Celebrity Fight Night Foundation Children with AIDS David Foster Foundation Friends of Scotland Jimmy Fund Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation Make A Child Smile Appeal Make-A-Wish Foundation Mississippi Animal Rescue League Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center Neurofibromatosis, Inc. Operation Smile Paralyzed Veterans of America Pediatric Epilepsy Project Rainbow PUSH Coalition Raising Malawi Reef Relief Smile Train St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters The Doe Fund UNICEF Wounded Warrior Project He also donated to political parties both left and right, about $600,00.00 to Democrats and about 1,000,000 to Republicans. He is one of few people who have actually 'reached out' to just about everyone. look at the people he invited to talk to: Al Gore (cringe) Micheal Moore (double cringe), various democrats, black community leaders, anyone he can to try to make AMERICA a better place and to UNITE the country. the left hates it because it isn't THEIR idea of the way it should be, so they slime him every chance they get. And Obama SHOULD be in prison, along with hilary. just one reason for that would for over 400,000 dead in syria for a start from him doing nothing except arm radical nutcase groups from all sides with weapons from Libya when it fell, that is what the whole Benghazi cover up was about. The CIA was funneling weapons to Syria from there, and they covered it up and blamed the attack on the embassy on an internet video, and it was a 'random' riot that just happened to occur on the anniversary of 911. And last i checked, 'random' rioters don't use crew served weapons and pre placed mortars on a 'secret' CIA installation. I could write volumes on what he has done (or not done), that made the world a much more dangerous place, and has set America back 50 years racially, economically, and socially. Look up 'fast and furious', when he authorized fully automatic weapons to be shipped to Mexico so they could 'track' them and take out the cartels. Well, they LOST them, and they started turning up at crime scenes that killed U.S. border patrol agents. He covered for the IRS and said 'there is no corruption', when an independent auditor tried to audit the IRS and found over fifty BILLION dollars unaccounted for. they gave up on the audit because the IRS is such a mess. His 'Obamacare' cost $370,000,000.00 just to set up, and it doesn't even work. That was just the 'startup' money. Think about it, he could have pout over one MILLION dollars in to a trust fund for medical benefits for every man, woman, and child in america, and still had 50 million left. The money would have been better spent. It went NOWHERE but in to some redundant bureaucracy that shouldn't exist.the USA has over THREE HUNDRED Bureaucracies, most of which just burn up money. it needs to stop. And i think with Trump, it will.

Lets say that everything they say about Trumps 'shady' business deals is true. It is NOTHING compared to the scams that happen daily in the U.S. government. hundreds of millions of dollars a year just 'evaporate' in to neverland (politician and lobbyists pockets). Read Trumps promise to america for his first hundred days in office. You are right, he KNOWS how to work the system, which makes him the perfect person for the job. It is like hiring a hacker to fix your security issues. He already said eight year term limit for anyone in government service except the military (they don't get $100,000.00 a year pay raises), and anyone who served in government cannot be a lobbyist for six years after they are out (conflict of interest).Washington is a big box of snakes, someone needs to empty the box and crush their heads.

I'd be interested to learn what proportion of donated funds actually reach the people/purpose for which they(ostensibly) exist. What proportion are consumed in administrative overhead (including Directors'/Boards' salaries and expenses)... You will likely find (as is the case with Foreign Aid), the funds which are donated amount to a mere token refund of money extracted by means of profiteering and tax avoidance (if not evasion) in the industries and locales of the people in need of charitable assistance. By way of crude analogy, you might consider the mugger who empties your pockets of all money, retains the banknotes, then tosses the small coins back to you, before kindly smiling for a selfie photo he can post to Facebook to inform his own friends and others of his marvelous philanthropic efforts. I remain sceptical Mr Trump will reverse much, if any at all of the system which has enabled his cohort to become so spectacularly wealthy. Any effort to change the capacity of big business and high net worth individuals to exploit the tax system will be met with strong resistance and threats to investment. This has occurred with monotonous regularity. I think the most likely scenario is that new methods will be devised which enable the incumbents to retain and continue to grow their own wealth, before they close the loopholes which enabled them to become extremely wealthy to begin with. This will reduce the likelihood (if not actually prevent) others will emulate and ultimately usurping their position). This scenario has played out throughout history. Consider the Rothschilds as but one example. Their ancestors became extremely wealthy through what is now called insider trading. They exploited their networks of contacts (and the then very poor system of communications) to acquire and trade on shipping information (amongst other things) not known by the broader market. Insider trading was rendered illegal when it was perceived others may also engage in that practice (and perhaps more effectively and efficiently). Many of Mr Trump's words and actions appear to directly conflict with the precepts underpinning the US Bill of Rights. What do you suppose the Founding Fathers would make of all of this?

So they won't be "lobbyists" they'll be old friends catching up, and if the topic comes up, it just comes up. Noooo, they won't be paid by the company they're lobbying on behalf of.. I mean "casually talking about"... and if the hardware company they happen to have an interest in, is also selling hammers to the company they're "casually talking about" at a 100k per hammer, well, that's just business, right - all above board. The conflict of interest and lobbyist rules have been pulled apart as pointless. trump can make noise about that, but he and everyone knows they're empty words. Trump's contract with America contained a lot of nonsense, many of his promises were things that were beyond his power to grant. He got voted in because America's voting system skews towards being a cult of celebrity. Hilary is some woman in a pant suit, but Trump gave them apprentices and beauty pageants. Like i said, look to the stars is a celebrity 'thump my chest, look what I did' site. I used it because people seem to go by hollywood saying it so it must be true. They are just citing who Trump donated to.and as far as people scrutinizing him about money, as I said before, he can't hold a candle to Recent politicians wasting american tax dollars by the hundreds of millions. At least all his money was done through business interests, not flat out stealing from the taxpayer. He already said he didn't want paid while he was president (already saving americans $500,000 a year), and said he was going to take many vacations (obama spent 85 MILLION dollars on his vacations, and it was taxpayer money).Hilary has been far more corrupt than he could dream of, and has been for close to 30 years, while most of her jobs were 'public service'. How can you be 'dead broke' after leaving the white house, had a job that paid $250,000.00 a year, and be worth 25 MILLION dollars? Not including the clinton foundation, which is worth over 3.5 billion.Have a read of his contract with america for his first 100 days in office. I can't find fault in it.I am SO GLAD we don't have another corrupt politician in office. He for sure can't do worse than Obama or Hilary for that matter. If I didn't have to work on inauguration day, I would be watching it with popcorn and be SMILING !!!

I can't find fault in it. if you can't find any fault with the contract then you have little credibility. Glaring at you like a beacon should be: Labeling China a currency manipulator. EVERY country with a currency does it, USA itself is one of the biggest manipulators. Directing the Sec of Commerce to use every law possible to limit trading houses unfairly impacting on American workers. Which is meaningless. What is "fair" and "unfair"? Buying things cheaply from overseas? If you stop a big business who buys from overseas and sells in the USA, is that 'harming American workers'? The NAFTA, TPP, and tarriff clauses are straight out protectionism. The nonsense about "for every regulation added 2 get removed" doesn't ensure better government, or even less onerous regulation. Simply less rules in total number - eventually. In Australia we have the guideline that cost of new regulation must be fully offset with reduction in existing regulatory burden - they're actually pretty decent guidelines (though I don't know how well they get followed)

As Americans living here now, but who still visit USA regularly and who's children and family still live there, we feel relatively "qualified" to chime in. First, understand that Obama's tyranny left our home country as divided as its been since the civil war. No president in American history has polarised its citizens so profoundly. No president or first lady has spent more $. No president has offended more world leaders. No president has failed its people so miserably. He has no legacy. He has nearly destroyed the country and its economic system. That said, Mr Trump represents, for hundreds of millions of people, the message that people have had enough. Enough of elitist career politicians. It didn't matter who the non politician running was. That person was going to win. How could he possibly do worse than his predecessors? He spent his money and his alone to get there. He has earned the wealth he has, through successful business. Yeah he's had failures, that's part of success. The Clintons on the other hand have obtained 100% of their wealth through theft, deception, and from lobbyists and terrorists. All of whom have agendas they want propagated. That, until now, has always been the way of the President... push forward the Agendas of the people who put you there. It happens here too folks, like it or not. So now, when we talk to family and friends (NOT listen to the slanted and proven wrong media), we see that people have genuine HOPE. People are beginning to feel like maybe, just maybe... they might be free to get back to work and make things happen, without worry and fear that the government will take it all and/or destroy it. Trump has really little to do but carry a message that allows people to feel it's ok to do what they know and love to do, and America will be not just ok, but great once again. Will all that come to be? Who knows. Time will tell. But I can tell you over-regulation, massive govt, and listening to the elitist, biased media is NOT the answer. Every govt in the world is run with 2 core missions. All decisions are made based on the potential outcome's probability of achieving either or both. Control and greed. If something will provide the govt greater control over individuals and line their pockets, it qualifies. If it doesn't, it isn't going to happen. The developed world politicians have merely mastered the art of deception, masking behaviours with meaningless words. Words people listen to as a result of the media's artful way of presenting. Mr. Trump is the first President to ascend to the office who's background is not one of political manipulation. He creates real jobs that create things and contribute. Govt jobs do not. Govt jobs suck money out of the economy, never to be replaced. He has some very valuable experience. His decisions have affected him. A politicians decisions dont affect them. If they make a bad one... oh well, no skin off their ass. So I gotta believe a guy used to living with the ramifications of his decisions has a better track record and likelihood of doing some good, than some elitist, disconnected jerkoff who operates as though nothing can touch him/her. Sorry for the ramble, but I just felt this perspective needs heard. The media is full of shit and the election just exposed that. Think about that. - Posted from rhpmobile

As an interested observer I can see why he got elected, like we vote Greens or One Nation or Derry Hinch it's a protest vote, I get that. Except he went all the way.It amuses me that he calls an actress who has won 170 awards overrated and yet somehow 6 bankruptcies qualifies him as a successful business man. What bothers me most about him is his penchant for abuse, rather than answer a question or address the issue his first reaction is to smear, denigrate, and badmouth the messenger. From my point of view I saw little policy in the campaign from either side, just personal attacks and threats and abuse in both directions. Maybe he will do some good, maybe he will wreak havoc, I have a feeling though he will self destruct. I am not liking where democracy is headed, economic theory says that good decisions need perfect information ( I did say theory) and that is far from the case, at least here the election debate mostly revolves around policy rather than personality. We should be grateful for one small mercy.Peace. P.S. If I were American I would have voted for Jill Stein. And no I'm not a communist !

You know Australia is the laughing stock of the developed world, politically, right? Australia cannot be taken seriously because there's no guarantee the person in charge today will be around tomorrow. And there is no system in place to ensure projects or promises made by powers today will be upheld tomorrow. Its like trying to do business with a company who will toss each other under the bus at the drop of a hat, then claim no responsibility for anything when "the new guy" takes over. So I'd hardly be using this country's nazi-like control freak, over regulation as any kind of example. You only have peace because you have no borders to protect, and a miniscule population unwilling to stand up for themselves or really anything. Happy to sit and let the govt think for them and choke the will to live out of people with more rules and baloney than most thinking minds can conceive. Peace. - Posted from rhpmobile

I'd argue Obama and Trump were both elected on a platform of change. The last election was a vote for change. "Change we can believe in" "Yes, we can" "Make America Great Again" "Potato Potato" I'm not sure why an active business guy would not struggle with conflict of interest, where a career politician would. One thing I like about Trump is his changing party affiliation, I think it is a positive that affiliation shifts as a parties politics change.

Nasty much AZOZ? Whilst our political system isn't perfect, I much prefer one in which the power of governance rests with the parliament as elected by their constituents, and not a single elected demagogue. I'd address other if your concerns, but I doubt you'd be interested in listening. Comparing what we have to a nazi regime shows immense disrespect for the kind of horrors inflicted by the actual nazis during WW2, and is just flat out wrong. And one of my pet peeves? Throwing the word "peace" at the end of your post like it's supposed to cancel out the vitriol? If you dislike t so much here, you are welcome to go back to the wonderful world of freedom that Trump is apparently creating for you. Good luck with that.

Characterising the system as you did suggests you might not be familiar with how a lot of other countries do things. Others who use the same system as us are Canada, or the UK, and there is an equivalent in the German election of Chancellor - in Germany the Bundestag can yank their Chancellor at any time so long as they can get a majority vote on the replacement. Didn't the USA sign up to treaties impacting how your businesses do business, that the incoming president has vowed to tear up? Aren't they proposing to do that with the healthcare system? that hardly seems like continuity of projects.

Obama has been a disgrace to america, the first thing he did when elected was start division by going on his 'world apology tour', and pretty much spit in the face of all the troops that fought and the families of those who's loved ones died, and spit in the face of our allies in the mid-east and around the world. When Obama took office, Iraq was a fragile democracy, Afghanistan was on the verge of Democracy, Iran was contained, and There were no problems in other countries in the mid east. since he took office, the entire region is on fire, with millions of 'refugees' (mostly military age men), raping and burning their way throughout England and Europe.People whine about Trump 'putting up a wall', when Hungary already has one, allowing no males in, only women and children, and those go in to camps until they can be processed as non-hostile. To push the issue, the hungarian police guard the border with 'guard pigs'.Russia invaded the Ukraine and Crimea, Syria is on fire with over 400,000 dead (some from chemical weapons from Iraq that 'didn't' exist), China is building unsinkable aircraft carriers all along their coast, and Iran has troops in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.Trump caused such a stir because he is not political establishment elite. He will actually DO something for the country, and not push agendas and do political posturing. He inherited a real mess, but world leaders KNOW he won't play games, so they will be more likely to work with him as opposed to being hostile.Plus, all those career politicians will be GONE! drain the swamp!I can wait for tomorrow!!! I have to work but will watch re-runs.and I already bought pizza :)

I have been here over ten years, and still have trouble wondering how Australians don't sometimes march on Canberra and burn the place down. You elect someone to be in charge, that is great, but if for some reason he becomes unpopular, or does something 'wrong', they just boot him and put someone else in charge and the people haven't had a voice in it at all. While Austrlia and the USA are 'sister' countries (along with Canada), our political system is way different and as much as we have much in common, there are a lot of cultural differences. From what I see here, the two main parties, labor and liberal which I believe Australians consider labor left and liberal right, would be two versions of left in the states, Liberal being 'middle left' in the U.S. , while labor is far left. The way I see it, there is no right wing here. And because of our cultural 'upbringing', that is what has shaped our political beliefs. It seems to me that most Australians expect the government to 'do more' to 'make things better', when in the states, with most of us, the opposite is true. we want the government as far out of our lives as possible. Kepp a functioning military together, and the infrastructure of the country, thats it.In the states, we will give up the 'social good' for more personal freedom, where in Australia, people seem happy giving up personal freedom for more social good, so that is why there is sometimes a 'disconnect' with people trying to work out the USA. And the fruit-loops in hollywood and the media don't help the situation by pushing their agendas and making the world think that everyone thinks like they do. We HIRE hollywood to entertain us. they are nothing but marionettes, we are not worried about their opinion of politics, just shut up and perform for us. They have threatened to move to Canada, but none of them have (please MOVE). As far as the media in the states, there is no unbiased reporting in the U.S. anymore, 90% of it is riddled with AGENDA, and it has been said this election has proved the death of american journalism, as they only push agendas, and don't 'report news' anymore.

The first thing Obama did was start division? Really? There was none there before? You're assessment of Australian politics shows a fundamental misunderstanding of our electoral system. I've NEVER voted for a leader of our country - because I've never lived in the electorate of someone who was chosen by the majority party to be leader. It's a system I largely support, because it's responsive to the needs and interests of the electorates. It's not perfect, but it's a far sight better than what a lot of countries have. I also don't think your assessment of Australia as "far and middle left" is at all accurate either. We certainly do have a right wing. However, if you've got any power to ship them off back home to hang out with your mate Donnie, where the real right wing live, that'd be great. I'll help them pack. Enjoy your pizza and rerun. I will be watching too, at some point, because I think it's important that leaders like Trump know that people ARE watching, and that he will be held to account for his words and actions. I hope you're right about him, and he improves the lives of the people he is sworn to serve - all of them, even those who voted against him, and those who disagree with him. But the way he has spoken out about women, the disabled, migrants, those of other religions and sexual orientations? I can't see that happening. A man who can't let a perceived slight from a celebrity at an awards ceremony go without launching into a twitter tirade should not have nuclear codes. - Posted from rhpmobile

That is the fundamental misunderstanding of most australians. You don't know what right wing is because you were brought up in a far left society. No one can deny that Australia is a 'social Democracy', meaning social-list. When 'Slick Willie' sexual assault and rapist-in-chief was in charge, I couldn't believe anyone could possibly be as bad as him. Compared to Obama, Bill Clinton is a reagan republican.I do hope you watched his inauguration, because he reached out to EVERYONE, even those who hate him, and will not pander to special interest groups. He is not against 'migrants', only Mexican drug cartels that are pushing tons (literally) of drugs across our border daily, and using illegals to do it, killing people on BOTH sides of the border. Last year Mexico had close to 20,0000 drug related deaths and injuries, not from taking the drugs, but from drug wars over there on WHO gets to ship it north to the U.S.Do you know the contractor who built Trump tower? a WOMAN, the first female construction contractor ever to land a major construction contract. Trump does not see gender or color when he hires someone, he sees who is capable of the job.His 'mocking the disabled' was so taken out of context it is pathetic. look at dozens of other clips where he never mentioned any disabled reporter and did the same thing. He didn't even mention or refer to one in the event in question. This is a prime example of what he says about 'fake news'.As far as the whole 'sexual orientation issue', it should NEVER be up to the president to even get involved in it. I always thought 'sex' was pretty much a private thing between two consenting adults, not the president pushing trans-gneder bathrooms in elementary schools or threatening to pull federal funding if they dont. There have already been several incidents where young girls were sexually assaulted in 'transgender' bathrooms. The 'men for boys' association (yes, it is an actual group), is pushing the age limit of sodomy with a child from 16 to 12. That is NOT 'equality' but promoting sexual assault on the innocent. Trump goes to Twitter because he can't trust the media. they slime him every chance they get as does the hollywood snob elitists.this all boils down to him being ONE of THEM, and switching sides.as far access to nuclear codes, he is BY far less likely to use them than Hilary would . Not sure if you kept up with news just before the election, but Russia had troops on full time war alert and had troops massed to push West if hilary got elected. The moment Trump won the election, he backed off, then Obama sends 4500 troops in to North-Eastern Europe to antagonize them. don't poke the bear.I lived over in 'that neck of the woods' where Islam is the flavor of the day, and trust me, you dont want it here. The internet is even restricted over there, you for sure won't find RHP in Saudi Arabia. "Radical Muslims behead the infidel, moderate muslims hold the infidel's feet": Marco Polo. That was said almost a thousand years ago, thing haven't changed much. you don't want Sharia law here, and we for sure don't want it in the states. There are already Sharia zones in Texas, of all places. There have been more than a few honor killings, and one in Houston (close to where I am from), where an Iraqi immigrant cut his daughters throat for dressing 'seductive' and sneaking out to her senior prom with a non-Muslim ( just a white american kid). He got away from the cops and still hasn't been caught.Trump is no where near right wing, and is pushing for AMERICA for a change. We have spent untold Trillions of dollars on efforts outside america, it is time they 'go their own' and we spend the money on AMERICA. We built up the military of Japan, South Korea, NATO, and various other countries around the world and they NEVER paid us for it. That stopped a few hours ago, as if they want our support, they pay for it. We regularly spend over 50 billion dollars a year supporting countries who hate us or help other countries who hate us. that stopped a few hours ago. He will work with allied countries, but it won't be a one way street anymore. While I am all for escorting dictators to hell, I am sick of going over to some far off land, fighting, winning, then some other scumbag come in and make our sacrifice for nothing. I Understand Trump not wanting us to play 'mall cop' for the rest of the world though. If someone wants our military aid, we go in on the understanding that we don't play mall cop, but go in there to kick some ass. Sorry for the book, but there is so much you don't see because of that leftist media slime machine. live in the U.S. for ten years like i lived here. And the pizza was good, even at 5am.

...I am old enough to recall the general atmosphere of fear & loathing that permeated the lead up to Ronald Reagan's election. I was a rabid Marxist in those days, the Cold War was HOT and the world seemingly about to come to an end. It didn't. Ronnie made a pretty fair fist of the job in the end (2 terms and survived an assassination attempt to boot). Things feel about the same now. With a bit of luck The Donald will emulate Ronnie and have his Brandenburg Gate moment too...google Reagan Brandenburg gate speech to see one of the more inspiring geopolitical moments of the last century..."Mr Gorabchov, tear down this wall!" Ronnie was fortunate the USSR was in a terminal tail-spin anyway and Boris the Dancing Bear had been replaced by a man of Gorbachov's presience....but there are parallels with ISIS and dare I say it, China, that may leave people a decade hence saying, "wow...I would not have dreamed that was possible, especially from Trump" Kisses to all

I was in the Army when Reagan was president, and we were constantly on alert, waiting for 'the balloon to go up' (mushroom cloud). When you are prepping for WWIII, you go in to the enemies' territory and cause general destruction and mayhem first, assassinating high ranking officials, blowing up key installations, etc. I think it was MUCH closer than people think. The chief of Nato, Alexander Haig, almost got blown up, thirty foot crater in the road and the terrorists 'fortunately' took out the wrong car, still blew the windows out of his. They broke in to a hawk missile site where I was stationed and blew up a radar dish and a launcher. We had bombings almost weekly, so all this stuff happening now is just a repeat of history. Fortunately, Gorbachev could see the writing on the wall and threw in the towel, as Ronnie out-spent him in military hardware, so it was over without anyone firing a shot, which is good.I think Trump will do economic warfare as opposed to armies. While he has great respect for the military, he will only use it as a last option. The days of sacrificing troops over politics is OVER. Trump will use the economic might of the U.S. to negotiate as opposed to warfare. I think great things will happen for America in the next few years.

...I suspect brinkmanship akin to Cold War Diplomacy may be necessary in the coming years. Obama's last act on the international stage, i.e. throwing Israel under the bus, will not be repeated. For the next 4 years we will see a complete reversal of his Chamberlain-like US stance. I fully expect the global peace movement to ramp up opposition to Trump as he starts to take positions in the areas of the world Obama abandoned. As this happens I will keep in mind that deterrence is also aimed at preventing war...and it has a proven track-record, albeit scary.

I hope that it doesn't get as bad as The Cold War, as it was close to thermonuclear hot. I think the global 'peace' movement will cause more problems than it solves. These 'peace' protests are full of anarchists (some professionally paid) to cause mayhem, riot, and set the planet on fire. I think Trump will project 'peace through strength', which hopefully will cause any potential adversary to back off. Putin won't be a problem, as he (along with most Russians) RESPECT strength. He pushed Obama because Obama had no balls. As far as Israel, we will go back to supporting them completely, as they are the only democracy in a region of theocratic governments and kingdoms.

As a complete outsider without any bias toward Democrat or Republicans I would just be worried Full stop that someone with no Track record is suddenly placed in a position of such power?? Bit like pulling a racehorse out of the stable and getting him to plough a field - he might be great at making money but totally ill equipped to do the job asked of him. The difficulty I see it is that you have just thrown all your faith into the racehorse to plough fields for the next three years without checking if he is even strong enough to turn a sod over! What will he do when he fails - and there will be times he will. Is he the megalomaniac painted or a caring, intelligent balanced individual with diplomatic skill. From what we have seen this far he isn't the latter - god help us all if he is the former. He is a complete unknown and it doesn't matter if you are pro or against him we should all be worried by that fact as he will hold the reins of the most powerful country in the world and his knee jerk could cause untold damage to the equilibrium of the entire planet - which is already on a knife edge. I take it that Trump was put into power by middle class America because of the policies he espoused during his campaign. - surely. I would be therefore very worried either as a citizen or not as to how he implements these policies. Protectionism seems to be the underlying current to all of his so called ideas, however unworkable. This may well give a short term gain but long term will accelerate the USA's slide from being a world superpower. If you aren't playing the game then you can no longer control it. Will he vilify the Far East as he threatens which will in turn turn Australia away from the US and towards China - dangerous for Australia in terms of security but much more sensible economically if the cultural differences can be overcome. Loses a major ally in this corner of the world and leaves Team USA a player down. Leave Europe far more to their own devices both militarily and economically - pushes the European Union back to the forefront and if they can unite (doubtful but possible) then the US loses another couple of major allies. Will he really start a rather ugly racist blame game against coloured minorities and immigrants - very easy to blame the minority for the majorities woes. How will he entice business back to the US - the only solution is tariffs and anti globalisation measures. That looks like a great way to hand power to any country strong enough to use the opportunity. Russia or China - combined they would be unstoppable and they are so close geographically. Vacuums are the most volatile and unpredictable situations and almost all of Trumps so called policies seem to leave power and economic vacuums in their wake - when the shit hits the fan what will he do! The easiest way to get out of his problems is to wage war on them and this could force some very frightening scenarios especially if he has ripped up a majority of the military treaties as promised. Whenever a Trump supporter is reminded of some of these issues I have listened to them say "oh - he doesn't really mean that. It's just the sentiment that he is trying to put across. WTF - who supports a candidate that doesn't mean what they say. If he doesn't mean it - what does he mean - if he does mean it half of his supporters have been duped into believing it was only rhetoric. Alarm bells should be ringing in every corner of the world as the potential for serious disunity in the USA begins to unfold. I hope to God the racehorse can pull that plough but I sure of hell wouldn't have placed all my money on him doing so! Blind faith is a seriously stupid way to elect a president. I whole-heartedly agree that this presidency shows many signs and hopes of a very "Reagan-like" administration. "Lets get off our asses and get to work". Gotta love a guy willing to bust the balls of his predecessors right in front of them! People need to put their big boy and girl pants on and stop being so "offended" by everything. We've become a world of pussies. Hell, nowadays the media would call Reagan racist for delivering his famous and history changing sermon on the mount speech! Teddy Roosevelt would be rolling in his grave at the recent status of mankind. Though I gotta think he'd be smiling now at Mr. Trump. Donnie speaks his mind. The media cant deal with it b/c their whole world is about hidden agendas and deception. They cant relate to or understand anything else. - Posted from rhpmobile

I think the media are getting a bad rap in all of this. The debacle over what is "fact", when Trump and his staff try to spin things one way and then deny they've ever said things that are on the record, or when they try and pass flatbout lies as "alternate facts" - quite frankly, I think that's terrifying. He is determined that his view on things will be the only one heard, and that he'll just steamroll over any voices of dissent and disagreement, and claim that the media are misrepresenting him if they present a truth that doesn't fit in with his orange-coloured view of how things are. He's proving, again and again, that he isn't open to debate, or to hearing opinions, and he will make up the truth as he goes along. Utterly terrifying. AZOZ, I don't think we've become pussies. I think we've largely become people who care about the impact of what we say and do on those around us. The success of the protest marches over the past couple of days would indicate that. I think Trump would prefer a world in which other voices are not heard. He may speak his mind, but he doesn't listen to anyone or anything else. That's not Democracy, that's totalitarianism.

you don't demonize a class of people because they might happen to disagree, which is exactly what the leftist media and special interest groups have done. I am a white, southern male, therefore, I am a nose-picking inbred redneck who is married to my cousin and i have six toes on each foot. EXACTLY why Trump was elected, because tens of millions of americans got tired of being stereotyped and flat out demonized because they might disagree with something, so they are called homophobes, racist, sexist, etc.And as far as Trump being 'qualified' for the job, he is BY FAR more qualified than the previous clown in chief. Politicians are good at one thing: STEALING MONEY to push their political agenda. The days of politics as usual in Washington are OVER. Obama set half the mideast on fire to support his agenda, then blamed it on an anti-islamic video, when things turned to crap. The P.C. revolt isn't just happening in the USA, it is happening world wide. NO MORE of people dictating what we are to believe or not believe or to set our moral compass for us (or LACK of one). England is leaving the EU, along with other countries in eastern and western europe FIRING all their far left nutcase 'leaders' that have been tunring their country in to war zones and wrecking the economy for their 'special interests'.And 'tolitarian' is dictating what someone is to believe, and if you don't go by the standard propaganda slant on things, you are demonized and ostracized from society. This is what happened in Nazi Germany. It was a free and democratic election, and hitler was voted in by the MAJORITY, just like Obama was. He immediately set about brainwashing the youth (hitler jugend), just like Obama set about instilling his idea of a social order in America's schools and society, while demonizing anyone who disagreed with his policies. Hitler also had TOTAL CONTROL of the media...like Obama did. Joseph Goebbels would be jealous of hollywood today. Trump is exercising the ultimate freedom for America by taking the government AWAY from these ass-clowns in Washington, and giving it BACK to the people. And as far as the 'success' of these protests recently, it only showed how flat out ignorant and biased they are. They protested Trumps wife posing in slinky lingerie when she was a model, but walk out in public with a VAGINA costume on or topless. how classy is THAT? Do they even KNOW what they are protesting? the demand 'equal rights', but don't want to go through the pain that a man does just on a regular days work. Combat role in the military? please.

Do they even KNOW what they are protesting? the demand 'equal rights', but don't want to go through the pain that a man does just on a regular days work. Combat role in the military? please. Wow. Ok, firstly, most feminists I know, and indeed a lot of the media I saw at the time, protested AGAINST the attacks on Melania when her photos came out. Ditto the current taunts at their son, Barron, who should be off limits. I, and a great many of my my peers, decried her speech which was directly drawing from Michelle Obama's, but in terms of Melania's right to appear in lingerie, or indeed topless, we were very supportive of that, as was a lot of the "left-wing media" as you refer to them. The pussy hats weren't designed to be classy - they were designed to make a point. That point is that our pussies are OURS - to do with as we wish, to display or not as we wish - and they are NOT there to be grabbed by an entitled demigogue with an over-inflated sense of his own self-importance. Yes, we know what we are protesting - we are protesting the inherent inequalities in society, and in politics, which still see women as inferior, as property, as less than capable or worthy or important. As for the "equal pay" issue - well, that's a whole other minefield. The fact is that there are definite gaps between the genders in terms of pay, rights, and opportunities in almost every country. There are exceptions to the rule, absolutely, and in some sectors the differences are not so profound, thanks in part to the women throughout history who have marched, protested and fought for equality. I do agree that if a woman is unable to carry out the duties of a job, she shouldn't be able to do so - in the same way that men who are unable to carry out the duties of a job, he shouldn't be able to do so either. But I don't think that decision should rest on whether I have a Y chromosome or not.

Sometimes I think it is all just a theater. Entertainment for the masses. Gladiators on a global scene. But, other times I see all the hidden threats. It is very hard for someone outside the system to make any changes. People in power who are against Trump are arrogant in their belief that they are in control of the system and therefore invincible. World is sick and exhausted of all the bloodshed they created in their quest for more power and control while ‘spreading democracy'. If they can't make Trump succumb to their will, they may succeed in their foolishness, in forcing him to create his own police in order for him to feel safe and surrounded with trusting people. The history repeats... Even if he weakens with time, people's attitudes towards establishment and bureaucracy never will and the tension in USA between those opposing sides will only grow. Shrinking middle class demands more, growing precariat feels disempowered and is not afraid as they don’t have much to lose. It’s a world trend. Hollywood illusion that we are all together 'good guys' is fake. Our interests differ and this is the real reason why dissent needs to be monitored.(Ms)

...but for all his noise and bluster (and there's a lot of it, and it's genuinely ugly), I don't think Trump is the real danger. He's a narcissist and thin-skinned and vindictive, but he's also too unfocused and (by many reports) lazy to be really dangerous. What is dangerous is the team he's surrounded himself with, who will pursue a behind the scenes agenda which could be seriously damaging, and the Republicans in general, who now have no one to challenge them and will no doubt put in place regressive policies which will impact women's health, education, the poor and many others negatively. I think the next four years are very unlikely to be business as usual in America.

Sickening in the extreme. This makes about as much sense as me not feeling safe where I live and pushing for government money to buy me a gun because it is my fundamental human right for safety. If I feel I need a gun, I buy one myself, i am not going to FORCE someone who doesn't believe in guns to buy one for me.Compare abortion laws in the states to Australia and you will see why so many americans LOATHE the idea of abortion. Partial birth abortion is turning a FULL TERM baby around in the womb until only its head is still inside, then taking a syringe and sucking the childs brains out.FULL TERMlet that sink in. Roe vs Wade was the law legalizing Abortion in the U.S. . At the time, it was only for rape, incest, and the health of the mother. Now it is on demand, and a 13 year old can have an abortion without her parents knowledge. “Hollywood illusion that we are all together 'good guys' is fake. Our interests differ and this is the real reason why dissent needs to be monitored."(Ms) "Could you expand on this point Ms Cat? I'm interested in what you mean." (Home Eric) The fake is the notion that we all belong to one "good happy family" and bad guys are on the other side of that thin red line. That line is much more blurred that we were let to believe. The reality is that any one of us, at any moment in time, can become a bad guy... an outcast. Not many people understand that. Movies are one thing and they can be and often are used to simplify and trivialise things. Our need to belong is often used by others only to achieve specific goals and it seems we have a short memory. You can often hear the phrase "We are all in this together". But we are not. Once we understand that, we become dangerous and potential threat to status quo, therefore monitoring us is crucial for maintaining existing power relations. That's why we have global monitoring system and universal tagging.(Ms)

I've tried to be considerate of your views in a great many posts, which conflict on so many levels with my own. But I'm sorry, you've lost credibility with me on your rhetoric on abortion. Firstly, full term abortions are not a thing. If, in the third trimester a pregnancy needs to be ceased because of the health of the mother, it's done so through delivery, NOT abortion. Secondly, abortions aren't a convenience, an afterthought that women undertake because they were too lazy to use birth control. They are a difficult, emotionally traumatic procedure. Nor are they performed willy nilly by medical professionals, who ensure that a woman choosing to have an abortion is fully aware of the consequences of the procedure, and is emotionally prepared for it. To call it murder is overlaying your own emotional reaction to it, and I understand that's how many people feel, but demonising people who choose to have an abortion for the many and complex reasons they do doesn't help. In the same way, for example, that I would also argue calling the act of killing someone during wartime "murder" is unhelpful and unnecessarily inflammatory. In regards to the document that Trump signed, that Peachy was referring to, it doesn't stop funds for abortions. What it does is restricts funds for other medical aid if the organisation receiving chooses to present abortion as an option as part of their medical advice. US federal funding for foreign aid medical programs is not allowed to be used to fund abortions already - this goes further, /'d stops that money being used for programs if they even provide information about abortions. As for your tax dollars being spend on abortions - well, mine get spent on a whole lot of programs I don't agree with. I don't support smoking at all, but my tax dollars go towards medical support for people who choose to continue to smoke despite the overwhelming scientific evidence that it will cause health problems. I'm anti war, and would rather not have to have my tax dollars spent on a military, but recognise that many people I respect see the need for it. Our tax dollars get spent on a lot of things we don't personally agree with. That's how it works, so that everyone's needs are met. For the record, I wouldn't have an abortion - and I was in a position when I was a teenager when it was an option I seriously considered. But to not have one was my choice. I've supported people who have, and it was heart breaking. By that was their choice, for their own varied, sometimes personal, sometimes financial, sometimes health reasons. They deserve the right to have access to the proper health care required to support them through that, whether you or I like it or not.

If I feel I need a gun, I buy one myself, i am not going to FORCE someone who doesn't believe in guns to buy one for me.By this logic shouldn't all federally funded projects be stopped, since on any given thing that receives federal funding it is doubtless that you can find 10 million Americans who think that it shouldn't get any subsidy from the Feds. Or at the least it's advocating a complete "user pays" system, no tax at all, the govt just sells a ticket for admission to everything. Would the fireman only arrive if you bought a fire-assistance package for the month? What about vaccines for children? VFC is a federally funded to provide vaccines to children who otherwise would get them due to financial hardship. The USA is famous for having a solid community of anti-vaxx nuts. Why do we provide anti-vaxxers money to vaccinate others? Well, it turns out that it's better for everyone, including the public purse - if you top up the herd immunity and stop epidemics from running rampant. Some things are funded as a necessity - military for example. Others are done because in the long run it costs the public purse more than if they didn't do anything. Subsiding an abortion, saves you on welfare and other costs later on. This is a well established fact. It would cost America MORE to stop people having abortions - but in a way it is very shrewd of Trump, because it is a long lasting "legacy" and even at two terms he's out while the full effect of the reversal is only growing exponentially for the poor suckers who come later. Full term doesn't mean viable. People have been forced to carry a fetus to full term despite abnormalities that aren't compatible with life, because they didn't find out until too late. Would you apply this "stand up for the helpless" stance beyond the realms of abortion? perhaps to the military? it's arguably just "murder by proxy", paying someone else to commit the murder - who is worse, the people who order it or the people inside it profiting from death.

A simple Go Ogle search indicates an array of people and organisations closely monitoring and tracking Trump's record on promise delivery... What of Trump's promises to reveal his taxation position? What of his failure to place his corporate interests in a Blind Trust (to avert problems of Conflict of Interest)? What of his long history of claims of having made large charitable donations, which actually turned out to be donations elicited from other people and organisations which were merely onforwarded by Trump's charitable foundation, but claimed in his own name? What of Trump's dismissal of Attorney General Sally Yates when she refused to act on a Presidential Order widely held to be unconstitutional? I find the silence of/lack of response by some clear Trump supporters in respect of several issues raised against or countered to Trump/Trump supporters in this (and other) fora quite interesting. Actually, I always find it interesting to gauge the response of Partisans when presented with factual data which conflicts with their preferred view of the world. I should point out, this is not because I get a kick out of conflict. Rather, I'm particularly interested to learn the truth of most any given matter. The truth is what it is, whatever anyone has to say about it. Learning the truth requires examination of a broad range of sources and objectively testing for correlation/corroboration. My Dad always used to say, "A wise man may change his mind; a fool, never." I'm given to believe willingness to examine issues based on fact, and to shift position when appropriate to the facts of a situation, and to admit (and correct) error when it occurs, ought never be considered weak. If anything, it would be a genuine sign of maturity, character, and integrity. It never ceases to amaze me how many political partisans obstinately cling to factually incorrect arguments for the sake of loyalty to their preferred party. Of course, Trump's Presidency is still very much in its infancy. I don't believe they're off to a very good start at all. Years from now, I wonder how many people will deny they ever voted for him (?)

There are MILLIONS of americans who think Abortion is murder and hate paying taxes being of 'federally funded' abortion. What women's rights are in danger here? the only thing lost was having SOMEONE ELSE pay for something they think is as wrong as two left feet. Nothing is stopping them from paying for an abortion themselves. And yes, there is a plan in the works to defund planned parenthood for the same reason. He is going so fast, people can't keep up with him, and I am so glad that there is finally someone in Washington who doesn't pander to special interest groups, and ignores both the left and the right, and could care less about public opinion polls (whining cry babies) guiding his policies.

If will point out that you are the one who has done a significant amount of name-calling in this thread, all the while railing against us lefty feminists who accuse Trump supporter she of being redneck hicks. But I digress. But I'll harp on the abortion funding point for a minute. If you're going to debate a point, for the love of God or whatever else you might consider holy, please at least recognise some facts. Like, for example, the fact that federal funds for humanitarian funds were never used for abortions. It was already illegal. What has now been taken off the table is the opportunity for medical and aide agencies to even talk about it - so, in AIDS ravaged regions, for example, a mother who is pregnant due to sexual abuse, will not be able to get advice about the possibility of terminating the pregnancy - an outcome that may very well be in the best interests of both the woman and her unborn child. Facts, in my humble opinion, are always preferable to the alternative.

I've got to say I strongly disagree with you on this point. Politics impacts so much of our everyday lives; much more than many people would seem to recognise (or perhaps wish to acknowledge). Vast numbers of honest, hardworking people have lost their lives over many centuries to secure the right to participate in the running of democratic societies such as ours. This carries with it a certain level of responsibility (to the memory of our forebears, and to our heirs and decendants). It is repeatedly demonstrated the events and circumstances popularly complained of, protested, subject of Court Actions/Legal dispute, and/or violently fought over all around the world take place when people fail to pay sufficient attention, and/or fail to discuss, think, and understand the broader implications of political (and other) decisions that are made in their name.

You will note throughout my posting history seeking to discuss issues, I have quite purposely drawn attention to sources representative of all sides of politics. You will note I have also purposely stated my belief it is necessary to analyse matters on the basis of verifiable fact. Most every item of reading material I have quoted is based on research and includes reference sources. I too have travelled extensively over many years, including periods of military service and employment in multinational companies. I have lived and worked in/under various political, economic, religious and cultural settings. In all of that time, I consistently observed there is "his side, her side, and the truth (which is invariably found somewhere in between)". Your own rhetoric appears blindly ideological. On the basis of what I have seen in this forum and elsewhere, I believe you will be one of many, many people who will be left feeling utterly betrayed by Mr Trump and his cohort once the implications of his words and actions take their full course.

Quoting 'yankmychain56' Part of the reason America is the way it is, is BECAUSE we are extreme right, left, and everything in between. That is called FREEDOM. When an entire society is all on the basic same political spectrum, that is dangerously heading towards a dictatorship. I agree with the first part. Forgive me if I am wrong, but it appears you are suggesting that having such opposing views within a country is a good thing? That one side (the left) is NOT in dire need of eradication... With Trump, EVERYONE that disagrees with him is branded as a "leftist". Is it possible to be on the right or far right, and still disagree with something he does? Because even republicans that don't like him are branded "closet" leftists. I disagree with the second part. A dictatorship has someone in control regardless of whether the majority are on his/her side. If most the residents of a country are on side of the leader, he is just that, a popular leader. Different countries in the world are socially more left and more right. Some of the most left wing countries include the Nordic area countries, such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and others like Iceland, Netherlands, Canada etc. Countries not anywhere near dictatorships. A dictator does whatever he wants regardless of the impact, and arrives either by force or having only a single party to elect, or overstays his welcome (perhaps changing the law so he can do so). Technically a dictator can be popular, but then he has little need for such power if the people welcome his choices anyway. Trump is smart is using the expression "make America great again". Because he does not elaborate on when the last time it was great. Two people standing beside each other at a Trump rally could have completely opposing views on why and when America was last "great". Person A's view of greatness might be at a time when Person B was impoverished and persecuted.
