Cap’n No Beard Quest 2019

June 09 2019

Ah yes, Dear Partakers of the Pie, ‘tis time for another Cap’n No Beard Quest. You should all know the rules by now, but for those who may not, here they are: 1: Six (6) questions shall be asked (and in no particular order). 2: A question shall be posted by either myself (or the Cap’n) at 8pm every consecutive evening (starting Sunday 9th June) until all six questions have been posted. 3: The first person to post the correct answer for that particular question shall be awarded 3 points. Appropriate time shall be given for answers to appear so those questers without “instant posting” privileges are not disadvantaged (so it’s important to post your answer straight away). 4: The person accumulating the most points at the end of the 6 questions shall be awarded a bottle of plonk by the Cap’n 5: In the event of a tie, a sudden death challenge shall occur. HOWEVER... As usual, as is Cap’n No Beard’s style, when all the 6 correct answers are put in the correct order, they ALSO reveal the means to solve something else. Be the first to solve THAT, and you shall be awarded a bottle of the Cap’n finest Dom Perignon. Good luck Questers! This be Ob1 and the Cap’n.

Here we go. Remember that the questions may not be in order, but that doesn’t matter at this stage. If you think you know the answer then post it immediately. The points for this particular question will be awarded before 8pm tomorrow night. Quest Question Number 5: What is the number commonly referred to as the “number of humanity”? Obi1

Update: 6 is not the answer the Cap’n was looking for. Sorry Peachy! - although I can see why you thought that (with 6 being the number of “man”). This is a hard question to start off with, but as you all know, the Cap’n will make you work hard for the prize! X Obi1

It would appear that Shells is correct with her answer. Nicely done Shells! 👍 For, as the Cap’n informs me, in the science of numerology, the number that is commonly referred to as the “number of humanity” is the number 5 (five). He is a tricky bugger that Cap’n No Beard! However, as the rules stipulate, before Shells can be awarded any points, we have to wait to see if any other correct answers pop up in sequence before her post (it’s a time lag thing). Irrespective of that, the next question shall be posted at 8pm Monday night, and still it’s anyone’s game! Ob1

I can promise you that the quest questions are posted at 8pm, but due to my instant posting privileges being revoked some time ago, I don’t know exactly when the questions actually appear up on the thread. You must be patient my petal, as the questions will show up at some time! Of course, it’s all the fault of that crabby old spinster Miss Wilson from the Mundubbera Country Woman’s Knitting Association. I suspect she started a Pie Profile (Teapotscreamer) and complained to the higher powers about me). Anywho, I hope that this suffices as a reasonable explanation. Xx Obi1

It would appear that Annie is correct with her answer of 14 (fourteen). For, according to the Cap’n, (and I have no idea how he knows this as he is the least cultivated person I know) there are indeed 14 lines in a Shakespearean sonnet. Now, unless someone posted the correct answer before Annie (we will know shortly I guess) she will (totally begrudgingly I must add) be awarded 3 points. By the way, I can confirm from the posting sequence that Shells has been awarded 3 points for being the first to answer last nights question. X Obi1

You are also correct of course 👍, but as no other correct answers have appeared before Annie’s (and yours was after hers) she must be awarded the 3 points. At this stage we have Shells on 3 points and Annie on 3 points. However, don’t worry Questers, as there are still 12 points still up for grabs (and we all know Annie hasn’t got the stamina to go on to win!) Actually, now that I remember, she manage to make off with a bottle of Dom a while ago (or was that just a Dom?) 😂. Anyway, at this stage anyone can still win either one of the plonk prizes! Xx Obi1

Here is Question 6 of the Captain’s Quest: In transition metal chemistry, the rule of thumb for predicting the stability of metal complexes revolves around a certain number of electrons. Question: How many electrons? Just a note to all questers, you cannot begin to guess the hidden part of the quest just yet. That part of the quest will only become applicable once all the 6 initial questions have been asked and correctly answered. At that point the Cap’n will state the first part of the quest completed and open the second part. Obi1

All Questers ( current and potential), pay attention! As of Friday 14th, the scores are thus: Question 5 was won by Shells Question 3 was won by Annie Question 1 was won by Annie Question 6 was won by Annie Question 5 was won by Intheswing. That means even with the last question to go tonight (question 2) Annie is unbeatable with 9 points. She therefore has won the right to choose a “bottle of plonk” of her choice from Captain No Beard (and knowing Annie, that will probably be something outrageous! 😂). But! As you no doubt also know, once the final question has been asked and correctly answered, those six correct answers will give clever Questers the means to unlock the underlying hidden quest! If you are the first to solve the hidden quest, then the Cap’n will award you with a bottle of Dom Perignon. HOWEVER! In order to spice things up for the last question tonight, and given that there are quite a few people out there watching this thread from the sidelines, the Cap’n has decided that the 7th person (yes... the SEVENTH) to post the correct answer to tonight’s question will be awarded one nights accomodation, at the hotel of their choice, in any capital city (in Australia of course). That changes things a little bit eh? Now, it is assured that the Cap’n is a pirate of his word and will deliver as promised, so let’s see what happens tonight shall we? Obi1.

Here is the final question of Cap’n No Beards quest for 2019. Remember, Annie has the most points in the bag BUT there is still this one last question to go and THIS question has a special prize attached to it if you are the 7th correct answer to appear on the thread. The prize is a nights accomodation in the hotel of your choice in any Australian capital city! Once the Captain awards the points for this last question, you will have all 6 answers which will enable you to solve the hidden quest! The Captain will call for the answer to the hidden quest so you must not post your answer until he asks for them. The first person to reveal the hidden quest wins a bottle of Fom. So.... here is the last question (Question 2): Once upon a time, whilst swilling beer at a food festival in Stuttgart, Cap’n No Beard foolishly asked a buxom barmaid if she would like to hold his leberwurst! The barmaid replied in no uncertain terms with one word. What was that word? Obi1
