The K's are well known via most social media channels (amongst many others) and don't hide their lifestyle. They flaunt everything they've got in front of the world. Obviously there are individuals around that would love the opportunity of a "soft target" should that show up. KK comes visiting along with literally tens of millions in jewellery for a short stay. As I noted, who in their right mind does that to start of with ? Anybody with even an inkling of common sense wouldn't even dream of doing that. Initial theories (that I have heard so far) suggest it was an "inside job". The way it was conducted was of course designed to intimidate - how many thieves are going to rob someone by simply saying " would you please give me your jewellery, I just really like it ?" There is nothing "the flying fuck" wrong with me. I was commenting on the fact that no common sense was used on her part (as usual). She only had the one security guard around with her at that time, and he was at another venue looking after her sisters, so KK was completely by herself. If you are so stupid as to walk around in a city with such a high crime rate and put on full show what you've got, then yeah, you are asking for trouble. And that is quite different to walking around in 'provocative' clothing. Just goes to prove - all dollars, and no sense. And I did make comment that nobody deserves such treatment from the outset. But that still doesn't detract that common sense is still required. Tall

Quoting 'Summersolstice' Just no. That is all. I do not see that anyone has endorsed or condoned the criminals who perpetrated the Kardashian Heist. Given the risks could have been so easily mitigated, it is not so surprising to me there is limited sympathy for the victim (not no sympathy). People frequently withhold their sympathy for the victims of crime (or even the downtrodden more generally) when they perceive the victim contributed to their own situation/demise. You might be interested and surprised to learn that in the RAN, it used to be (and highly likely still is) the case (due to strong adherence to tradition) that in event of theft, both the perpetrator and the victim were punished equally. The reasoning/rationale being that had the victim not been careless/reckless with their possessions, the thief will not have been tempted to perpetrate the crime. The traditional thinking had been that mistrust amongst crew members utterly undermines the capacity to function as a cohesive and effective fighting force. Such a punishment regime was believed to eliminate all risks to discipline and morale. (No-one would risk punishment for tempting a thief in the first place. "The floggings will continue until morale improves!"). In practice, thefts were often not reported to authorities (except by 'raw-bones'). Instead scores tended to be settled by informal investigation and vigilante justice below decks. Keel haul 'em, eh? Aye! Arrrgh!

(clothes vs jewels) don't pussy out ;) IMO the problem is that you stated the position poorly initially, and are using phrases like "asking for trouble" - which people are deciding to be literal about, when I think it is safe to say you're using to really mean something more along the lines of "you should expect trouble due to high and/or increased chance of trouble occurring" - they're not asking for trouble, they're just not mitigating risk. People shouldn't do bad things, but they do - a prudent person takes precautions to limit their exposure to those bad things. It's always the fault of the person doing the bad action, but people should also be aware of risks and potential outcomes.

An interesting article on The Atlantic website for people interested in knowing more about the psychology behind why people's default reaction to bad things happening is often to blame the victim.

I agree it was poorly worded of Tall, if only he said she was asking for trouble most of this "outrage" would have been avoided. Sure in a perfect world you should be able to do what you want with no consequences but we don't live in a perfect world so pays to be a bit smart. Where is the outrage for the Budgie 9? They wore what they wanted too. Apparently you can do absolutely what ever you want and nobody can ever blame you according to LD. New school of thought I suppose - where every child wins a prize.

''I will say, I do see a place for providing advice about precautions and taking precautions...most of us do it. I just think there needs to be much more focus on perpetrators than there currently is, and getting rid of the 'it's their own fault' attitude and 'oh if only they'd done that, or that'. Like the article says to be completely safe we'd have to shut ourselves off from the world completely and even then bad things could still happen. Where do you draw the line.'' Unfortunately in many instances the focus automatically goes to the victim...and in addition to the inherent human psychology behind it discussed in that article I think the media has a lot to do with this trend. That experiment outlined in the article showed how just changing whether the victim was the subject or the object of the sentence changed how people viewed the situation. The media often focuses on victims - you see it all the time in cases of sexual assault and DV - and it influences where people focus their attention and who they perceive as the person 'responsible' for the incident/s.

I don't agree that Kim is stupid tho. They must have thought that the hotel was secure. She has been seriously wealthy for a long time and has protected herself to this point. Everyday of hers is planned and every media event as well. She has amassed a huge fortune and more power to her. I would have done the same. Same to the younger sisters who at 18 have purchased their first multi million dollar houses. Go girls!

Now that's an interesting concept, or is it just an propaganda tool to play the innocent victims card. For example after the 2001 9/11attack on the twin towers New Yorkers donated less funds to the IRA. The logic was that those who funded terrorism were by de facto terrorists themselves. Therefore in the balance of probability not all those who perished that day were "innocent victims ".

Her fame and fortune relates to her staying relevant. Her 'relevance' is simply of astute marketing of self on her part; zeroing in on a particular market segment who are spellbound by the fairytale/fantasy idea that an otherwise pretty unremarkable person has been able to amass a fortune via 'Reality TV', 'selfie photos', and a celebrity marriage. Certainly she is reported to have been able to shift lots of product (cosmetics, fashion etc). It is also the case that coverage of her (and her family) spares the commercial networks and others from the inconvenience of funding, and perhaps the embarrassment of dealing with the fallout of/from genuine journalism. My only interest in her story to date has been the coverage of the theft in Paris. As just a passing interest, I am curious to observe peoples' reactions to the matter, and am particularly curious to learn the final outcome of the police and insurance company actions. Normally, I'd change channels from whatever media source is covering anything to do with her whatsoever. It's not that I harbour any prejudice toward her perse. I just don't give a fig what she's doing with her life. I'm not part of her target market segment, so for all the hours of near inescapable media coverage she has had to date, virtually the only thing I find remarkable is the amount of free media coverage she is afforded for her product endorsement/sales efforts. Quoting 'Hank_E_Panky' In Aleppo referring back to my last post above, I must admit I do harbour some resentment toward the Kardashians (and others of her ilk) insofar as the inordinately large amount of time they occupy peoples' attention comes at the expense of genuinely newsworthy stories. Obviously, all of the conflicts that rage around the world do not spring out of nowhere. If people were to spare some more of their time and thought on the issues that fester in these various troublespots before things erupt in bloodshed... Whilst the lives of neither the Kardashians, nor the lives of (insert name of 'downtrodden' here) are easily relatable to many/most of us, it is much easier and more comfortable to dream of the lifestyles of the rich and famous rather than the trauma and hardship faced by the other crowd, huh? Whilst researching for a major assignment last night, I read an article concerning Organisational Change, Human Behaviour, and Workplace Performance in French company Thales in late 2009: Wyman-Clarke, Andria; O'Keeffe, Andrew, 2010, Organisational change? "No big deal!", Training & Development in Australia; Apr2010, Vol. 37 Issue 2, p016 The authors recount how the company's HR department attended workshop sessions at Taronga Zoo with a consultant to study the similarities between chimpanzees and humans to aid them in formulation of a strategy to help them successfully implement (and overcome staff objections to) a new performance system at Thales (with just two months to the end of the then current performance reporting period). If ever you think your boss, or your company's HR department are treating you like a monkey, there'd be a reason for that!!

Talk about cringe worthy and exploiting the sexes. Gross! meh, my only problem with these segments is that there are always plenty of articles criticising the franchises when they do something eyebrow raising with the girls (i.e. during a Bachelor season) such as the "race a tractor while wearing a bikini" in Chris Soules' season (Season 19), but there isn't when it comes to them taking every chance they could so far this season in Bachelorette AU to have the guys shirtless (or in Bachelorette Canada's last episode (S01E04) where Jasmine flat out just asks Fireman Mike to take off his shirt). (Even the lead videos are different, I've never seen a Bachelorette equivalent of the Bachelor's frequent slow-mo videos of the lead having a shower) Both Bachelorette seasons are riding well on the fact they've actually got leads this season who are likeable (Sam Frost was a disaster, Jojo was bleh - Georgia and Jasmine are a godsend for them). I don't mind the oil wrestling or bikini races, I just object to a media response that is unbalanced.

First, some background: I've mentioned here before, I am living on a rural property. I'm renting a small unit on a farm belonging to extended family (the grandmother of one set of my cousins. Their grandfather passed away after I had agreed to come down here, but just before I actually shifted down here). I've been here nearly two years. My cousins' grandmother is almost 80 years old and lives in the main house. My cousins have other aunts, uncles and cousins living around these parts, but they're all running their own farms, or working in jobs. They didn't want their matriarch on the property by herself given some health troubles she had had, and she holds steadfast to the idea she too will see her days out on the farm. The family didn't want any random tenants to live here. (Fair enough, I thought. Who could blame her?) So, the aunt, uncle, and cousins who relate me to this branch of the family tree all live in Melbourne. Many years ago, my aunt and uncle rehomed their Jack Russell dog here when they moved into an apartment and could no longer keep him with them. Some years later, their son rehomed his cat to the farm for the same reason. The old girl is quite religious, but is in no way an animal lover. I strongly perceive the pets here are an inconvenience and something of an irritation to her. (Given her near 80 year church indoctrination, I've wondered what ever happened to the concept of "all God's creatures, great and small", you know?). Anyhow, this time last year, the dog had to be put to 'sleep'. He was really very old (~18yrs), near completely blind, near completely deaf, his teeth were mostly rotten, and his coat was a bit mangy too. That said, he was a dear, faithful and affectionate old puppy. It saddened me terribly. He was seldom ever bathed, and his water and food bowls were not cleaned at all unless I did it during the last year of his life. His diet comprised cat food exclusively. (I wondered sometimes whether his little head ever harboured thoughts of humiliation, or insult to his dignity as a proud descendant of wolves - however distant!). His ultimate demise came when, just the day prior to taking a month long overseas holiday cruise (during which I looked after the animals), the old girl sprayed the front verandah pavers for weeds. She did not move the dog's food and water bowls, and I could see spray residue in very close proximity. The dog rapidly became extremely ill. When I reported this to the family, there was lots of 'umming' and 'ahhing' and phone calls back and forth between family members, until finally one of the matriarch's other local daughters and son-in-law came and took the dog to the Vet to have him put down. I stayed back and dug the little fellow's grave. (There is a pet cemetery on a hill here on the farm containing the remains of all the dogs they had owned over the last forty-odd years). Now, fast-forward to my current/ongoing dilemma: Three months ago, I noticed a sore on the cat's nose which didn't appear to be healing. I have repeatedly spoken to my cousin's grandmother (my landlady), my aunt, and my uncle. They have dithered and procrastinated the entire time. I've not spoken to my cousin directly. I don't have his phone number, and despite asking, they've not passed his number on. (I don't know why. It's odd. Last time I had seen him before moving here was over twenty years ago. I'd already done five years in the Navy, and he was still in primary school). The cat has been living here about seven or eight years, is highly independent, and highly elusive. It is a long-haired cat, and it frequently sports dreadlocks around it's throat and the sides of it's neck. The old girl leaves food out for the cat at the back of the main house, and this food does get eaten. I seldom run across the feathery remains of errant or unwary visitors to the property. The cat has grown quite friendly (even affectionate) with me now. I once cut her dreadlocks off. I got swatted with claws fully bared, then didn't see her again for months. I have won her back over though. This has taken patience over the whole period I've been here, though she still doesn't seem to go out of her way to visit me on this part of the property. Some months I'll see her down here once, and other months I'll see her three or four times. My landlady regularly complains the cat gets under her feet at the clothes line, and I know the cat has scratched her more than once. I think I can guess why. Sometimes I see the cat's neck has sections which have been shaved with clippers. So anyway, each time I have seen the cat over this last three month period, the wound one her nose has grown ever larger to a gaping, bleeding mess. I believe it is cancerous. The cat is in obvious pain. Any and every time she bumps her nose, she flinches; snapping her head right back away. I find it distressing to witness. In my view, neglect of this sort is simply cruel. Exasperated, I contacted a nearby Vet myself with a view to having the cat examined and a prognosis issued. The Vet has refused. The tell me they cannot treat the cat without the owner's permission. The family clearly is unwilling, and cannot be persuaded to take any action. I have assured the Vet that I will pay any charges myself, but they insist this is not their issue. Instead, they have directed me to report the matter to the RSPCA, which I have done today via email with an explanation (much more brief than this one), and a request that they phone me to discuss. I received a response via email from the RSPCA Inspectors' section this afternoon. They directed me to go back online to their website to reenter the contents of my email in one of their online forms. They then state they will address the matter without identifying me as having reported it to them... This is daft! It will be plainly obvious I am the source of the information, and that this will likely damage relations, and security of tenure for my accommodation. It astounds me that it can be so difficult to gain a satisfactory resolution to this matter. I thought it would be quite simple, and best to have the Vet or the RSPCA come visit to take a look at the cat when the old girl is away from the property on her weekly trip to see the grandkids. We could have obtained a prognosis and set an action plan without creating any difficulty or animosity. So much for that bloody idea! Frustration caused a release of steam from my ears this afternoon. I'm getting so bloody fed up with this state, it's not funny. The infrastructure here is f@cked, the bureaucracy here is f@cked, business prospects are f@cked, groceries and other items are expensive, and this part of the bloody joint has all the ambience of God's f@cking waiting room. Can't even go to the Pub and get pissed! Beers are expensive and the Publican of the one Pub in town is a complete f@cking bell-end! I don't want to spend a single dollar that might help to enrich the dickhead. F@ckin', f@ckin', f@ck, f@ck!! I think it's near time I made like a shepherd - get the flock outta here!!

That's a horrible situation to be in and disgusting of them to let an animal suffer. Would the cat be microchipped? If not you can drop the cat at that vet before opening time. They have a duty of care to treat it or euthanise the poor thing. If it isn't microchipped, then the cat won't be tracked back to them. To be fair to the cat, you would need to drop it off in a cat cage with some water. Which is an added expense if you have to purchase it. The main thing is that poor cat is given the treatment it deserves. Unfortunately it doesn't stop them from getting a new pet.

It is animal cruelty and it's sickening I've got a few things to cover off, then I reckon I'll be away. Next time I choose to switch coasts again, I'll be going the long way around. I was born here, left at two years of age, and have lived just about everywhere else since. Until two years ago, I've visited here only briefly at intervals. The way I feel just now, I reckon it'll be a good long while before I do so again. You know, with respect to animal cruelty, the story gets even worse. They run some Steers on the property here. My Dad recently told me that not long before I shifted here, they had one Steer that got it's head stuck in a steel gate. Unable to free itself, it started to go mad. I'm told that rather than cut it free, and/or seek the help of a Vet, or even shoot it to put it out of it's misery, my cousins' grandfather just left it stuck. After three days of struggle, it collapsed exhausted, and hanged/choked with it's head still stuck. The old boy then dragged it out with the tractor and buried it in a paddock down the back of the property. Every day I stay here, if I'm not busy or distracted, I die a little more inside.

That's a very good suggestion, thanks. I reckon I'll do just that. I have absolutely no idea whether the cat is, or would have been microchipped. My cousin may have registered it's details in Melbourne when it was a kitten. If that is so, I don't believe those details will have been updated when the cat was brought to the farm. My cousin has moved a number of times in the intervening years. In any event, I do think yours is the best option. Thanks again.

If it isn't microchipped, then the cat won't be tracked back to them. It would most likely be euthanised in a situation like that. People are constantly abandoning animals at vets (my boy is just one of them) and much as most vets would love to be able to treat them regardless of circumstance, the harsh fact is vet care is expensive and they just can't afford to provide free treatment to all that need it. If the cat was healthy they would probably send it to a shelter but unless the problem is something minor that can be fairly easily fixed I'd say they would put it down. Then again considering the circumstances it sounds like that may be better than it continuing to live with people who obviously don't give a crap and will just let it suffer. Again unfortunately, no vet will go to the residence without the owner's express permission to treat the animal, they'd be opening themselves up to all sorts of potential legal and civil action, and professional ramifications. This is why I decided I would make a terrible vet...I would just become too frustrated, upset and angry at dealing with assholes who mistreat and neglect animals. I just can't maintain my objectivity and keep my emotions from getting the better of me where animals are concerned.

If you've said you'd pay for the treatment, why not just go to a vet and say "my cat's finally turned up after I thought it'd run away and it's a mess, can you please fix it"? (instead of some complicated family history of who is an estranged second cousin of who and all that, I've never had them go through the chip and confirm that I was a registered owner or agent of the owner whenever I've taken the dog to the vet)

Animal cruelty and animal neglect make me feel physically ill. I really don't understand how people can just dump animals when they no longer suit their lifestyle, its just plain wrong. As SOTL says, just take it to the vet yourself. The owner doesn't give a shit anymore, he dumped it there 7-8 years ago and probably hasn't given it another thought. They don't want to know about, they don't want to deal with it, so someone else will have to. My concern is the cat is going to get an infection in that open wound pretty quickly and die alone and in alot of pain and it all can be prevented by just taking it to the vet right now.

That option because it sounded like where he is the vet he contacted is it. But if the vet doesn't know you or the owner, you could do as S suggested and just pretend it's your cat. Which would ensure the poor thing would receive immediate treatment relieving both you and it. I hope you make a decision quickly. Sometimes we have to tell some fibs for a very good reason. And this is one of those times. If you know the vet, I don't know where you go from here. As much as the RSPCA does some amazing work, the chances are the cat will die before they look into the matter.

I'm somewhat hamstrung in this locale and mode of transport. Transporting the cat myself is problematic. I'll need to get assistance and transport the cat by car. The nearest Vet is 15km away, but handles rural calls/farm animals. I had figured I could easily coordinate a Vet visit here on a day they're out servicing clients on other farms in the surrounding district. The next nearest Vets are 25km away or further. One of the other significant aspects which make things problematic, is that this is a very small town (which is something of a torment in itself), and that part of the family have been here since the 1950s and are very well known and respected all around the district. (Their animal husbandry is likely not well known. The grandparents had worked in other careers in the district before retirement. They then stocked the farm with sheep, and then later switched to cattle in a small-time capacity). I'm now committed to a program which I cannot now alter for the time being. Animosity here or even retaliatory eviction (which I cannot rule out) at present is a headache I can do without just now. There's an old saying that applies to small country towns: "If you want to get a message around town, you can telephone, telegram, or tell a local." People all seem to live in one another's hip pockets. I've just got to try to tolerate things for the time being. I think it is more than likely the cat will be euthanised. If the local vet paid a visit while the old girl was out, the whole process could take place humanely, and she (the landlady) would likely not care what happened. I genuinely believe she'd happily the idea the cat just wandered off to die somewhere, never to be seen again (happily chasing birds and mice for eternity in cat heaven)... I've just been looking at carriers on Gumtree. I'll buy one in decent condition that the Vet can continue to use or hire out to cover the cost of an injection, and I'll get one of my mates to give me and the cat a ride to another Vet clinic further up the highway.

So that's Samsung and iPhone that I'll never buy again. unsolicited updates? You need to OK the update, I've not moved to 10 on any of my devices. I think the signing window is still open to downgrade back to iOS 9.3.5 if you want, just google "iOS 9.3.5 downgrade" and it'll give you instructions on ho to download the ipsw for the old version and update it - it's as easy as doing the upgrade. Apparently it's been happening a lot. My son has an old iPhone 4 which has weathered this shit storm better than others. The user's consent was neither sought nor given.

when your foot snags the power cord and dumps a full tub of hot wax on the bathroom floor... small tiles, lots of grout, much fun cleaning :( And when you have Beyonce - Run The World stuck in your head for a few hours (thanks for that Soft - it was on SYTYCD )

S this's a tragic day... Beyoncé alone is bad enough but add the wax mishap and that's a form of torture. My waxing was done this morning as I laid back and enjoyed.

More annoying than the Joan Jett version of Let's Do It? 😉 I'm with Missb, my wax this morning sounds far more relaxing than yours 😂

😳 Bugger! So sorry that happened to you......could have been worse (Rihanna - Umbrella) And as far as the wax goes, Shells suggestion is great if you haven't gotten rid of all of it. I hope no parts of your hot bod were harmed in the waxgate incident.

I've used the brown paper for carpet/fabric, for the tiles I used eucalyptus oil. I have it in a spray bottle for after waxing, it cleans up any sticky wax left over.... or.. on the floor :P Don't worry Soft, no damage, just smooth enough to eat off ;)

Feeling like a low c@nt tonight ,cat had to go vets late cos she was really off ,fucken fur balls ,turns out with X-rays ,woth severe impaction ,I'm both intestines ,they can't operate cos it's a small clinic that isn't open late ,so we have to wait till tomorrow and hope she is still alive for them to operate on ,potential bill 2500. Which I said ok ,or option b ,go for the emergency clinic ,where the bill will be upwards of 10 grand ,to which I said no , Mrs b loves all her animals. And wears her heart on her sleeve and right now would shell out the 10 ,but me being mr asshole and not able to solve this for her without paying up with her or my money ,to fix ingrid ,I am smack focking bang in the dog house ,pfffffft bloody pets ,love them hate them , Please no hate on cats I do love our British blue ,ingrid ,but on a worst case scenario ,I'm or we aren't dropping ten thousand dollars tonight ,wish me luck if she does drop off , gunna need it - Posted from rhpmobile

Was wondering myself how long the topic may have lasted. Been a few who have called a possible early demise, but it appears that there will always be a need for a 'venting' topic to be available for everyone. And to that end, thanks to all who have made use of the topic so far. I hope that these pages will continue to be of use and expand for a good while yet. Tall

I hope that your poor cat hasn't managed to take up it's full quota of lives as yet. I've had a pretty full run of differing types of pets over the years, and it is quite disheartening when the animal seems to suddenly come up ill, with then seemingly unimaginable vet bills. Pets have this wonderful way of capturing your heart, and when incidents like this come along, it is hard to argue against the cost. Hope you two are also managing OK along with the situation. Tall

Really fucked off ,lost the first pet ,and we have many, including 2 other cats ,but she was the only one, I can say I actually really loved since my old fella Arnold dog left us 15 years ago , I know our vet did everything ,still doesn't help my mind ,we got a dead cat and a bill they cut in half but still added up to 1500 dollars and no ingrid ,sad sad sad .apparently we used up all our miracles this year ,and I wouldn't swap them for the world ,but still sucks ass big time , Mr b - Posted from rhpmobile
